Loanees: Vela Assists As Afobe Stars

Welcome to this weekends loanees watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium. You can read all the latest reports below.

Carlos Vela played the full 90 minutes as West Brom drew 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur. Vela began on the left wing, and assisted the opener, crossing for Peter Odemwingie to score. The Mexican showed some neat touches in the wide areas, and is set to continue in that role in the coming weeks.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas came off the bench to play the final 13 minutes of Cardiff City’s 2-2 draw with Queens Park Rangers. Emmanuel-Thomas played out the closing stages of the game on the right wing, but struggled to get involved.

Henri Lansbury came off the bench to play the final 14 minutes of Norwich City’s 5-1 win over Ipswich Town. The midfielder had little to do after coming on, but did work a great chance for Andrew Surman, only for his volley to fly inches over the bar.

Vito Mannone started and played 45 minutes of Hull City’s 4-2 defeat to Middlesbrough. Mannone was withdrawn at half time after suffering a re-occurance of a long standing shoulder injury.

Sanchez Watt came off the bench to play the final 9 minutes of Leeds United’s 0-0 draw against Reading. Watt almost scored the winner in the closing stages of the game, when he flicked the ball past Alex McCarthy, only for him to poke the follow up wide. It was his first appearance after returning from a number of knocks.

Craig Eastmond was not included in the Millwall squad that beat Preston North End 4-0.

Benik Afobe played 76 minutes as Huddersfield Town beat The MK Dons 3-1. Afobe turned in another Man of the Match display, which included winning a late penalty. Benik asked to take it, but was refused by Scott Arfield who missed.

Mark Randall was an unused substitute as Rotherham United drew 2-2 with Northampton Town.

Ryo Miyaichi played the full 90 minutes as Feyenoord beat PSV 3-1. Miyaichi showed some bright early touches, but found it difficult to be involved late on, as he was double marked.

Francis Coquelin started and played 85 minutes as Lorient drew 1-1 with Lille. Coquelin played on the right of midfield, and turned in an impressive shift. After a quiet first half, he made an impression in the second, making several key tackles and stamping out the threat of reported Arsenal-target Eden Hazard. Gilles Sunu was an unused substitute.

Armand Traoré was an unused substitute as Juventus drew 2-2 with Catania.

Wellington Silva was not included in the Levante side that lost 4-1 to Atletico Madrid.

Pedro Botelho played the full 90 minutes as FC Cartagena drew 1-1 with Real Valladolid. Botelho returned after suspension to play the whole game at left back, although did cause danger in attacking areas, delivering a handful of crosses from the wing.

Samuel Galindo was a stoppage time substitute as UD Salamanca beat Girona FC 1-0. Galindo came off the bench in the 92nd minute, as The Union looked to run the clock down.

why don’t you take a look yourself instead of reading some reports? I saw the game with Coq and he was impressive. He played RB and was looking good as hell. For sure a future player for Arsenal. Afobe is the next wilshere in 1,5 year. VERY VERY impressive. Remember just 18 years.

How do you work that one out? Ryo Myaichi is becoming so good he has to be double marked, Coquelin was able to keep Hazard quiet which is no small task, Botelho is getting games and Vela is slowly making an impact at WBA. I’d say that they’re not doing too badly. Most of the others part from Lansbury will probably be moved on anyway.

Argonout you think JET should go to feyonord or Ajax nest season?

I think it will make him the complete player. Dutch coaches know how to work with skilfull players, they wont restrict his skilful side as in the championship. CArdiff play long balls alot and that just not his main game.

Plus because the dutch league is not as defensivly suited as the championship he would score a ton of goals, giving his proper confidence.

No future for Randall and Eastmond it seems. Wellington needs to sort himself out. Traore will obviously find it hard to break into a team with Juve’s stature and it’s just shown Ryo’s progress that he’s already being double marked !
Vela might have a future after all

I’d probably add Mannone to that list if his shoulder injury persists. We don’t need another player in the squad that has persistent injury problems.

Wellington has an attitude problem. Unless he sorts himself out, he won’t play much of a part in Arsenal’s future either. JET is another one that isn’t having a huge impact for all his hype. He’ll end up on loan for another year.

Is Botelho’s arrival a certainity for next season?? If yes then can he be the answer for our left wing?? (given that he seems equally adept at both left back and left wing)

He’s not “the answer”, merely “an option”.

If contract talks with Clichy have broken down, then Botelho might come in on that left side to provide competition for Gibbs.

The first team squad should be bolstered by Botelho, Coquelin, Lansbury and Vela’s return. An alternative to the Denilson/Diaby rotation we have now.

I cannot see the logic in bringing Vela back and putting him in the first team squad because he has done next to nothing while he has been at Arsenal and has continued that pattern while on loan at WBA

I agree he’s never going to be as good as we all hoped he was but in reality he is the only person in our team with any real place. For that option alone I think he’s worth having. Even players like Messi fear him as you can hit teams on the break with him in the side.

Coquelin is one of those players who never gives up, battles, fights for every ball.

A bit like lansbury, wilshere, ramsey.

We need more of those types rather than your nasri type players.

Ie cocky, swag, think they are top dog.

Samir nasri is a cocky little swine who wants more than 100k a week. Who does the kid think he is?

Hes had one good month and thats it. I hope we get rid and buy a proper left winger who can dribble past players, get crosses in, create chances and be direct towards the full back score goals.

Nasri is like denilson passes the ball backwards and sideways

One good month? He was voted player of the month three times this year, so which month did you have in mind? If I had the season he just had, I’d be expecting 100K quid a week too. He has tailed off a bit the last couple weeks, but he has still been our most consistent player this year, by a mile.

John ,who told you Nasri wants more than 100k a month ? Was it in a conversation you had with Arsene or was Nasri’s agent ? :) Or maybe ….you read it in a newspaper .You did didnt you .you rascal.

I don’t get the impression that ramsey is one of those who fights to the end etc etc, like wilshere.
Not to say he’s a poor player, but I don’t see that kind of energy from him.
You’re so wrong on nasri, it’s not even funny. He fights for the whole game. Yesterday he was everywhere, but lacked his usual composure and wasn’t as effective as he can be. His close control is obviously incredible, easily the best in our squad now, and his movement up front is getting better by the game. I think we need to switch the tactics a bit, with him as a left midfielder in a 4-4-2 formation so we can get a bit more protection for the fullbacks, and so we could get the best from walcott or vela up front with van persie or bendtner.

It would seem the only one with potential in terms of next season is lansbury-but does he have the necessary quality? I know wilshere is special but he was being started by an established premier league side whereas lansbury is still finding himself on the bench of a championship team…seems a big ask to hope he will come straight into first team contention.

As for the likes of wellington, i hope we dont give him a massive contract and wait forever in the vain hope that he turns himself around like we have with vela. If a footballer hasnt got the brains to sort himself out when given an opportunity like the one arsenal have given him then he will never make the top grade

Several players have moved past Lansbury potential-wise. Over-hyped because he is English.

Lansbury isnt starting games for Norwich at present .Is this an indication that his early promise hasnt continued ? I cant see how he would break into the Arsenal 1st team next season if he cant hold down a regular spot in the starting line up at Norwich.

Watched Feyornod game, they were impressive, they have some good players aswell as Myiachi.

I am not quite sure how good some of these players are though because dutch defenses look really weak seeing stupid goals are conceeded.

I also remeber Kyut and Kezman were 30 goals a season men in dutch football, but then you have Van Nistolroy and Klivert.

all in all it makes for a good league to watch, Arsenal should send some English players over.

Next season I’d hope to see Afobe eased into the first team like Bojan was at 17. He’s done very well on loan. Maybe Lansbury might have a shout, but all the others need more loan time. Randall, Eastmond, Watt, Traore need to go and Vela isn’t better than Afobe so we might as well cash in on him and the rest of our first team dead-wood.

heard something about pato’s contract we should sign him up if cesc leaves.by far one of the worst week for arsenal.yesterday even djouru looked pathatic.we need good defenders bt look @ the forwards, dont think arsenal will miss cesc that much if he leaves, cause he’s not done much.coming to the lonees it seems only lansbury, rio & coquelin will be in arsenal’s radar cause botelho will need experience in the top flight & with wenger @ the end of the thither he’ll not provide many chances for the youngsters.

Imo the fact that Wenger stated in the last couple of days that Wilshere can be ‘the hub of the Arsenal team’ he thinks Cesc is determined to leave this summer or certainly in the near future.I wouldnt be too disheartened by this. Cesc although playing well ,certainly hasnt been as impressive this season due to injury disruption and perhaps having his mind elsewhere.

Good performance from coquelin and afobe as well as lansbury because he always make an impact whether he start or come as a substitude as for botelho nice to see him play after coming back from suspension as for miyachi he is been double mark they are afraid of his treat haha.. That will only help him improve as a player because he is an intelligent boy so all the player i mention above are the once that i am sure they will have a chance in the first team either next session or in the near future because of their performance and as for vela he need to try to be a regular player at westbrom and not a substitude like he does at arsenal then from there his performance will determine whether he can make it or not as for mannone he is an excellent keeper but he need to be consitant because his injuries can affect his first team chance as for wellington he need a change of club either to go to another spanish club or go to holland because you can not say he is not a good player because he has not get his chance and fail to perform well.

40 mill for Fab would be good business .Spend the money on a top central defender to play alongside Vermalen , someone with true leadership quality and commanding presence.Without doubt Arsenal need a true leader of men at the back. There must be someone to fit that bill.

I watched the Feyenoord vs PSV game. Was excited to see Ryo come up against a good team. While he showed flashes and his talent was there to see, I came away extremely impressed with De Vrij, Fer and Wjinaldum. De Vrij is quality. Extremely confident on the ball. Fer reminded me of Vieira and Wjinaldum is simply quality. Also, in a time of negativity that surrounds Arsenal, it was refreshing to see the Feyenoord fans who are simply outstanding.

If fab and RVP bugger off the club is in big trouble. There simply isn’t a reserve / youth team player that can immediately fill those boots.. AW has a lot of dead wood to clear in the summer from all tiers at the club..

I watched the Feyenoord game aswell and I was very impressed with de Vrij, I think he is a real possibility as a signing since we are keeping tabs on Miyaichi and we are already linked with him. I’d love to see him play alongside Vermaelan next season, and he wont break the bank either, so hes a real possibility.

i cant believe all the people saying we should get rid of cesc. He’s a fantastic player as we all know, fair enough he hasn’t been at his best this season but look at how poor we’ve played when he hasn’t been in the team? He keeps the ball well and seems to have a great link with RVP and i think there was a stat earlier this year (as in 2011) that he creates the a goal scoring chance every 30 something minutes, which was the best in the world. At 23 whilst i don’t think he has too much room to improve technically he still has a lot to offer, and is one of the best players in the world, top 15 i think at least. Getting rid of him would not be beneficial at all.

Didn’t Kieran Gibbs play only 7 games in 5 months on loan at Norwich and then the following season move up to the first team squad.
I wouldn’t pay too much attention to how well a player is playing as a indicator to whether they make it.

Seen the Feyenoord-PSV game and Ryo was excellent in the first half. he went past his man a lot. When they started double marking it gave room for other players to make their mark.
He should have scored late on but the keeper could save his attempt.
I think we could be loaning a few players to Feynoord maybe next season. They are in financial trouble so cant really buy players and will be happy to loan young players I think.
