Henderson & Miquel Included For Aston Villa

Arsène Wenger has penciled in Conor Henderson and Ignasi Miquel for places in the squad ahead of Arsenal’s final home game of the season against Aston Villa.

The duo made their debuts in the FA Cup replay against Leyton Orient in March, where both started and turned in solid shifts in a 5-0 victory. Wenger has since selected them for a number of training sessions with the first-team, and, following a selection of injuries, the Frenchman has no qualms about rewarding their hard work with places on the bench.

Cesc Fàbregas and Samir Nasri will have late fitness tests, but even if they pass, Henderson and Miquel should still make up the squad.

Nice to see both included, but unfortunately I don’t see either of them making it at Arsenal.

Although I really thought Miquel did well on his two starts in the FA Cup, he looked very comfortable on the ball. But after watching him in the reserves, he needs to improve on his concentration and general defending, made way too many mistakes. Maybe a loan spell next season could really help him but with Bartley in front of him it’s going to be hard.

As for Henderson, I thought he did okay but Arsenal have so many players who can play in that midfield three. I won’t list them all but we have such an abundance that you really have to be special to have any chance.

I think Wenger should make way for henderson only because of his style of passing! He attempts, gives steep long balls just like gerrard and with some accuracy and I think Wenger won’t sell that kind of dimension!

He is Natural when it comes to passing!

Nice to see Wenger looking at his options lower down the team, with views of next season. Hopefully Henderson can show enough to leapfrog Denilson in the pile of midfielders we have at the club, thus leaving Wenger no option but to sell him. I’m not anti-Denilson but still think he’s simply not good enough for Arsenal, he hasnt progressed since that Carling Cup campaign of 2007…I hope Henderson starts 2moro,especially if their is doubts over Nasri’s fitness.

well the plan of playing either of them went to shit didn’t it! Squillaci surely can’t be better than Miquel, then again playing 2 left footers woulda been a poor idea

    dude!
a player did well with the first team but lost concentration in the reserves is not good enough?
because arsenal fc dont really take reserve games seriously thats why most of our players are out on loan.
as for bartley being ahead of him, you wish so because he’s english but please let arsene decides. personally i wish they could cut down on loaning so many players and take reserve league seriously coz most of them did not get enough playing time. again, its up to arsene to decide.

Miquel gets destroyed when playing against anyone with a little pace. He probably won’t make it at Arsenal. Henderson is a good player, but as someone mentioned, we already have 4868604 midfielders trying to play in three spots.

Tony adams is the best ever arsenal defender and never had pace. most tall defenders are slow anyway(hangerland, samba, mertersaker) i dont know what you guys talking about.
Although pace is a plus for a defender, the ability to read games is more important.
if arsene is still keeping miguel at arsenal we shouldnt rule him out.

Give Miquel time, I would say two seasons away on loan in the championship. Maybe at West Ham, or Leeds.

I see Wenger has persuaded Pat Rice to stay for one more year. I’m not sure if thats a good thing or not. I personally think its time to bring in some fresh ideas to the team for next season.

Who in the squad are they replacing? Could this be more a sign of some established players being sold than giving youngsters a chance? Denilson has been mentioned but hasn’t been in the last few squads. However for the two lads to come in they would be taking the place of probobly two of Squillachi, Eboue and Rosicky. Would being dropped out of the squad imply that thier futures lie elsewhere? Or maybe I am just looking too deeply into it.

Just look at jay emmanuel thomas looks awful for cardiff city.

Cant cope with the pressure and doesnt have the attitude.

Judging players in reserves its very hard.

From what i have seen Miquel has been playing next to a donkey in Daneil boateng whos is prone to making mistakes.

Miquel i think with better players would play better in my opinion.

Especially in defence where its a collective thing.

As for henderson i think the quality is there hes inconsistent.

But hes got a good attitude when things arent going is way. He doesnt drop his head.

That desire, attitude is another thing arsenal players must have if they want to break through.

LIke miquel i think both are good enough they have quality and that attitude that someone like jay emmaneul thomas hasnt got

Henderson looks good in the reserve because he is not put under big pressure. The intensity of reserve football bears no resemblance with the game played in the first team. Every loanees mentioned that playing in the first team at lower league was a culture shock. Henderson is good technically however he does not have the speed of thought that Fabregas, Nasri, Wilshere have.
Being very good technically is a prerequisite to play in Arsene Wenger team, but it is not enough. IMHO Henderson career will go a la Sidwell: good but not good enough.
Also looking at Wenger latest buy, it was dribblers and winger. Henderson is a passer and we have too many elegant player.

Miquel needs to go on loan for a season to prove himself. His distribution is very good. He read the game very well. The only question is whether he can handle the physical element of the game.

This could be their last outing if they do not do well. They will really have to give it their best shot if they are to get regular first team call-ups.Personally,I don’t think either have it in them to become world class players.Although they will make it at Arsenal(this has always been the case hasn’t it!)

Nice to see two “young guns” in the squad for tomorrow, but both are unlikely to get any play unless we are in a comfortable position in the second half.

Clinching an automatic CL place is important to ensure our preseason preparations are as smooth as possible, esp. with a likely international tour.

As mentioned above, Bartley is ahead of Miquel, and Henderson needs a run of games to improve his consistency, so loans look like the obvious path for both players next season.

Personaly I feel 3rd place is a must before giving players a run out especialy with Internationals scheduled around the opening fixtures of the EPL next season we do not want a tired team after 9 or 10 games with all the extra fixtures if we finish 4th.

On a side note if Benik Afobes loan had finished with Huddersfield, I would have been more excited to see him start a match before the season had finished.

Many of you are suggesting both players need a season on loan. Maybe the purpose of today is to reward them for hard work and progression at Arsenal and to also put them in the “shop window” for other managers. Even if they don’t get onto the pitch it will show that Wenger rates them – powerful sales pitch. I agree that Bartley would come back while Miquel goes away for a year, it’s the natural pathway

Not so sure that bartley is considered by wenger to be better than Miquel. When has he ever thought like the rest of us? I mean this is a man that has persevered with the likes of denilson silvestre grimandi luzhny Almunia when the watching millions could see there was better options.

Both miquel and henderson are good players and in aspect of talent they have the talent so a loan move to the championship will do them a lot of good and that will help them know what it takes to play in the first team and adapt to the pressure as well as physical aspect of the game so if they are to break into the first team, they need all this to improve tremidiously like many have said we have too many young defensive midfieder so if henderson is to break into the first team he need to improve greatly because had it been he play on the wings it could have been easier but he is a passer of the ball as for miquel he may face the same challenge as henderson but i think his own will be bit easier to that of henderson but he need a loan move to make all his mistake there and improve to come back as a great player also for all those who say they can’t make it, i don’t believe in that you can never say never.

JS – Abs disgrace and this is the last time i read your blog. been reading this for years and supporting you now you cant say what other people think in fear that some dont like it. Well if any of you have just wasted your money like i just have you will know why wenger needs to be removed. We cant keep blaming the likes of almunia, eboue, rosicky, denilson and diaby, they were not even playing and we still looked like shyte.

Why is Wenger going after Leighton Baines , we already got the best young left back in the country Gibbs and the promising Botelho can also play there. We should be going after Rodwell for a similar amount of money Rodwell is the type of player that wins you league championships that was apparent the first time he ever played for Everton first team as for Baines he won’t make a jot of difference to the team only to Wenger’s budget.

Well it looks as if Clichy may leave, and by the showing of the last few matches it seems that Gibbs is not quite there. I think he will be a top left back in the future for Arsenal and England, but maybe not quite yet.

As for Baines I think he is a brilliant left back, defensivly and offensivly. He has after Fabregas the most assists of any player in the last 3 seasons of the prem. He score many more goals than Clichy does, a better crosser and free kick specialist aswell. Great character.

Saying all that I still think we should not be spending 15-20mil on him. I also think that he is pretty young which means that Gibbs will be hampered. We need a LB who is around 30years to bring Gibbs on in training.
