Loanees – Merida & P.Botelho Play Penultimate Games

Fran Merida – Real Sociedad 2-3 Deportivo Alaves

Fran Merida had urged his Sociedad side, to collect maximum points from their remaining fixtures, and get promotion back to La Liga. It had been so far so good with two games left.

Deportivo Alaves were the opposition this afternoon, with another win needed to keep the pressure at the top of the table. Real had the perfect start as Díaz de Cerio slotted them into an first minute lead, before having further chances to double the advantage. However they took 1-0 into the half time interval.

Just 6 minutes after the restart Alaves had drawn level with a goal from Adrian. Back came Sociedad with free scoring Andre Delibasic putting them back into the lead on 69 minutes. With just minutes remaining it seemed Merida and his team would hold on, only for Jairo to bag the equaliser bang on the 90 minute mark.
The scoring was not over yet, as deep into stoppage time Moral stuck home for Alaves to gather all three points.

A hugely disappointing result for Real Sociedad who end their season against Cordoba next week. They now need a win and for other results to go their way to achieve promotion.

Pedro Botelho – UD Salamanca 3-1 Celta de Vigo

Pedro Botelho collected 27 votes in Salamanca’s player of the year awards, and although he has missed most of the campaign it seems the young Brazilian has already made an impression.

After missing out last week with a suspected virus, he returned to the UD squad for this afternoons clash with Celta de Vigo. Pedro started the fixture, and finally looked fit and ready to contribute, so much infact he played a part in the opening goal.

He started a passing move which saw Buena toe poke the ball through for Danobeitia to slot home. Totti was also on target against former Gunner Quincy’s side, before Pelegrin notched number three.

Pelegrin’s afternoon was spoilt as his put through his own net with 10 minutes left, but Celta rarely threatened.

So this means that Pedro won’t be coming back to Arsenal.

Hmm. That also means we need to buy a defender, especially a centreback as we still have Hoyte and Gallas who can cover that if Traore goes out on loan to Portsmouth (I think Youngguns provided the news earlier).

Spike, what makes you say that? Arsene has spoken very highly of him and I believe even said he would be back and be part of the first team squad a few weeks ago.

No way is Merida starting the season. He’ll have no summer break at all.

Part of the first team squad does not mean starting the season. He’ll probably play CC and FAC games along with some of the other youngsters coming into the first team squad this season.

Merida is rubbish – hope he’s nowhere near the first team next season.

Guerrero of Poland looked good today…

    Like a ‘mini cesc’?

You obviously don’t think much of Cesc then, to compare him to a mediocre midfielder in spain’s second division.

Merida is WAY overhyped, because morons like his youtube clips. He’s average, at best.

    Oh yes.

Maybe, if we’re really lucky, he’ll be as good as, for example, Johann Djourou.

Merida’s cack, and Wenger won’t be stupid enough to play him any time soon.

I agree with Anon! He’s just turned 18 and he’s nowhere near as good as Kaka. I say we sell him immediately and buy Robinho, Ibrahimovich and Kerlon (have I missed any other over-hyped players that internet morons suggest?). What a mug.
Just be thankful that muppets like Anon aren’t in charge of the team or we’d be in a real mess.

Excellent coverage, Jamie. Does Merida look like he’ll be getting the odd chance at the first team in the last dregs of next season?

The tide is turning in the war between blog and ‘insert your own blog you wish to support here’. Fun times, my side.

Anon, Merida isnt crap, hes one of spain U19s most important players and he was an important part of the U17 side aswell, a side that WON the euro U17 championships.

Also, no, most of us dont like him cuz of the youtube clips of him as a 15 yr old at Barca, we like him cuz we’ve seen what he can do for the reserves, you do know we have a reserve side that play matches that you can watch to see how the young players are doing dont you?

Merida WILL be coming back cuz we just gave him a 5 year contract, expect to see him in the first team next season (probably only Carling Cup games but you never know…)

Botelho wont, cuz he wont have a European passport yet, whether he ever will depends on how he does next season and whether Wenger thinks hes the right kind of player. Ive never seen him play yet so i wont pass judgment.

Quincy plays for Celta? I thought he was with some Russian outfit. Speaking of Quincy, that was one of the strangest transfers in recent memory. He was off so quickly, anyone know the reason why?

It was a character issue Mondo, rumoured to be drugs related. Whatever the character issue was, whenever we see something we don’t like generally the player involved is shipped off pretty sharpish. For example a few years ago now (2000 if memory serves) Jay Boothroyd threw his shirt at the dugout after being substituted in a youth cup game (the final I think in fact), the manager said after the game that it was an insult to the club and he would never play for us again because of it, he was put on the transfer list that night.

The coach of the youth team when Bothroyd threw his shirt was a certain Mr Don Howe no less.
