Wellington Silva Poised To Jet In For Pre-Season

Wellington Silva is preparing to fly into North London for pre-season training next month, with Arsenal looking to continue their ‘acclimatization’ of the 17-year-old before he completes his switch to the Gunners in January.

Silva is currently part of the first-team setup with parent-club Fluminense, although he’s been used spairingly by coach Muricy Ramalho this term. A selection of solid substitute appearances has seen the forward add to his rising stock, and although Sierie A is currently taking a break during the World Cup, the Laranjeiras side expect to have their squad together ready for the restart on July 18th. However, clauses inserted in the ownership agreement mean Arsenal are free to recall the prospect at anytime.

Flu’s President Alcides Antunes is desperate to keep the side together, yet he confirmed he is powerless to stop the Brazil Under 17 international from leaving for training in London.

“It’s in the contract. We cannot do anything. I have not received the request yet, but there’s no problem”

Arsène Wenger is keen to run the rule over Wellington during pre-season, and assess how ready he is to compete for a first-team place. A brace and assist during a behind closed door friendly against Dagenham and Redbridge last season in front of the Frenchman was plenty to catch the eye, but how ready he is for the rigours of Premier League football, Wenger is keen to find out.

Due to FIFA ruling, Silva cannot take part in any of Arsenal’s fixtures during pre-season, but competitive training with the first-team will stand the diminutive striker in good stead ahead of his full time switch in January.

Good to hear! I’d still be very surprised if he stepped straight into the squad though in January. I think 5 months out in Spain might treat him nicely, get him to a side with a couple of friendly Brazilians.

Then move him back here into Denilsons spare room and instruct Deni to make him feel more at home with his samba dance moves

sorry off topic but J is there aný truth in this rumour?

Cesar Azpilicueta, one of the most sought-after securities Osasuna resumes vigorously to reinforce one of the greats of European football as Arsenal. A Arsène Wenger likes the right side of the pink team and I tried signing in the winter market.

But Patxi Izco, president of Osasuna, is quiet. The clause in the player is 15 million euros and as is the market is very difficult for any team to go to provide these figures.

So far there has been no formal proposal Azpilicueta, although the Premier team would try again this summer.

Another player listed on the template is Monreal Osasuna, which have not reached deals and Osasuna hope to have the two sides for next season.

There is something that really worries me about Silva. He has cried a few times at Flu when he made his debut and other significant milestones. He comes across as an emotional type of guy. How on earth is he going to cope when he comes to rainy London, without his family or friends. This idea to get him here a few times before he makes the permanent move is a very good one and hopefully it goes some way to helping him acclimatise very quickly.

Denilson can certainly help as well since hes gone through a similar process, but he did have a really mature guy in Gilberto to help him out back then.

He cried because he debuted for Flu’s 1st team at such a young age and actually contributed. they are a legendary club for brazil and he was so young he could not contain himself. This has nothing to say about his personality, and if it does it means that this kid is gonna be willing to put it all on the line for arsenal. He cant even come to london (to stay that is) until Jan 2011, so relax…wenger will work with him, plus hes got Denilson, Edu to make him feel at home

Im sure there will be a bedding in process and we wont rush him but i think he seems like a confident guy and his up for the challenge! I can wait to have ramsey, wilshere, wellington all playing regularly for us, maybe throw in hazard and lukaku and were set for 10 years!

I liked the fact that he cried after his Flu debut :) to me it shows that he cares, rather then his softness… I think football in Brazil is something different. It can give opportunity to the guys like him they won’t get any other way… I’m not sure if his family coming with him, but it definitely might be the case… anyway, Denilson is capable of helping… he is not Gilberto, of course, but he isn’t a kid anymore either… and he seems pretty friendly) Plus i think we have quite some experience in dealing with home sickness due to so many foreign kids in our squad.

Rosicky is gonna be done soon, Wilshere might be used as a winger, Arsh is actually a number 10 not a winger, nasri is a CAM converted into wingers…. so in actuality we have Walcott, Rosicky, as “true” wingers. We need TRUE proven wingers. Allefy would do well in the squad, buy him sell tomas (who is injury prone and on his way out of the lime light) 11 mill – (6 mill for tomas)= -5 mill which is not too bad for basically getting a younger player who will eventually spend more time with us then tomas has left

This was definitely a game for Cesc. He should have gone on instead of Torres who is clearly nowhere near match fit. Cesc could have easily gone on and played behind Villa. He would have carved Switzerland open. But yeah, really happy with this result. Come on Chile, knock these fuckers out.

Tabascorez, that is what I was thining, that they didn’t want Cesc to come on and be Spain’s best player in the tournament. They don’t want someone who plies his trade in a foreign league to be rewarded, nor do they want the likes of Man City or whoever offering 80-100 million for him after a possible stellar World Cup.

I agree with lesauxlegend in some aspects but xavi is being played out of position in an AM role a position filled by cesc for arsenal last season brilliantly. Xavi is more of a deep lying playmaker, and Spain are playing very conservatively with two DM in busquets and alonso. So I think they should drop busquets put xavi in his position and either put iniesta or cesc in the role xavi was playing. I personally would be cesc but I’m very biased. Also anyone who says anything about pedro or navas playing they are not in competition with cesc and Spain needed the width those players provided. They are wide players cesc is a AM playmaker.

Fabregas wouldn’t have changed the game. They needed width, not another CM. Navas was carving up the Swiss backline. Torres should have stayed on the bench and someone like Mata should have came on.

I didn’t see the start of the match, but I saw that Spain played Iniesta, Xavi, Alonso AND Busquets. Four central midfielders? At first I thought it was Silva on the left and perhaps Iniesta on the right, but I saw him in the middle all the time. Can anyone bring any light to this?

      They play like this:

      Iniesta————————–Silva
      ————-Xavi—–Alonso
      —————-Busquets

Iniesta normally plays as a right footed CAM. He’s naturally going to drift inside – especially playing Villa on his own up front.

    • June 16, 2010 at 7:29 pm
      Permalink

Yeah but I often saw Iniesta drop back to defence to pick up the ball and start new attacks and Silva was on the left so even if Iniesta was playing as a winger it would’ve been on the right. Maybe they changed after the break, as that’s when I started watching it?
I think Silva played behind Villa like he does for Valencia and Iniesta was just given a free role.

iniesta spent the whole match diving instead of concentrating on creating oportunities. did anyone see it when xavi let the ball run across his body when he was being challenged before throwing himself to the ground in an attempt to win a free kick. its disgraceful how bad the diving and the play acting in the WC has been.

And the spaniards game today was so good for arsenal because now Fabregas knows how his nesxt 6-7 seasons are going to be at Barcelona! Bench, Bench, more Bench, last 25-25 mins, one game in starting XL when either Xavi or Iniesta are injured! he really shouldn´t go to Barcelona, at arsenal he is the biggist fish in a “small pond” which isnt even that small! but at Barcelona he will be a medium sized fish in a huge pond!

There must be something wrong with Fabregas’s fitness that no one knows about. He didn’t even warm-up. Navas did well, but I still think Fabregas is as good as Iniesta and Xavi. Spain didn’t need to play Busquets AND Xabi Alonso at the same time. They really only needed to play one of them. Then Fabregas could have taken Xabi Alonso or Busquets place. Even if they just did that for the 2nd half it would have made a difference. And for those worried about Wellington’s emotional state: didn’t a 17 year old Pele cry on the shoulder of Djalma Santos in 1958 when they won the world cup?? The kid will be fine. If his family comes over, it will help him immensely, but if they don’t, I’m sure the Arsenal players will make him feel at home.

Fabregas is much, much better then both Xavi and Iniesta. He is far more attacking than Xavi, and more efficient. Just watch Xavi, he makes one attacking pass in thirty. Frankly, I’m utterly annoyed by Spain’s game with him in the middle. For god’s sake, it’s not a wonder he has 93% successful pass rate, because he doesn’t play attacking passes. Here’s what the statistics say, and why I think Fabregas is much better than Xaviesta.

Xavi, 54 played, 7 goals and 18 assists
      Iniesta, 43 played, 1 goal, 9 assists

Fabregas, 36 played, 19 goals and 20 assists

So please don’t compare El Capitan to those two miseries :)

The article I read said that Wellington will be coming to Arsenal for one month to train and also for him to sort out a place to live.

I’m not sure how much Wenger will use him when he comes in January. He would walk on to our Carling Cup team and easily be one of the most exciting players on it. Hopefully we will still be in that competition when he gets here.

In any case, he almost certainly won’t be going out on loan.

why does the PL hate us? every year they s***w us

These are the away matches that follow midweek group games.

    Sep 18 – Sunderland (a)
    Oct 02 – Chelsea (a)
    Oct 23 – Manchester City (a)
    Nov 06 – Newcastle (h)
    Nov 27 – Aston Villa (a)
    Dec 11 – Manchester United (a)

Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United away from home after Champions League ties? I don’t like that one little bit and it stinks.

Oh and incase you were wondering how the fixtures turned out for Chelsea and Manchester United, well the Mancs have four home matches, two away and the Chavs have three home and three away. Five of our six games are away from home and two of those five are against the top two sides of last year, another is against big spending Manchester City. I am not happy about that in the slightest and I am sure Arsene will be livid about the hand he has been dealt.

4/6 of those teams will be playing european football the same week and at least 3/6 will be playing their european games after us. In reality if you stop crying and making yourself look like naive ignorant fool, you’d realise that its not actually that bad. I’d rather play united/chelsea/vill/city when we’ve both had midweek games as imo we have a very fit younger squad who can deal with it better. I’d rather this sceneario then playing 6 teams like sunderland newcastle who will have a weeks rest advantage over us.

When chelsea and united play there games it will be against teams who are well rested.

Not bothered about playing them away from home. Wont make a difference since both teams will have played the midweek game. City and Villa probally on the thursday!
