Arsenal representatives were among a strong crowd in Croatia last night to make checks on the progress of Romelu Lukaku in RSC Anderlecht’s Europa League clash with Dinamo Zagreb.

Chief Scout Steve Rowley has already sent Tony Adams to Belgium to check on the giant front-man and after being impressed, the club have gone for a second look on a much bigger stage for Lukaku, the Europa League. Zagreb claimed the points thanks to Miroslav Slepička’s winner but they had goalkeeper Tomislav Butina to thank for keeping 16-year-old Lukaku at bay.

Romelu exchanged passes with Mbark Boussoufa to open up the Dinamo defence on the half hour mark but Butina came rushing out of his goal and managed to slide tackle the powerful striker. 15 minutes later he had more work to do as the same man cut inside and fizzed a left footed drive right at him, another solid block did the job.

The burly starlet has 8 goals from 13 league appearances for Anderlecht but it’s at youth level where he’s really stood out. 121 goals in 88 fixtures for the B team and 1 in 1 game for Belgium’s Under 21’s make him a real prospect for the future. Real Madrid and Chelsea have shown tentative interest while the Gunners are set to continue their scouting before making a decision.

The player’s family have previously issued a firm ‘hands off’ warning, stating Romelu will stay with Anderlecht until he is at least 18, but whether that stance continues it is unknown. In the meantime, check out Lukaku’s talents in this compilation video.

J, is there any truth on the Zezinho rumours? Great article again, keep up the excellent work

Thanks for the updates again J ! What are views on the potential transfers of Zezinho and Wellington ? And do you have an insight on the young players heading out for loan after the CC exit ?

  3. comment by J.Sanderson

The Zezinho thing, as reported on this site, he’s had a trial with us. He’s said he will agree a move after the weekend but he didn’t really say it was coming from us. I think we’ll have to wait and see with that.

Certainly there will be several starlets going out on loan, probably JET, Eastmond etc.

J would you say Chelsea are in the front of the queue for this player or do we have a good chance of getting him?

    Thanks

    THanks J.

I am only wondering (not to say fearfull) if he would come to us if he’s an avid fan of Drogba.

You know Chelsea gonna do long term business ahead of their transfer ban case. And they will not play nice.

My hope is his father who seems to keep the reality in check and want the best education for his son. And education just happen to be our forte.

J, is Tony Adams scouting Lukaku again? Or is it Steve Rowley himself? If it is Steve Rowley, I would say we are close to signing him.

“I have a poster in my bedroom and I love Drogba and Anelka, but I have no problems. If I can continue to grow with Anderlecht, then at a later time, maybe I’ll go to Chelsea,” said Lukaku.

    5 Million pounds?
That is much money for a 17-years old unknown Brazilian, I hope he is worthy.
I don’t think we need a second view on Lukaku, the stats say anything, but he have to prove all this at the highest level.

Buy them both. If we buy lukaku he’ll be wanting to play every week when he comes so i’d say buy him and loan him for a season cant imagine he’d be too happy going from anderlechts to arsenal reserves.

Buy zezinho aswell, i say, fuck it.

To put this in perspective, Milan paid 18m for Pato.

Theo was a Liverpool fan. Cesc a Barca fan. Hell, of all the footballers in the world, how many actually play for the club they support? I really don’t see this as a thing. If he gets an offer to go to a team that made the Champions League semi final last season that has manager with a proven track record of making world class players, you really think he is going to say “oh but i like anelka… that player you made famous arsene… so i must politely decline”?

Have you not just described Chelsea and Ancelotti? Since most commenters here appear to have only been born this century I’ll remind you he had a career before Milan, when amongst others he gave a debut to a certain Buffon and brought along a certain Cannavaro.

  22. comment by TJ DA GOON

P – No he didn’t because Ancelotti didn’t even get into the CL with one of the top three clubs in Europe (going by history) with some great players in it, let alone the semi’s. Touche on your other points though.

  23. comment by TJ DA GOON

Haha….I just had another look and i see my mistake. I hold my hands up as i jumped the gun there (what? it’s late). Good comment P. Ignore my previous one. :)

wow….this boy is a beat – drogba’s younger brother ;) he’d be a hell of an addition to our side – more explosive than Bendtner(?)

J – what happened with the young Dutch striker who we were after in the summer – Luc Costaignes (sp?)

  25. comment by Samuel

P- It does describe them… only if they put an offer in.
