Mannone On Outfield Option And Hull Stay

Vito Mannone is open to extending his stay with Championship outfit Hull City and is refusing to rule out a permanent transfer. Mannone is on loan to The Tigers until January and manager Nigel Pearson is keen to prolong the Italian’s stay.

The 22-year-old has made three appearances for Hull; keeping two clean sheets and making a selection of stunning saves. The switch came a matter of weeks after a damming interview in the foreign media, where Vito revealed his frustration at Arsène Wenger’s management of the club’s much talked about goalkeeper situation.

The criticism led to speculation that Mannone’s future is away from the Emirates. Hull could open up an escape route and in an interview with The Yorkshire Evening Post, he refused to rule it out.

“I don’t know what will happen. If the club is happy, and I’m happy, then we’ll sit down and make a decision.”

Vito went on to speak about his time at Arsenal; revealing a conversation he had with Wenger about his position.

“Wenger wanted me to play outfield. Sometimes I even train outfield to improve a little bit. I always liked to play outfield as well.”

“I played only one game outfield when I was five. I changed my mind and asked my dad if he could ask my manager to put me in goal. From that time I never came out of the sticks.”

Mannone will be keeping the gloves on, but whether he’ll be keeping goal for Arsenal in the future, it remains to be seen.

    as for mannone
modern goalkeeper need to know how to pass the ball and play their way out a tough situation
wenger was obviously trying to improve him in that aspect of his game

have seen highlights of hull games. He’s been very good I must say, hopefully next year he can get him loaned to a PL club and continue his development

If he wants to leave then let him leave, he obviously doesn’t have the patience that a top class player ought to have. If only he had Almunia’s mentality, same goes for Chez. They have the talent but not the mental strength to battle for a place. Playing for a top club doesn’t come easy, you have to fight and prove yourself, if he thinks he’s too good then screw him, let Hull have him.

I fail to see where he would fit into the first team. If Chesney is the favoured long term option, and Fabianski is short term option with the possibility of a new keeper being brought in and Almunia leaving, where does Mannone feature?

He’s too good to be a third or fourth choice, so his future must lie outside the club and it’s disingenuous of Arsene to try and convince Vito that he is a future first choice, as at best he will be second choice in about 5 years time.

is this a joke? Why on earth would wenger ask a goalie to play outfield?
Mannone must have been joking here.

He’s only 22 and he has a contract with us until 2014, so I don’t think he’s going anywhere just yet.

Seeing the younger Szczesny jump in front of him has probably made him a bit despondent, but Almunia will be off soon.

Mannone doesn’t have the huge potential of Szczesny but he’s still a big talent, we shouldn’t flog him off just because of Szczesny – you never know what can happen. Better to have two classy young GKs than one.

And he’s far too good to stay at Hull permanently, if he keeps playing the way he has done in his first three games for them there will be plenty of PL sides wanting to borrow him next season.

You never here any other teams young keepers talking so much in the press. Wenger should smack the shit out of these kids. Tired of these winers. Hell Manchester United have kept keeper on loan until they were 25 or 26 years old before.
