Arsenal striker Wellington Silva will play out his time with parent club Fluminense in the first-team after coach Alexi Stival announced he will be a regular in the side following the sale of prize asset Maicon. Silva currently has two appearances for side for Flu for whom he has one goal and two assists. His latest at the weekend, where he set up the winner against Botafogo.
Wellington is quickly becoming the golden boy of Brazilian football and following his match winning performance at the weekend, a regular slot on the left wing is set to see the 17-year-old given the chance of a life time in the frenetic Serie ‘A’. Naturally the leap from youth team to the big time is a large, yet Stival has complete trust in the prospect.
“Wellington is still a boy. Just two years ago he did not know if he would ever play for Fluminense, but now he knows the responsibilities asked of him. Maybe sometimes he trys to do too many tricks but he is only 17-years-old. He will play against Confiança with my complete trust and he has my full support.”
The sale of Maicon has opened up a place in the team but the differences in the players are notable. The Fluminense coach was eager to put to bed any direct comparisons when quizzed yesterday:
“Maicon is more of a sprinter type. He collects the ball and speeds up the wings. Wellington is more direct. He’s always looking to score goals. Wellington gives us much more options on the wing. It’s another way of doing things, something very different from Maicon.”
The player himself remains dedicated to the Flu cause and has previously refused to talk about his impending switch to Arsenal. However, he broke his silence over the weekend only to stick to his policy and deflect attention in favour of his appreciation for everything he’s learnt so far.
“I don’t like to talk too much about Arsenal, I’m at Fluminense and I love this club. I know it’s many players’ dream to play in Europe and I’m no different but I owe Fluminense a lot and I’ll always remember this club.”
Silva’s first fixture comes this weekend where he will line up against Confiança in the Rio Cup.

Woah. That’ll speed up his learning. Sorry to be ignorant on this, as I’m sure you’ve answered this many times before, Jay, but will he be coming straight to us next season? or will he, like Carlos, spend a (couple of) seasons in Spain?
My guess it will depend on how good he is, there is a good chance that he will slot straight into the first team squad. Depending on if we sign Chamakh of course.
But Wellington is 100 % a done deal for Arsenal right?
Yes done deal. We own 65% of his rights until he turns 18 then the rest gets signs over and he comes straight to us.

But wow a 17 year old playing in Brazil Serie A is no small feet and considering he’s going to play week in and week out he will gain a huge amount of experience and should slot straight into the first team since he will already have an years experience when he comes here.
I would watch his performances against Flamengo and Santos since they are team to beat in Brazil (I think)
Everytime we hear something about this kid he has just done something extra ordinary and I will love to see him next season in Carling cup or the FA cup if we don’t get knocked out before that.
On a final not BRAVO ARSENE WENGER FOR SPLASHING THE MONEY ON A REAL GEM BRAVO !!!!!!!!!

Playing every week will mean he will already have the experience needed to play in the first team and he wont have to be send to a championship or EPL side on loan

RIO DE JANEIRO – Wellington Silva laid on the winning goal for Fluminense in a 2-1 victory over Botafogo in the Carioca championship on Sunday, the forward displaying the form that led to his transfer to the English Premier League.
The 17-year-old, who agreed to join Arsenal for a reported free of 10 million reais in December, came on as a late substitute and set up Mariano for the winning goal with a brilliant run in the 83rd minute.
The forward, making his fifth first team appearance for Fluminense, will join Arsenal when he turns 18 in January 2011.

Wellington plays with a lot of flair and trickery…” but Denilson is one of those, efficient, heart-beat of the team, sort of players who just get on with doing a job, kind of below the radar. To me, he has made an impact. Wellington will too, though. I agree.
yes Wellington uses tricks but also runs a lot so his workrate for such a young age is impressive. It was a pure masterstroke to get him for just 3,5 mill., In 1-2 more years he would have cost 10-15 mill but Fluminense had to sell their assets thats why we got him that cheap!!!

Denilson does his job perfectly which is what Diaby did last night. He suppose to help out Song in Defense and provide help to Fabregas or Nasri in Attack.

I never really could see the point why arsenal bought Denilson but if you see Brazil vs ireland game and you watch Gilberto Silva role in that team then you will see that its exactly what Wenger wants Denilson to do and if Denilson can do than our midfield will be

They guy I am talking about play for a small club and I have seen him play for Brazil under-17 he was playing as a CB then he got moved to the LB in the second half and he was easily the best defender on the pitch.
This was the match in which Zezinho scored and Wellington provided the assist.

If you look at his picture posted in wiki he has the same kind of physique as Wilshere but if he plays in the EPL he will get injured but that shouldn’t hinder his progress.
And he is one of those who will attract a lot of fouls but this boy has a lot of grit in him and he wont shy away from them

I dont have any footage him but he’s probably one who got shoved off the ball in training he must have been 15 when that video was shot.
I am sure we will see a lot more of him in the next under-17 tournament and then clubs will really start to scramble for his signature.

yeah he is :-)!!!! He is so mature in his play. Scored 51 goals in 19 youth matches. At his trial he scored in 2. half “4″ goals!!!! Manu, RM, Chelski, Barca everyone wanted him!!! I think he can be like Ronaldo ( brazil ones ) for years to come. But if he is a winger also good.
No one of us really know about Wellington a whole lot all we have seen is, him playing a few matches for Brazil Under-17 and a few highlights of him playing for Fluminense but the hype surrounding is justifiable. When you look at these video you really have to think that this kid has everything you can ever need a winger
He has pace, fantastic dribbling skills, a great cross, trickery but then you see other side of him in which he has an eye for goal that resembles that of cristiano ronaldo I mean his composure in the box make me think of cristanio every time I see him score.
So imagine a player of messi’s quality in dribbling and Ronaldo’s quality in goal scoring ability and you will understand all the hype.
A good example of his talent is that he played what 45 minutes for our youth team and scored what 4 goals.
He’s the only kid in fluminense history to score 7 goals for their youth team after coming on as a half time sub
and in his debut for Fluminense first team he scores a goal and sets up another.
He was named in the under-17 team of the tournament even though he was a year younger than everyone else.
Even writing these thing is making me excited I can wait to see him in January in an Arsenal shirt.

can be true but I think they have him for a year now and this should be plenty of time to find a replacement but maybe keeping him in Brazil till June 2011 wont be bad idea

Wellington will stay with Fluminese till January and maybe until June if Wenger allows him too or he can bring him to England and then send him on loan to a championship side or an EPL side.

I am not from Brazil but yeah I do think CIty have the first choice if they want to buy players like Neymar .
Zezinho is also very talent but he plays in the AM position and I think we have that position covered with our own world class talent. My favourite youth players Ozzie is more talented than Zezinho and they’re both the same age. So I dont mind missing out on him
And they’re was the same kind of buzz with Ronaldo and Messi when people first saw them the incredible thing is that he looks more talented than both of them (my opinion)

Wellington Silva is incredibly talented but he still has to work hard to achieve greatness but he made the right choice by coming to arsenal because Wenger will not stop until he reaches his potential and he is one manager who doesn’t give up on players even if the fans or the player himself does. Look at the transformation or Eboue, Diaby and Even Song everybody wanted them to be sold and now their are Fan Favourites.
