Boreham Wood 0-3 Arsenal; Miyaichi & Wellington Star

A Neil Banfield coached Arsenal XI dispatched of non-League Boreham Wood this evening, winning 3-0. Goals two minutes either side of the whistle in the first half gave the Gunners the win, with a late own goal wrapping up victory. Mark Randall and Benik Afobe got the Arsenal goals.

Arsene Wenger, Ivan Gazidis, Steve Rowley and Pat Rice were all present as trialist Rio Miyaichi started in a strong lineup. Banfield also included Wojciech Szczesny and Havard Nordtveit from the first-team, plus he was boosted with Kyle Bartley and Thomas Cruise returning. Brazilian forward Wellington Silva was on the bench.

Szczesny
Nordtveit – Bartley – Miquel – Cruise
Aneke – Randall – Ozyakup
Murphy – Afobe – Miyaichi

The fixture was just 2 minutes old when Arsenal snapped out of the blocks and got themselves a stunning opener. Mark Randall collected the ball and from just inside the Boreham Wood half, he then lobbed goalkeeper Gareth Williams in spectacular fashion. It was an amazing start. 1-0.

Japanese trialist Miyaichi had began with a point to prove and he showed exactly he deserves a contract right from the off. The winger tortured Luke Garrard and won a corner. Aneke should have scored but he dragged it over. The Gunners exploited the monopoly Rio had over Garrard and the trialist should have doubled the scores half way through the period. He ran 35 yards with the ball, rode a selection of challenges and smashed the cross bar.

Miquel was next to try, and he should have had a goal to match his solid performance, but he headed over from another corner won by the very impressive Miyaichi. However, just before the break, they got their second. Aneke placed Afobe through with the goalkeeper and he made no mistake from close range. 2-0 at half time.

Wellington Silva came off the bench at half time to a warm applause. Within moments he was running at his full back, full of tricks and energy. His first moment of magic came as he found Aneke, who in turn picked out Afobe. The striker burst clear but had his shot saved. Aneke’s re-bound was also blocked.

Silva was then on hand poised to turn in a cross from the left, but Miyaichi’s final ball was poor. The Japanese prospect came off on the hour mark having shown his excellent quick feet and dribbling, yet his slight size may be a set back. After Rio went off, it was the Wellington show. The Brazilian was getting information from a translator on the bench and now operating on the left, he whipped in two out-side of the foot crosses which almost found Afobe in space.

The 17-year-old should have had a debut goal on two occasions. First he did two step overs, cut inside and shot, then he smashed a 20-yarder which was tipped over. There was just time for a third as Evina’s cross was shanked in for an own goal. 3-0 and a thoroughly impressive run out.

I hope Miyaichi signs on. It would be nice to see some far eastern talent. He’s definitely a type of player that we’ve not had in years, a direct tricky winger in the mould of Ronaldo. Our “wingers” are converted playmakers at the moment and a out-and-out winger would be nice to see. I love to see fast, skillful players, so it’ll be nice to see Miyaichi (if he signs) and Wellington bombing down the wings. The slow build-up play often seen with the first team can be quite boring and ineffective at times, so these direct players may provide another dimension.

So J, if we sign Miyaichi, do you think he’ll go into first team plans (carling cup and the odd bench appearance) or would he be appearing more for the reserves?

Miyaichi sounds mustard. I don’t think having a slight frame will be a problem. He’s young and can work on his frame with fitness instructors. Surely having the talent is the most important thing?

I hope Wellington gets to join up with the first team in January.

I dunno is it just me or d’ya reckon Arsenal could be heading into a purple patch…. All the English players recently and now hearing about this trialist Miyaichi and Wellington Silva whom a lot of peeps have been ready to see involved, i know their not the finished article but i’m sure every1 will agree our young players offer more prospects every year. Fair play to the man Wenger and lets hope he stays for many a year to see his project come to fruition.

There are maybe a lot of MU or liverpool fan in Asia, But people around here really acknowledge Arsene as the best coach. If arsenal want to capture Asian Market, Arsenal do not need to have friendlies, just send Arsene over this side of region. And he did come here during international frinedly last sesaon and really make people talk about Arsenal. and that after he just have a session with 30-40 junior player. a little praise on 1 or 2 player and what the national coach should aim, a lot of MU fan is wearing Arsenal shirt the next day..

He’s listed as 1.80 metres on one website which translates as 5 foot 11, and 1.83 – just over six foot – on another. Not short.

Also, it’s definitely-ish not Rio. Far better to go with Ryou or Ryo as Rio is an Anglicized girls name.

Japanese translated names can be a nightmare.

Hey guys, long time reader, first time commenter…anyway, I had read about Ryo, and decided to look him up and found this video of him: http://www.mefeedia.com/watch/29985038

tricky little bastard. plays almost *exactly* like ronaldo did at the same age. if we don’t get him, i think we will really regret it, just as wenger must regret not signing ronaldo when we were inches away all those years ago.

    cheers

I also said he was like ronaldo, Even the way how he hunches his back when he runs is the same. I so hope we get this kid. For so many yrs i’ve been dying to see a player like this

I think the fact that arsene pat and ivan were all there is a very good sign. Wellington and Ryo were definitely the main focus.

Surprised at the slight frame comment J, he looks ok in vids. Was u there J?

    Just got back.

Boy oh boy do we have some player in Silva. Such a devilishly skillful and direct guy!! His one aim is to score and he came close numerous times. He is a class above the rest of the field and would in all probability go into the 1st team when he comes in Jan.

Although he is quite short, the opponents found it hard to knock him off the ball without fouling him. He has a great shot on him too. Believe me, we got this guy for an absolute bargain.

As for the Japanese kid, I thought he was pretty nervous and tentative in the first half but came alive in the second where he beat his man numerous times. He is also a skillful one but looks pretty weak physically.

As for the others…well everyones already accustomed to them…but just a little mention to Aneke…his vision and touch are top, top class.

The biggest problem must be getting a work visa for Miyaichi even if we were to offer him a contact. 3 years ago Wenger wanted to sign another young Japanese player Sho Ito but could not get a special talent visa for him so he end up joining French league club Grenoble.

Re Gai Assulin. Rumour has it that Man City are interested if not have already signed him. (Please underline the word “rumour”.)

As for B*rca, they’re broke and will only offer what is reasonable to sign or keep a player. Besides, Assulin is 19, and there are simply too many players in front of him at the Camp No*.

Situation-wise he sounds a cross between Barazite and Amaury Bischoff.
