Loanees – Freeman Scores Winner, Watt In Action

Welcome to this weekends Loanees Watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium. You can read all the latest reports below.

In League One…

Luke Freeman played 84 minutes and scored the winner on his Yeovil Town debut this afternoon. Freeman went straight into the starting lineup on the left wing in a 4-4-2. Former Fulham defender Elliot Omozusi had the tricky task of marking Luke who was dangerous straight from the off.

The Arsenal striker cut inside and clipped one shot inches wide, before Dean Bowditch turned and smashed Yeovil in front. The Glovers stepped up their attacking in search for a second and Freeman found himself in a great position to double the advantage, but Adam Chambers fouled him, collecting a yellow card. Alex Revell bagged the equaliser four minutes before the break.

However, it wasn’t 1-1 at the break, as deep into first-half stoppage time, Freeman pounced to turn in Andy Williams’ spilled shot from close range. It was 2-1 at half time, and that’s how it finished.

In The Championship…

Elsewhere, Sanchez Watt played the full 90 minutes for Leeds United as they lost 2-1 to Derby County. Watt began on the left of a 5 man midfield but switched with fellow wideman Lloyd Sam throughout the half. The quick-silver forward was rather quiet in an all action first period which Leeds were lucky to be only 2-1 down in come the break.

Watt had little luck wide on the right in the second period, but moved inside into a number 10 role as Leeds hunted for the equaliser. He setup two shots for Johnson and Grella late on, but both were blocked. Sanchez then should have done better with a free header inside the box, but he headed over from Johnson’s delivery. It finished 2-1 to Derby.

Good stuff, I thought Watt was pretty quiet but showed a few glimpses of quality. Did Ayling play a part for Yeovil?

Actually i watched the leeds match and watt looked very lazy and disinterested, especially in the first half.

I’m not sure Leeds style of football suits Watt at all far too much route one! He showed some glimpses of quick feet but Derby play the kind of football which would suit his (our) style better…

Leeds were all long-balls, they definitely won’t get the best out of Watt with that kind of football. Yet he still managed to impress, I thought he showed a lot of class and quality whenever he got the ball (which wasn’t often).

..I hope Fabanski should be thinking about another job because at this point we have to pay teams to take him.

    Nasri has grown.

Ya good luck for jack, gibbs and theo and lets all laugh at joe cole and defoe because they are axed. Arsenal represent the most number of players(3) along with chelsea in the squad so now the people who talk arsenal are anti english can keep their mouth well shut

I think the term ‘axed’ might be a bit harsh, after all this is merely an experiment for Capello.

I think it is too early for Jack Wilshere to be called up. I would have waited to see how he performed throughout the first part of the season before I called him up. Gibbs is the best left back England have got besides Cashley. He’s the only other option. If I were Capello I would use Wilshere in an advanced midfield role.

gibbs is immense for me..he has great mentality and is very mature for his age..how far has he come since joining arsenal as a skinny tiny winger that looked like he wud eventually play in the conference! congrats to him,i feel it is a bit early for wilshere but unless he has the most amazing training sessions then i dont think he,ll play anyway so the experience will b good, walcott being called up just makes capello look like even more of a dick!lol

Watched the game again frimpong was poor. He was out of position so much and his passing was poor.

I think eastmond is a better holding midfielder than frimpong and i think coqulin is better than both sadly.

Ppl go on about fabianski but lets be honest we always look vulnerable on set pieces. Its go nothing to do with the goalkeeper. We just lack big, tall, physcail players.

But then again we didnt have the likes of van persie, bendtner, diaby, song, djorou playing might have been a different story/

I also thought lansbury did very well when he came on apart from his mistake for the goal he should have cleared it instead of controlling it. But thats midfielders for you and why they shouldnt play in defence.

Thought he done quite well broke up play and passed the ball well.

Carlos vela i think this could be his year hes looking really sharp and hes creating goals.

Samir nasri sorry i just dint think hes as good as everyone makes out him to be. He lacks pace and when fabregas comes back he will be shifted back to the wings.

He cant play in the middle in the premiership cause he will give the ball away hes not strong enough to hold challenges and go past players with pace.

Sadly i think wilshere, ramsey are better central players than nasri.

Change the record with your constant Nasri slating. You are in a minority of one! He must have snubbed you when you offered to buy him a drink in that nite club last saturday night!

      Get over it!

john……..ive not heard a more incorrect judgement of a player than urs of nasri..i know we all have opinions but u just listed hes strengths!! nasri never gives the ball away and hes quick feet leaves players dead..hes not even weak considering his size!! i think u maybe confused with rosicky!!??

Wilshere should be playing in nasris position hes faster, stronger and can open teams up

What i would like to see arsenal do is play wilshere behind the striker and play lansbury in central midfield.

    @ John

your views of Arsenal makes me go WTF to be honest

ur like Forest Gump, you show sign of Brilliance in ur comments then top class WTF statements.

Nasri is class, he is hands down our best player in pre-season then after him i would go for either Wilshere or Chamakh.

I have no concerns for these season Just GK,

Watt had a 50/50 game for me, occassional brilliance but he can’t show off his skillls with the play leeds used today

Just got back from holiday(vacation) and watched all I’ve missed! Youth ranks are loaded! But the first team needs experienced defenders ASAP! I’m missing Gallas and Campbell already. i would give my first born to see Mr. Wengers list on top of his desk of defenders he is looking @ we need top-notch now 10-15 mil each whomever they might be sign em up? We forget the premier league is ruthless. Let’s hear some concrete names to fill the back! Best of luck and enjoy all fans of AFC! We don’t need a keeper we need a ferocious ( I will kill your family CB) NOW! maybe two of them? Peace to the Young Gunners blog

I doubt it would make much difference what keeper we play our defending is atrocious. The current formation and staff is no improvement on last year, in fact i would say we will struggle more than last year as most teams have improved their squads and first x1 over the summer, whilst ours have certainly not improved.

Let’s be honest fabregas is a better player than nasri in cm so is Ramsey. Bed player pre season it doesn’t matter. You watch the premier league nasri won’t go past players and pass the ball sideways as usual. He lacks pace and strength for me and he can’t control a midfield as well. I still don’t understand why we bought him he was never a replacement for hleb. When cescm comes back nasri will probably be on the bench or left wing where he slows down arsenal attacks

You really are clueless. nasri is top quality. Your atatement is laughable. You obviously have no idea about the player or football do you?

I do agree Nasri needs to be more dynamic in term short movement towards the ball and long movement off-the-ball to run in behind as well as dribbling on the inside & outside of the full back to keep fullback guessing because when teams pack that central area against us Nasri tends to be one of the predictable/ineffective players for us.

John’s right though, the tempo in friendly matches is very different to the Premier League. But I don’t think Wilshere is better than Nasri yet. Give him time

The fact that there is an article on Arsew.com where Sagna says he thinks Saphic is good enough for Arsenal maybe an indication that he will sign for us. It would be a bit like all the barca players saying how great Cesc would be in Catalunia, otherwise!

    HI mate,

Thought you were a bit harsh on Watt there.

Maybe it’s seeing a Leeds team void of width for the last few seasons, but I thought both him and Lloyd Sam kept themselves busy throughout. Interesting to see them switching sides too as you pointed out.
