Onwards And Upwards For Ramsey

Aaron Ramsey is back. The Welshman pulled on an Arsenal shirt for the first time in nine months yesterday as his rehabilitation from a broken tibia and fibula entered it’s latter stages.

The venue or even the opponents were not glamorous, but for Ramsey, it was a start some feared he would never make. The 19-year-old turned in a decent and encouraging shift in the middle of the park, but came off at half time. The signs were positive, though. He had won tackles, gone into 50:50’s and brushed off some of the cob webs with a few passes and shots.

Arsène Wenger confirmed Aaron would be a regular fixture for the Reserves in the coming weeks when talking about the midfielder last month. That would suit Neil Banfield, who spoke yesterday about the influence the former Cardiff City is having, perfectly.

“They can learn from his energy and his enthusiasm for the game. He’s only young himself when you think about it. He’s come out today in his first game and it’s great to see him back on the pitch.”

“Hopefully he will have another run out with longer pitch time.”

Ramsey tired towards the end of the half yesterday but his impatience to gain the required match fitness to feature for the first team is evident. The next second string fixture is against West Brom on the 7th of December, in two weeks time. Aaron looks certain to play some part yet behind closed door friendlies are another realistic option.

The hope is that Ramsey will have progressed sufficiently to play a part in Arsenal’s busy Christmas period.

Cesc obviously has weak/tight hamstrings that are prone to injury, as have many other players; Giggs, Owen, Torres to name a few.

How is that Wenger’s fault you thick b*stard?

@wrenny, I think it is wenger’s fault becoz he should have rested fabregas given that he himself said the day before that cesc was having problems with his hamtring again.

wenger has risked too many players too often and most of the times he is punished for it by the players getting re-injured (RVP, Diaby, Gibbs, Cesc, Djourou, Eduardo).
He should have learned by now.

I can’t help but to think that there are a few reserve players at the moment that can make a good contribution to the first team, the likes of Sunu, Jey amount others.

THE REASON FABREGAS WAS RISKED IS BECAUSE OF THE PRESSURE WENGER IS FEELING TO BRING SILVERWARE THIS SEASON.THAT PRESSURE CAUSED BY IGNORANT , UNREALISTIC FANS WHO HAVNT GOT A CLUE AND JUMP ON THE INSTANT GRATIFICATION BANDWAGON FUELLED IN THE PRESS,

I agree. It is very annoying because it is causing panic for no reason. People forget the situation. New stadium, competing against a couple teams with no budget not to mention Man Utd.

I will say one thing…some of these players need roles. We need what is a first 11 or even top 14 or 15.

For instance, Walcott should be no where near a starter. The man can not link up to save his life. It often looks like we are playing with 10 men out there. All Walcott can do is run fast in behind the defense and is a decent finisher. He should be an impact sub at best.

Bendtner, who i have always been an advocate of, needs to realize he is not the world’s greatest striker. He has the Ibrahimovic type mentality with out the Ibrahimovic type ability. He really thinks he is a “match winner”.

Denilson is a squad player at best. Yes he is solid but should not be a starter at a club like Arsenal.

Clichy, who I use to be a huge fan of is simply not progressing anymore. I have no clue what happened with him. Gibbs has to be pushing on his heels.

Overall to me, it looks like a lot of these players have this mentality that Arsenal give young players a chance so that it is their right to play in the first team games. They seem to lack ambition to actually be great players. These kids need to earn their place. Look at Song and Nasri. They are earning their place in the team. Then you see the Bendtners and Walcotts and it often looks like they were just handed their spots.

I agree with Stoke Gunner. There are too many people jumping on the bandwagon saying that Wenger has to bring silverware this year or he should go. That is ridiculous. the average age of teh team is about 23/24 and we are getting better each year (and closer). We need to add a couple more players that is it. i want Gary cahill in the january transfer window. Also people have got to understand that wenger does not negotiate the transfer fees and therefore when we ghet gazumped by othewr clubs (e.g. smalling) it is not his fault. we are two points off the top of the table and have a good chance to win it this year. we have also been unlucky with some of the decision this year (e.g. the peanlty last night)

is it me or is Chuks Aneke getting taller. He looks even bigger than the start of the season. i hope he doesn’t lose his technical skills cos i think the guy could become like zidane. i know that is a big compliment but he reminds me so much of him.

Let the truth be known, quite frankly, AW has NEGLECTED the defensive side of the game with this bunch. It’s clear for all to see who actually know what they’re seeing. It’s also clear that there is MINIMAL shooting/finishing training involved at senior level. The lack of leaders on the pitch is also very alarming. Leaders aren’t made – they’re simply born with the trait.

I think that’s incredibly harsh on our defence, you can’t ignore the fact that we’ve had Vermaelen out for months and they’ve done a good job in his absence.

Of the 3 CBs we are left with, two are completely new to the club, not to mention to the Premier League. While the third has just missed an entire season through injury.

The problem stems from midfield and not having enough players tracking back quickly enough.

And in Vermaelen, Koscielny and Djourou we have 3 players with genuine world class potential, all of them in their early to mid-20s.

Arsenal need an upheaval of defensive coaches/coaching.

Pat Rice and Arsene Wenger NEVER drive their players on or get mad at an individual on the pitch for the most comical of mistakes.

The following squad members are leaders and/or winners by nature and don’t go hiding like a few of our boys. Wenger doesn’t believe influence to be an important trait but it’s paramount. If i don’t mention someone, it’s because they are yet to convince, i haven’t seen enough evidence yet or i’ve just forgotten about them:

Szschesny, Bartley, Squillaci, Vermaelen, Coquelin, Ozyakup, Wilshere, Lansbury, Ramsey, Cesc, JET, RVP

    I forgot Rosicky and Nasri.

Half of that bunch are reserve team players which goes to show we badly lack this most important quality – this explains why we are so prone to crumbling in the most shaming of fashions.
