Loanees – Wilshere Unused Again, Szczęsny Stars

Welcome to this weekends Loanees Watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium. You can read all the latest reports below.

In The Premier League, Jack Wilshere was once more an unused substitute for Bolton Wanderers as they hosted Fulham. The England Under 21 international is yet to make his debut for the Trotters after joining on loan until the end of the season. Loanee Rating – 0.

In the Championship, Kerrea Gilbert took on Jay Simpson as Peterborough United hosted Queens Park Rangers. Gilbert was benched after the return to fitness of Chris Whelpdale while the last minute signings of Marcus Bent and Tamas Priskin meant Simpson’s run of starts ended. Jay replaced Priskin with 25 minutes left as QPR finished with 9 men while Gilbert was an unused substitute. Loanee Rating – 4.

Henri Lansbury played the full game for Watford playing behind the lone striker in a 1-0 defeat to Barnsley. Henri whipped a free kick just wide in the first-half but Barnsley controlled the game and took all three points. Loanee Rating – 6.

In League One, Wojciech Szczesny kept another clean sheet for Brentford as they smashed Gillingham. The Polish stopper had two saves to make but the Bees were comfortably on top and cruised to victory. Loanee Rating – 7.

Gavin Hoyte and Mark Randall were both unused substitutes.

Wenger let Wilshere leave to Bolton for two reasons:

    1) Coyle will try and make him play good football
    2) To get used to the physicality of the Premier league. Bolton, being the ideal place to learn this.

Staying at Arsenal would do him no good, he’ll end up like Theo Walcott, so it was best for him to have a 6 month loan.

Henri lansbury from what i have been told by watford fans is that hes doing alot of the dirty work in midfield which is great cause i fetl he lacked that. Hes got great flair, creativity maybe needs to imporve his defence side which is why playin in central midfield will improve

I thought wenger sends wilshere out there because coyle was the only one who could promise wilshere first team football. lets hope he keeps to his promise, there’s 13 games left. And szczesny… surely is already better than almunia, fabianski and manone combined. He has been getting rave reviews in most games he has played in.

which keeper in current arsenal squad is proven premier keeper? none! based on opta stats, almunia’s save/sog ratio is 4th from bottom in all premier keepers, and has dropped or failed to reach more crosses he has attempted to claim than any other ‘keeper this season. fabianski, even worse than almunia when given a chance. mannone is decent, he’s given pretty poor performance at barnsley on loan. the problem isn’t whether szczesny is premier quality, but whether he’s better than the other 3 keepers we have.

O-dog- Schezny should not come back next season to be our number 2. I dont think we should even have a young keeper as our number 2. In the keeper position, you dont develope if you arent playing week in and week out. That is why most teams generally have a old keeper as back up and loan out the young keepers. And to the guy that suggested Sorenson..lol. That might be one of the funniest comments I have read on here. He is about to lose his place to Begovic. Goals against isnt all about the keeper. Defenders and tactics play a massive part in that.

well said cc. He is our best keeper now, sad but true that our best keeper is 19. On the other hand, he is already a full international and I don’t think Parma or Real Madrid fans were sad to have 19 year olds in their goal in Buffon and Casillas. I think Szczesny will be our No. 1 from this August, it just has to be. Either that or he buys a new keeper. It doesn’t matter how good Vermalean, Song and Sagna are if we have a keeper who isn’t good enough for relegation battlers.

I truly believe that Walcot has hurt Wilsheres progress. I feel that Wenger feels like he brought to much pressure on Walcott at such a young age by playing him as much as he did and he doesnt want to do the same with Wilshere. The thing to me is that Walcott wasnt ready because he is a much rawer talent. I truly believe that Jack Wilshere was ready to play this year, if he would have been given a run out. You see the kids talent and when he played , he wasnt just good for a 17 year old, he was one of the best players on the pitch. Even tho it was preseason, if you saw him verse Rangers, you would know what I am talking about. Not playing him to me stunted his growth and hurt his progress.

shane, it’s all about the money AW paid for. had he paid 10M for wilshere, wilshere would have got as many chances as walcott. and had he given the chance as walcott got, he would be many times better a player than walcott.

Shane, I dont think wilshere is as ready as appeared. A lot of the youngsters look better in the CC than in the PL.
I dont think walcott was at all ready to play when wenger bought him, mind. The players who have been hurt most are eboue and vela. Eboue cant keep his place in the side even when he does play well, and vela even last year has much more potential and probably at a similar level of development already despite playing fewer games.
Merida is another who has been held back by theo. I dont know to be fair if Id call him better*, but hes hardly a lot worse than walcott. Certainly deserving of more chances.

    Some silly comments about Wilshere/Wenger.

Wenger has known how special this kid is for a long time and has never been so strict about a loan deal. It’s a bit of a gut punch that he’s gone to Bolton but this is Coyle’s Bolton not the Fat Walrus’. Coyle has done a lot of pr for this deal and spoke at length to Wenger about it.

He has been an unused sub in both games so far but this was never about him playing immediately – it was about him getting 10-12 good 60 minute+ run outs in the Premier league. The only time to judge the loan is at the end of the season and let’s be honest here – Coyle wants it to work because after being trusted with Jack he knows if it works he could be taking our kids on loan for the rest of his career.

Jack is a true jewel (and I speak as someone who has seen every bunch of kids since the Irish Brady led group were coming through). Wenger is polishing the jewel.

I’m not too worried about Wilshere. If Coyle plays him in the middle of the park, then it is probably wise to gradually integrate him into the side, rather than just throwing him in there. I’m rally hoping that this is the case. Weiss plays on the wing, so I’m hoping that instead of him and Jack being in direct competition with each other, the reason for Jack not playing yet is that he is going to play in the middle. If this isn’t the case, then i might be a little more worried. I haven’t really seen any of Weiss other than 1 half of football. He can’t be better than Wilshere can he?? This being if Wilshere and him are both fighting it out for a position on the wing, that is.

Davi…I wasnt saying Walcott has a direct impact on ilsheres plaing or anything like that. I am saying that because of Walcotts situation where Wenger chose to have him in the spot light at a young age and it hasnt realy worked out like he thought, I think Wenger did not want to make the same mistake again. Personally, I dont think Walcott has performed up to standard because he is such a raw talent. Give Walcott 3 years to turn that raw ability into consistent quality. Wilshere on the other hand is a much more complete talent when it comes to his skill set.

Wilshere is not ready to play for Arsenal. He is in the phase where he is not yet physically able to withstand the rigour of a defender but still try the fancy flick because they work at U18 level. Remember how useless and out of his depth he was against West Ham, and it was West Ham not a top half premiership club.
That game was a kick up the arse by reality. He needs to learn his craft and realise that despite his talent graft and levelheadness are mandatory to be successful.

The independent is reporting that we faile with a last minute bid for Sorenson. Clearly Almunia days at Arsenal are numbered. I believe that the younger polish goalkeepr is going to be our number one pretty soon.
Mannone is so deficient technically, it is unbelievable. He is a good shotstopper, but the rest is poor. He never dominate his area, is often rooten to his line.
Fabiansky has not progressed as was expected. Clearly he is still suffer from the occasional rush of blood. I wonder if he regret signing for us. At his club he was guaranteed to play and in doing so was progressing. At Arsenal he play only meaningless game in unimportant club cup competition. Also he may lose his position to his younger compatriot who is actually playing at Brentford.

Speaking about age, I have another example of well known GK who is good enough to earn the No. 1 spot as a youngster: Victor Valdes. The 1st season Valdes plays as Barca’s 1st choice GK, he was only 21 yo. Next April Szczesny will be 20 yo, if he is that good, I think he is old enough to be our 1st choice GK next season dont u think?

We all know a bunch dumb comments about the defense is weak, Arsene Should be fired …blah blah blah. There are only 2 issues and they are the same every time we play a big team. We need a world class dominent Striker and a top class keeper. You can be the best team in the world but with out these 2 you will not win. We need another striker like Henry who can make something out of nothing. people will get on here talking about how the defence is to weak but has anyone realized that Drogba might just be good? No one talked about how bad a defence was when Thierry Henry use to score those type of goals. They just talked about how good henry was. Look at Cech vs Almunia. If we had switched keepers, that would have probaly been us that won. Almunia literally ducked out of the way on the Drogba shot.

Shane, we have a lot of issues not just two as you say. In the game against Chelsea we had Clichy, Denilson and Almunia below-par. Against Manure we had Vermaelen, Gallas and Arshavin IMO. If we buy, let’s say Buffon and Villa, and we get Fabregas or Song injured, we would still have the same problems. Not mentioning Clichy’s form. We need good squad players, not poor ones like those mentioned. We don’t need match winners, players who can turnaround a result, but we need someone who can hold our lines.

So, I think we should sell Traore, Almunia, Fabianski, Denilson, Gallas (to leave this summer cause he’s past his best), and then buy a LB, a DMC and a striker.

I FINALY SAW SOME ANGER FROM THESE GUYS!!! FINALLY. I know we didn’t win, but at least we matched them tackle for tackle. Almunia really did duck Drogba’s second goal like Shane said!! I mean I wasn’t laughing then, but I am now! I mean what is there to do?? The only thing that really bothers me is that we started with Arshavin as a striker AGAIN. The only reasonable explanation I can come up with to explain that is, bendtner must still not be fully fit. I mean Arshavin`s been crying all week that he doesn`t want to play in that position. So unless Wenger takes a perverse liking to his displeasure, the only explanation must be that Bendtner is still a bit injured. If we hold onto 3rd or 4th, then I can actually see Wenger maybe signing one or two players that are relatively established. We really need to hold onto 3rd, so we gotta beat Liverpool on Wednesday. We gotta.

sorry guys, sorry for me too bc im one of those guys, arsenal fans. We will see those things until Arsenal pay all debts, It’s an strategy to play in CHL and to pay debts. To play with unknown players instaed of buying them with high price. We saw this almost 5 years in a row. In summer I think that Wenger will buy a repleacemnet for Fabregas and eventually will sign a goalkeeper. From last games I see that even Clichy can be sold, but for his position we have players. Wenger will also sign for free Chamakh, in june. So, in this way I see Arsenal playing, only if Kroenke will buy all shares and become a owner.

It is a bit funny how we over react now days and how we are always so negative, including me, but i have changed my outlook. We complain over a stint with no titles. People forget history sometime. Teams have patches where the either dont play aswell or they have different ambitions at the time. Heck the year Barcelona signed Ronaldinho, they werent even in the champions league. Now they sit atop of the world. Patients is needed.
