Gym Madness Sees Szczęsny Break Both Arms

Arsenal Reserves goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny will miss the next three months of action after an uncharacteristic moment of madness from the Polish Under 21 International left him with two broken arms.

The incident took place on Monday morning after training, as Wojciech made use of the gym facilities at London Colney. However, he failed to correctly prepare for the session, and began lifting weights which were clearly above that of the level he could handle. This, combined with poor footwear, created an instant danger.

He reportedly slipped and the huge weights came crashing down – fracturing both radii. The usually mature and confident stopper had surgery later that day to correct the problem, but will spend the next three months recovering. The bizarre news comes as a real blow to Szczęsny, who had been tipped to become Poland’s number one at Under 21 level, combined with his development at Reserves level.

Wojciech penned a new three-year contract two months ago, and confirmed at the time he was expecting to be loaned out during the January transfer window. The injuries now put back this plan, surely frustrating for both player and club, especially due to the manner of the fractures.

Young Guns wishes the 18-year-old a speedy recovery.

He still has more chance of catching crosses than Gomes.

i still don’t get it – how do you break both arms lifting weights – even if you do slip? it’s like Dave Beasant breaking his foot on a mayonnaise jar…

You slip, you lose your balance, and the weight falls backwards, bending your arm back.. and snap.

Well he won’t be doing that again.

I’m starting to wonder though if Emirates Stadium has been built on an old Indian burial ground.
