Arsenal Process Work Permit Application For Botelho

Arsenal will attempt to win a work permit for Pedro Botelho in the coming weeks, in a bid to finally bring the versatile Brazilian to North London. The 20-year-old has spent the last three seasons plying his trade in Spain, to earn the criteria needed for a E.U citizenship visa.

Botelho has just completed a season-long-loan with Celta Vigo in the Spanish Segunda, where he made 27 appearances, scoring once. He was also instrumental in the Celta side which reached the quarter-finals of the Copa Del Rey, even winning a last minute penalty which sent Villareal crashing out.

It was the highlight of the campaign, despite scoring the winner against Girona. A spat with the manager in May proved to be the final act of his career with Celta, as he was told to keep away from training and left out of the squad consistently. It meant that his spell in Spain, with both Celta and UD Salamanca, both ended in controversy.

Pedro told reporters in early June that he plans to meet Arsenal to discuss the future. That’s set to happen in the coming days with the club still keen to recall the player. Should they fail to win a work permit, the future looks extremely cloudy. A fourth season on loan is possible, but should a substantial bid arrive, a transfer away is likely.

Arsenal are currently involved in attempting to win a work permit for Bolivian starlet Samuel Galindo.

Andrew…Traore has all the physical attributes and skills to become a top class leftback. He has bad positional sence and makes some poor decsisions on the ball…these will improve with age. Everyone thinks all players are perfect at 20 years old. You have to see the potential.

if we can have amaury bischoff at our club for a year then im sure we can have pedro botelho here for at least a year. he has the talent to become a good player for us if he calms down and focuses on football. AW will make sure of that no doubt.

      yeah but what position
he cant play as a left back we have clichy, gibbs and traore for that spot
he cant LM/LW we have Arshavin, Nasri and Vela for that spot

can he play DM, CB or Gk? thats the only thing we need to strengthen at this point

Andrew come on, Traroe was terrible this season and you know it. Gibbs has progressed much faster and he is not gonna get much better here (traroe that is). We need more reserves for the back line so i dont care if he comes, remember my friend clichj and gibbs were both out for a part of this season so another LB would do us NO HARM.

    @shane
I know hes a good player but gibbs is the same age as him and he is a better player than Traore in all aspects of the game
then you have clichy who is only 24
the truth is that Traore will never become our first choice LB and neither will this Bothelo fellow
Isnt it better to sell Traore to PSG where he wants to go, where he dreams to go
why waste his talent when he cant even make the bench with this curent side

I want to see Pedro Botelho at arsenal. He looks a talent and we do need some players who can dribble and go past players. I see him as a left winger with brains.

Armand traore could be a good left back but at the moment Gibbs is way ahead hes comfortable with the ball. Armand traore looks shaky hes cost us alot of games this season young traore. But hes a young lad he will get better. But will he get the chances next season i seriously doubt

Look at Fabio coentrao i cant belive this kid he was a flashy, cocky left winger now hes playing as a hard working, committed left back. I have never seen a transformation in aplayer like coentrao.

He use to play like Cristiano ronaldo, highly skillfull but selfish now hes a team player who can defend against wingers and his end product is brilliant

I agree, it’s a massive transformation. The only transformation that comes near in my opinion is Bastian Schweinsteiger. Used to be a petulant, childish badly behaved winger, and now a fantasticly mature central midfielder who in my opinion has been one of the players of the World Cup so far.

I think wenger can bring his attitude in check but where and when will he play ???
and arshavin can dribble past player, nasri can dribble past player, walcott can run past players. He have a huge amount of dribblers in our side I dont know why people think our players cant dribble.
Wenger doesnt want our players to play selfish football where you try to do everything on your own he thinks if you can pass the ball then do that if you dont have anyone to pass to then try and score which is how it should be

i get the impression he will feature like eboue in that he will provide cover at the back and also give us the option of playing him wide further up the field.

personally, i’ve never seen the lad play (not including clips) so i am interested to see how they feel he might fit in. traore never really had tricks, he got the ball wide and whipped in devilish crosses, so in that sense he wasn’t an option for a wide left of a front three position like eboue had. eboue isn’t great attacking, but he’s dangerous and commits players.

people say that we need wingers and wide players, and then say that his kid needs to be sold. while i haven’t seen much of him, he seems to give people problems going forward so maybe pedro could be one. we hadn’t had much natural width on the left since we lost reyes so i definitely think he could provide options left of a front three or left side of a 4 man midfield. between clichy and gibbs i think left back is sorted.

did he not meet the criteria for citizenship?

I’ve never understood why we don’t have a link with a Belgium club? It only takes 2 years in Belgium to gain citizenship. And heck, if we link with Anderlecht, we could have a chance of getting Lukaku!

I think he will do well hes good going forward and fullbacks that are good going forward are always eye catching. I think he could do well. Though with gibbs and traore waiting in the wings for cups and/or reserves its hard to see how much playing time he’d get. Maybe 6months at arsenal then a loan till the end of the sesaon?

i wonder if wenger has it in mind that botelho will challenge vela for the left winger role in the first team?

Well I can’t say this boy won’t make it at Arsenal because I can’t tell the future like anybody else on here but I do know that I want him to get a fair chance. He could play Carling Cup and you just never know. People wasn’t to crazy about Gibbs stepping in at first but now people are praising him. Pedro should have a chance to put on a Arsenal shirt before we just say WHATEVER YOU WON’T MAKE IT SO BYE. He seems like he could be the left sided Eboue because of the fact that he can play Left back and left midfield. You just never know for sure so let the boy get here atleast

Actually on pure physical tools, Traore has more upside than Gibbs. Of course whether that pans out or not is a different story. I would not be opposed to letting him move on. 2 other leftbacks is fine. Botelho will not make it. He is an average player with a horrible attitude but wenger will most likely give it a year before he sends him on his way.

I figure he must have some potential if Wenger is willing to go through the work of helping him mature out of this childish stage he seems to be in. Also, perhaps he is a left sided Eboue, but then again so is Traore if you ask me. Either way, competition never hurts from Arsenal’s perspective. It should be able to drive one of these youngsters to be a better footballer in the long run.

I think it would be most unfair if we didn’t just try him out in the carling cup for a year and at least let him try and settle in England for a bit and let him graft at the actualy club that bought him.

I don’t think he’s got the real capabilities for a left back, but he can learn like Gibbs about positional sense. HE could try left wing like Traore but I agree about there being too many now/soon which makes me think that certainly in a year or two that Clichy will go (and I wouldn’t mind tbh at a good price as Gibbs will be the next Arsenal left back IMHO soon enough as AW will give him the chance to cement it).

i hope wenger’s not stacking up all these left backs because he’s thinking about offloading clichy…

clichy can be a future great…he’s athletic, enthusiatic, and when he concentrates he’s a really good defender…

it would sadden me greatly to see his best years being played at barca or madrid. he’s ours dammit.

Wasn’t there a load of issues with Beveren, I believe Arsenal were investigated but they found nothing wrong with the way we develop talent there. But perhaps Wenger is trying to avoid all that controversy and avoid all that nonsense again.

Don’t know anything about Botelho or the other fella you’re on about but if we’ve spent years getting them ready to come here the least that will happen is drop them in the reserves and see how it goes. Yes the 1st team would be unbalanced with so many people playing in 1 position but they’re hardly likely to be displacing some of the world class talent we already have.

The balotelli rumours are annoying. The odd games I’ve seen him play he’s shit! He came on a few times in the Champions League with Inter and looked lost and didn’t know what was going on. I hope he won’t come here but doubt he will really. We just need defenders, a keeper better than that useless aussie donkey and some better strikers. RVP can’t stay fit and we have a spakker from Denmark, a crock from Mexico and a broken mess from Brazil/Croatia. We need better players than these 3 wasters!

    Hi all

I am a Celta fan and I have followed most of the games past season. Botelho is not a bad player, but he is a trouble-maker.

He have been sent off the trainning field at least 4 times, after fighting with team mates.

He also had more than arguments with some fans in a local night club the night before a crucial game for Celta. (4.00 am)

Managers asked to Celta’s president to fine him because of his behaviour but the agreement Arsenal – Celta does not allow this kind of punishment.

There are no doubts about his skills, but he seems to play just for himself. He played most of the games as left-back, very good in attack, but too lazy to make the way back to defence.

I don’t think that he is skilled enough for a team like Arsenal.

By the way, Vigo’s media said that Celta is very interested in having Galindo and Wellington on loan for the next season. Have you heard anything about this?

Galindo has just signed and Wellington will be coming next January. I suspect they will go to Celta if they cannot get visas here. As Wellington is already playing for Brazil under 21s he may well come straight in (as Denilson did). I don’t know too much about Galindo (except that he is very good and also plays for his national side) but Wellington is supposed to be something quite special (on his trial over here he scored four against Norwich) so many fans are very keen to see signed and sealed.

I am more excited about wellington silva than galindo i feel we have far too many central players and not enough players who can dribble and go past players.

Those players you need and i feel we lack that in the arsenal first team ever since hleb has gone we dont really have one
