Head of Youth Development officers Liam Brady and David Court have decided who – of the current crop of Under 16′s – will have the chance to go on and potentially be future Arsenal stars.
The annual decision is taken in January to give the unlucky few the opportunity to find new employment before the season comes to a close and for those who are now added the payroll a chance to further imbed their names in the coaching staff’s thoughts ahead of the next campaign. The brochure they will read in July opens with the follow statement:
“This is the finest opportunity you are ever going to have to become an elite player and acquire some educational qualifications as you train. The rewards are enormous but you have to earn them. Give 100 per cent to everything you do and you will get there in the end”
Tought decisions needed to be made yesterday evening and there were, of course, casualties as players who have grown up together went head-to-head in their bid to become professional footballers. Yet it shows the quality of the Academy that three of the prospects who didn’t make the cut are all first-choice internationals. Goalkeepers Yilmaz Aksoy and Luke Chambers – who turn out for Turkey and Wales respectively – were joined by Northern Ireland centre back Joe Jones on the aforementioned casualty list. Fellow defenders Alie Sesay and Mike Hassini also missed out. Injury prone Under 15 captain Hassini has already moved on, penning a deal with Southend.
So to those who did make it. Stopper Reice Charles-Cook fought off competition to be the only glovesman signing on, while Republic of Ireland international Steven Smith plus full backs Ben Glasgow and James Campbell were also given the nod. Midfielders Josh Rees, Callum Webb and Samir Bihmoutine were joined by Jeffrey Monakana and Nigel Neita on the list.
The complete list of scholars including new signings Martin Angha and Jamie Edge will be announced at the end of the season.

J, please explain. Why Chambers, why Aksoy? Why Jones? I thought all were doing great, especially Chambers.
I thought Yilmasz Aksoy was highly rated, wanted by Chelsea at one point of time! What has happened to him?

i heard very good things about Samir Bihmoutine, they say by hard work in training he canbe something in the future.
Maybe cause we have too many young goalkeepers in the youth teams, though I don’t know why Charles-Cook is preferred over the two of them.
Didn’t Arsenal beat off a few other Premiership teams to sign Chambers last year? Seems strange to get rid of him already.

What happens to the cats who didn’t make the grade. Do they get another shot at making a the big squad or do they got to another team? Can they work their way up?

They can join any other club who show interest in them. Some will go to the youth teams of other clubs, for some (maybe not the ones mentioned, but in general) it will be the end of their footballing career and they will seek education/employment somewhere else.
Alban Bunjaku, Zak Fagan, Luke Ifil are all too young to sign scholarships and as far as I know we’ve not signed Veljko Batrovic.
It’s what happens sometimes, we didn’t pay anything for Chambers and he filled a gap at the time but obviously didn’t make the required impression that Charles-Cook has.
Maybe we got rid of the two ‘keepers because we’re getting Martinez in the summer?

Hassini has been injury prone, he keeps getting knocks and it’s best he moved on. Sometimes for an injured player to break the cycle it’s best and go to another club.
No word on Batrovic yet.

I think JET is actually not that far from playing against Stoke. We only have 2 midfielders left (Cesc and Denilson) although Rosicky could be moved there. That means Eastmond will certainly play, if not in DM than RB which would leave a spot open in midfield for Coquelin to grasp. Wilshere is back and will most certainly start but Merida still seems to be injured (what a shame). Wenger will be looking to rest as many as he can. All of the back 5 will be rested (Clichy to play at most). We have to play Cesc and Denilson because we don’t have other options. And I’m very unsure about Rosicky, Arshavin and Eduardo. They need a rest before the Fantastic 4 match-sequence and Vela and Walcott are willing to fill that space up. So I could see something like this:

That’s a VERY young team but we still have a more experienced spine with Cesc, Denilson, Sol, Silvestre, Clichy and Fabiansky. Vela and Walcott are full internationals as well. If Sol is not match fit than Bartley will surely get a chance, Arsene will make sure Gallas and Tommy get their rest.
Id hate to se Cesc play! The bare tought of him getting injured before the the coming games hunts me. Cup games is always extra physical aswell. My lineup is as follows:

i agree wid simons team but for some reason i think well play bartley in rb and eastmond in dm and JET on the bench. i dont think arsene wants to play JET because u no u cant play for more than two teams in a season(blackpool and arsenal if he cums on) and he wants to loan him out again

alban bunjaku has signed a scholer he is not to young he is an u16 one of the youngest but still u16 he is highly rated, amazing technically strong and a very intelligent he has been at arsenal sinc he was 7 he is kosovan but born in england. He is loyal to the gunners so much so that he has turned down offers from top london clubs and one north west club to stay with the gunners look at the loyalty of this so called arsenal website they have not even put he’s name down in the list of boys who got a scholer even though he was one of the first to be offerd it and neither has the jeorge bird website but instead has wrote down false information saying he is weak and fragile do u think arsenal give scholers to weak fragile players? the boy is 6’1 and very strong. My point is these websites are misleading and 70% false from what i have read and jeffrey monakana is not recovering from a dislocated shoulder that was 1yr ago he is fine now another false statment from a false website.
i remember charlie mann last year goalkepper now playing at crystal palace, samir carruthers playing for aston villa , jason banton for blackburn, keanu marsh-brown for fulham etc…….so even if u failed at arsenal u will make it somewhere else…if u are good enough of course….so i will not be surprise if they guys who ahev bee cut this year, aksoyl,chambers,joe jones,sesay and hassini become pro someday
