Bristol City 1-0 Arsenal; Defensive Error Costs Gunners

Arsenal continued their shaky start to the new Premier Academy League season with a 1-0 defeat against Bristol City. Steve Bould’s side dominated most of the game, but without first choice strikers Philip Roberts and Zak Ansah, the Gunners couldn’t convert their array of chances.

Bould’s selection issues continued as Josh Rees was again at right back while James Campbell, normally a left back, played the holding role. Swiss youngster Martin Angha returned from international duty to take the armband.

Charles-Cook
Rees – Angha (c) – Monteiro – Brislen-Hall
Webb – Edge – Campbell
Ebecilio – Neita – Bihmoutine

With the scores level, a throw from substitute Ben Glasgow was not read by Jamie Edge and City took full advantage, eventually forcing the ball home via Monteiro’s out stretched leg. It finished 1-0.

Jesus christ, we were missing our two best strikers, we were playing people out of position…I mean this is not a fair reflection or representation of our academy league team. They will get back to where they should be, which is at or near the very top. No, they aren’t as good as the class of 2008/09 but I wouldn’t expect them to be either. A lot of them haven’t been at the club as long as those players. So many of those players had played their entire careers at Arsenal. We will ,and can, produce talent of that quality again and I would bet that at least 2 players from this team end up with the 1st team in a couple of years!!:D No need to get all down and depressed about things right now!!:D Proud to be a Gooner!!:D

the thing I dont understand is why play one of the best players this season so far out of position? Rees is the best in midfield in u18 so far and it was he who scoreed goals and created much by his own. Why play such a player out of position?

    J.

Has Reese Charles-Cook taken over the #1 spot from Sean McDermott or is McDermott hurt. I understood McDermott to be the best of our younger keepers. Is that all hype and not actually the case? Charles-Cook looked good in the last match against Reading but I really don’t know much about him.
