Arsenal Offer Parkinson Scouting Role

Arsenal have offered former Charlton Athletic manager Phil Parkinson a scouting position, Young Guns understands. The 43-year-old is now poised to join Steve Rowley’s famed network of talent seekers.

Parkinson has been out of work for just over two months, after being sacked by Charlton in January. He formerly held managerial positions at Colchester United and Hull City, where he was regarded as a promising young manager. However, despite receiving a number of others offers, he remains without a club.

The retired holding midfielder has a large number of contacts throughout England, especially in the North. Parkinson’s roles are expected to include scouting Academy players from clubs in the North East, with the likes of Andy Carroll and Adam Johnson all emerging from there in recent years.

His extensive knowledge of the football league will also be a key asset.

More information on Parkinson’s role is expected shortly.

Good job if he wants it. What are the odds on Steve Rowley leaving for a new challenge at Chelsea in the Summer though? Do you happen to have any news on whether it is likely given all the rumours??

i totally agree with you 4 example when arsenal and chelsea were wetting their pants over denilson and obi mikel they ignored the ‘kenyan vieira’ known as macdolnald mariga. if arsenal had signed this guy at 17 and loaned him to some european club then he would be in the first team.

@ kingofbhutan, are you trying to say Arsenal werent aware of Mariga because i doubt that. Issue with him is finding a good loan move where he would get games because of work permitt issues plus African Nations Cup every 2 years. You need exceptional player for that all those issues to be ignored for the player to be signed. While I think Mariga is very good talent, he aint exceptional

to supergunner i would have mariga over song, diaby, denilson, obi mikel any day of the week.hes a tall version of essien and very adaptable.and so you rate denilson as exceptional, reality is if arsenal want to part with him in the summer they will not find a PL club willing to take him and might have to send him to brazil on loan.

well first for african player you need visas, for getting a visas you need to be very good palyer from a very good natinal team in the FIFA ranking so Mariga wouldnt have got a visas.
and dont worry wenger would have know about him ,he know more african football than most manager ( weah, ikpeba, simba, toure brother…)but for move to england is very difficult because of visas

what abu th 50km scouting zone? I thought we couldn’t sign players who live outside of our 50km radius, which, if the case, precludes the need for a scout up norf.

I’m very surprised such an experienced manager would accept a scouting role…would be a great addition nevertheless.
