Pires Returns To Arsenal For Training

Arsenal legend Robert Pirès is back training in North London. Arsène Wenger has allowed the 36-year-old use of the club’s London Colney training centre as he bids to maintain fitness and seek a fresh challenge.

Pirès will also offer words of wisdom to Arsenal’s Reserves and Youth teams as he enters the second week of training with The Gunners. The Frenchman is currently a free agent after Spanish outfit Villareal decided against extending his contract in July.

Robert enjoyed six campaigns with Arsenal after moving from Marseille in 2000. He played 189 times, scoring 62 goals in a trophy laden spell in England. Pirès is hoping he can impress potential suitors enough to win a return to the French Ligue One, whilst still offering guidance and expertise to Arsenal’s emerging youngsters.

He absolutely can and think of the experience and knowledge our young players will get

I will jump at the chance of training or watching players like Pires or Henry train

LET HIM PLAY, he could easily match the effort Arshavin puts in.

Even if he wasn’t pushing for a first-team place, he’d make an excellent, experienced squad player. Might come in handy if we pick up more injuries in wide positions. I say sign him up.

      similar to Gallas situation

I don’t get the criticism Arshavin gets he has played 9 games has 5 goals and 4 assists what more do you guys wants from the guy
He doesn’t have a terrific work rate but he is certainly one of the most dangerous players in our team

Being dangerous doesn’t matter when you can’t be assed to track back. Arsenal’s system rests on pressing throughout the pitch, and when Arshavin doesn’t put in the effort, it greatly diminishes the effectiveness of the pressing. Luckily, Anelka was being lazy as well so the right wasn’t the area that as burned. Instead, it was Nasri’s fault since he didn’t track back and mark Cole. That’s the problem with playing without natural wide players or with narrow wing forwards. There’s no one to pin back the fullbacks.

our first XI will be back by the brimingham game dont worry
Theo will provide width and counter attacking force
Cesc will provide the killer pass
      Vermaelen will provide the steel
      Fabianski is finally coming good
and Arshavin will get a break with Nasri and Rosicky rotating on the LW spot
      so keep your head

I’m not a hater or an idiot who thinks Arsenal are going to the shitter. But that doesn’t mean we should sticks our heads in the sand. The first 11 at Arsenal is unrivaled. That much is true. The problem is the fact there never is a first 11 at Arsenal because of the injuries, which because of their constant reoccurrence, cannot be attributed to just bad luck. It’s the nature of the players that Arsenal employ. They are injury prone, so injuries have to be seen as a natural occurrence for Arsenal. Arsenal have the best cover in probably the world. But it the definition of “cover” and “bench players” gets muddled when those players are starting half the season.

That all sounds well and good, but there will never be a full strength Arsenal squad on any game day, yet Arsenal still lost that game instead of Chelsea winning it which is a testament to what Wenger is doing. If he would just get the tactics right, then it would help the work of the players.

The game against chelsea the referee also do many spiritual damages, but kudos to fanbiasky and our new fullbacks.

Well, another defeat against chelsea but as wenger said we played well and got 0 points. When you consider the fact that we had more chances infront of goal and we dominated for most parts of the 2nd half it makes you think.Chelsea on the other scored one goal from open play and another from a freekick. The Disaster was not loosing to chelsea but WBA at home!!
Had Kos scored at early stage of the game and Arshavins effort which was brilliantly saved we could have been 2 up.We were very unlucky not to get a point..We have too many key players out that could change a game Robin Cesc Theo but as always we never have a fit first 11…Still I think there is more to come and lets hope we dont get the injuries after the international break..wish they never play cause we always get injuries.

what is everyone’s problem with Arshavin? He has been easily one of our best players this season especially putting in a match winning performance at Spurs!

That said Pires could come in useful so maybe he will sign him up

Arshavin is absolute class. Look at his stats. If you want a workhorse rather than a guy who was 6th in Fifa World Player of the Year I think you’re supporting the wrong club.

    Arshavin’s stats speak for themselves.

I hate it when people criticise Arshavin. Leave the donkey work to players like Vermaelen, Song and Diaby.

Arshavin is working on his defence. When Ramires was clean trhough, Arshavin was busting his gut to mark him, no else was… He even caught him offside!

Apparently his stats are 65 games, 25 goals and 25 assists.

Or do you prefer Kevin Campbell and his work rate??

The problem with arsenal first team there are too many central playmakers orientated not enough wingers and holding midfielders. There is no balance and we lack pace discpline in midfield as a result

it think arsenal has the potentials to win the title this season. But questions should be ask about the performance of some of our players on yesterday game. Is chamakh realy d player wenger should have signed? does abou diaby realy deserves a first team shirt despite rosicky being fit? Can squillaci wiltstand the strength and pace of top strikers like drogba, tevez etc?

Pires is a beauty to behold and will remain a big name forever among the true gooners:esp those who had priviledge to see him mastery during his time at Arsenal. We lost a CL final because he was taken off when Lehman was sent off.
I hope he can do a Sol coz we are minted and can afford it.

chirst if he get’s re-signed Arsene will be all but admitting his lat 5 yrs have been an utter disaster

Fuck me he always harps on about the depth and class of talent we have in midfield/attack yet if he was to sign him for 6 months then Nas/Arsh/wilsh/Walcott must wonder if they need to go elsewhere to ply their trade when a 36 yr old (once world class) player can get in over them

our team needs to learn how to be more direct on goal and not searching for the perfect goal. just put it in like arshavin try to do. sometimes its good to do things on your own if you can do it like arshavin and JET do all the time. chamakh and nasri have the ability too but is searching for other players instead.

Yeah, sign 36 year old Pires to save our season. Nice idea genius. He can barely stand up!

Scott i agreed with you 100% arsenal will never hv a first eleven because of the players we have are light weight and get injury so you find out that how bench player are the one playing, so that just show how strong how bench is but it not enough to win us things cos at some point they will always come short.so i think they should sell van persis or another strike if not soon or later chamark is going to broke down and that will be a problem for the team .
