Aliadiere Aiming For Arsenal Return

Jérémie Aliadière believes he could be a valuable asset to Arsène Wenger next season, and wants to prove it. The 27-year-old has been granted a Reserve registration, and is in line to feature for Arsenal’s second string against Wigan Athletic this afternoon.

The Frenchman has been without a club since leaving Middlesbrough in the summer. After seeing several potential deals break down, Aliadière returned to Arsenal last month. He has since been training with Neil Banfield’s Reserves, and is set to play a hand in their title push.

Banfield’s boys head North tomorrow, to take on Wigan Athletic at the Robin Park Arena. Jérémie has been granted a Reserves regisitration and is poised to feature in the Premier Reserve League clash. A number of scouts are expected at the game to watch the striker, yet Aliadière has set his sights on an unlikely return to Arsenal.

He revealed his intent in the lastest edition of the Official Arsenal Magazine.

“Deep down in my heart, my ambition is to convince the boss that I can still do good things for Arsenal if he is looking for a forward for next season. He knows me. He knows what I am capable of. I love this club. It’s my home, my soul.”

“I am so happy and grateful to be here right now that I would love the story to continue.”

Aliadière won’t be the only experienced head in the Arsenal team, with Jens Lehmann expected to get 90 minutes ahead of a possible first-team start on Saturday. The 41-year-old has not played since June, but has been involved in training matches and is hoping to get a run out.

The fixture kicks off at 2pm, and you can follow live text updates and all the team news on our Twitter feed. You can also check here for all the latest news out of Holloway.

Can someone (a Middlesbrough supporter perhaps) give us the low down – why was he released from a Championship club? Does he have his pace? Composure when finishing? Is he better than Vela? I guess we’ll know more if he plays tomorrow but don’t players with contracts need games, too?

Not gonna lie but forwards feels like the least of our worries, we have: Nasri, Van Persie, Walcott, Arshavin, Chamakh, Bendtner, Vela who all play in the top three. Plus the prospect of Wellington, Miyaichi, Emmanuel-Thomas and even Botelho seems to play up there.

Would be incredibly surprised if we signed Aliadiere, no deal for me.

Always though he could have being a good wide-midfielder, but he was bent on been a target striker too much, he wasn’t the best goalscorer

Oh no! What is AW doing? Aliadere was never any good, and since he left he never did anything good. Say no to Aliadere.

Is this an early April’s fools’ joke? Aliadiere at Arsenal? You mean all the young English lads that Wenger has discarded without even a second thought and he gives this Frenchman a second chance? Is he going to put him on 50k a week wages too? If this guy gets in the first team next year, it will confirm that he has something on Wenger.

If he JA can prove some sort of worth why not? I am not sure he is any worse than Sunu, Murphy, Watt, Deacon. However, if we could use him in the reserves to see if he can be a useful versatile member of the squad then fine, but not as the cost free expense of bringing him in as a replacement for Bendtner, Vela, Chamakh or whoever leaves in the summer.

I see no point in signing him next season but it’s a good signing for the reserves.
He needs playing time and we have a shed load of players on loan so it works nicely.

I like the guy but, much like Bendtner, Denilson and Diaby after him; he’s had his chances and fluffed a majority of them.

I would give hima contract till the end of the season, maybe some of the youngsters can learn from him and show how your career can go down the shitter pretty damn fast and to make the most of it…….You never know the lad could have a second coming and may grab this chance with both hands…..who would have thought a year a go we would be re-signing the Sol Man? not me I am not putting jezza in the same quality bracket at Sol but maybe he might realise its his only chance to ever be in the big time………I doubt it but I also didnt think Sol and the mad german wouild resign so you never know

amaury bischoff wasnt a gamble,he come for free on small wage for 1 year contract.he was very higly rated by werder and other club but his problem was and still is his injury who make rosicky look like the fittest footballer.

Bischoff was a gamble (in Wenger’s own words), but he wasn’t a costly one. If he came good, great, if he didn’t, no loss. Not the kind of thing you could ever blame Wenger for.

If someone gets a 3 match ban in the reserves, does that mean he is also banned from the first team as well?

you shouldn’t slag off somebody’s dreams like that. he has every right to try to impress the Boss. he was loyal to arsenal for 9 years, that must count for something.

the Boss will decide whether to give him another chance. it is very, very unlikely, but maybe an older aliadiere is much more mature and reliable.

the Boss is best placed to make that decision.
