Dallas Cup: Arsenal 3-1 Club Bolivar

Arsenal wrapped up the group stages of the Dallas Cup with a 3-1 win over Club Bolívar this morning. A brace from Roarie Deacon sandwiched between a Luke Freeman strike saw the Gunners continue their winning ways ahead of a semi-final against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Neil Banfield and Steve Bould resisted the opportunity to rest players ahead of that crunch game, although Jordon Wynter did come into the midfield for his first start of the competition.

ARSENAL: Martínez; Rees, Boateng, Angha, Brislen-Hall; Frimpong, Wynter; Deacon, Özyakup, Henderson, Freeman.

The Gunners were once again slow to get going, and following on from the example The Dallas Texans showed on Monday, Bolívar grabbed themselves an early lead. Emi Martínez was left stranded as a powerful shot deflected off an Arsenal leg and flew into the goal. 1-0.

If starting slow was a trait Arsenal had had acquired, so was quick come backs. Luke Freeman burst clear of the Bolívar defence and rounded the ‘keeper to level the scores, moments after falling behind. 1-1, but they weren’t finished there. On 34 minutes Roarie Deacon turned home from close range after a spilled cross to make it 2-1, and the group leaders headed into the break in front.

A host of half time substitutions combined with solid defending disrupted the flow in the second half, but the Bolivians resilience was finally broken 15 minutes from time. Deacon took a deep cross down on his chest expertly, before cutting inside and lashing his second and Arsenal’s third. 3-1.

The full time whistle brought to an end what had been a solid work out, but for Arsenal, the tournament favourites move on to the semi-final, live on Fox Soccer TV.

I had no idea but apparently only the group winners advance to the finals, if that’s true then Barca are eliminated! so much for their youth system… unless of course the Fc Dallas academy is any good…

Barca youth will be embarrassed, but the first game would have been difficult: jet lagged against an aggressive home team with a lot of quality.

The Frankfurt team Arsenal face in the semi’s has cruised it’s group almost as easily as the Arse. Could be a real test for the club.

Was at the game, I hate to say this but the wrost player on the field was Frimpong. He looked terrible, after that performance there is no way I can see him making the first team, it got to the point where people were booing him at the end of the game. Freemens goal was a good take, and Deacon’s touch is top class.

Yep, the young gunners have 14 goals so far in the Dallas Cup, I believe. I went to the game tonight (here in Dallas). It was awesome to see some form of Arsenal in person. Hopefully they’ll make it to the final on Sunday. Would love to see them play for a trophy!

Freeman seems to have stepped up a level the last few months, I think the stint at Yeovil might have helped in some ways but the style of football in that league didnt suit him at all, maybe a loan to a Championship team next season as he seem to be able to play wide and create/score goals on a regular basis……something which some of our first team players seem to struggle with, not that I am saying he is ready for first team football at Arsenal but maybe in a season or so

They are keeping the squad involved and fresh with all but Jamie Edge playing some part in 2 of the 3 games.

I like how they start the same front 4 – Deacon, Henderson, Ozyakup & Freeman in each game. (Ozyakup has dropped back into holding role when Rees played vs Chorrillo)

One thing I wonder is Hajrovic the only natural right back coming through the academy?

Hajrovic isn’t even a natural RB but a central defender.

watched the first half of the game, my first time watching the young uns, live in flesh. 1st observation, was Damian Martinez is a tall gkeeper…looks like thats one of the qualities Arsene likes in his keepers.

2)with one game its really hard to judge who is going to be really special at youth level,so in all honestly it shows how difficult a job and how well of a Job Arsenal have done.
3)Freeman was easily the most impressive, he is small but while on Tv that usually looks as a disadvantage,it actually makes him a handful, too unpredictable for defenders to figure out.Ozzy had a quiet first half,Frimpong still gaining his Fitness,Henderson is above this level.
4)was most impressed with Deacon though, could easily fit in La Masia, has all the basics right, looks up,drifts into space, lots of movement.

5)was most surprised by Rees and Angha…Rees is a phenomenal athlete, would have loved to see him against bigger opponents, Angha played central defence, might be the younger of the bunch but, plays like the leader of the team

I think frimpong has missed his chance.

I think he will end up liike fabrice muamba at bolton.

Josh rees i like him alot but arsenal seem to be using him everywhere right back, right midfielders, central midfield.

Give the kid a position hes a very initeligent footballer.

I think he could be a really good right back.

Luke freeman i have always said his an Arsenal player.

Hes got everything and hes got initelgence, work rate.

Not convinced by martin angha. I prefer elton montiero from what i have seen from him at the arsenal under 18s. Cant believe hes 6ft6 and hes only 16. He could grow taller lol he could be 7ft by the tim hes 20,21

Fox soccer tv live stream i think you can find it o the dallas cup website too. It’s blocked in some countries so if you live in England you won’t be able to see it.
Js said on twitter that you can trick fox sports into thinking you live somewhere else but i don’t know how to do that, you should ask him.
I expect him to put the link on twitter later on

    Elton monteiro is 6ft 6

Martin Angha is 6ft 3 he’s a liability gooners just watch highlights of the arsenal under 18s he can’t defend simple long balls.

He looks more like a midfielder or full back to me.
