Loanees: Afobe Bags A Brace As Sunu Assists

Welcome to this weekends loanees watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium. You can read all the latest reports below.

Carlos Vela started and played 75 minutes of West Brom’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa. Vela played the whole game on the right of a five man midfield, but did have two good chances to score on the left side of the pitch. The first he chipped over the bar from close range, and the second a free-kick that looped onto the roof of the net.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was not in action this weekend, as Cardiff City play on Monday.

Henri Lansbury was not in action this weekend, as Norwich City play on Monday.

Vito Mannone missed Hull City’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace through injury.

Sanchez Watt came off the bench to play the final minute of Leeds United’s 1-0 win over Burnley. Watt almost scored with his first involvement, after he cut in from the right, but his shot from close range hit the side netting.

Craig Eastmond has now returned to Arsenal from his loan spell at Millwall after breaking his ankle.

Benik Afobe played the full 90 minutes in Huddersfield Town’s 3-2 win over Brighton. Afobe opened the scoring with a brilliant turn and shot inside the box, before putting them ahead again in the second half with another smart finish. Brighton equalised once more, but Afobe layed the ball off for Danny Ward to grab a late winner. Benik claimed the Man of the Match award, his fourth in four games.

Mark Randall was an unused substitute as Rotherham drew 2-2 with Aldershot Town.

Ryo Miyaichi missed Feyenoord 3-2 defeat to VVV-Venlo through illness.

Francis Coquelin started and played 69 minutes of Lorient’s 3-2 win over Lens. Coquelin was replaced by fellow Arsenal-loanee Gilles Sunu, and Sunu would go on to assist Kevin Gameiro’s second goal, rounding the ‘keeper and crossing from a tight angle.

Armand Traoré was not in action this weekend, as Juventus play on Monday.

Wellington Silva missed Levante’s game with Sporting Gijon through illness.

Pedro Botelho started and played 61 minutes of FC Cartagena’s 2-1 win over Albacete. Botelho continued at left back, but was replaced late on after picking up a knock.

Samuel Galindo was an unused substitute as UD Salamanca beat Elche 5-4.

The emirates is not a plce to plan your evening meals! wheress the passion!? Arsenal fans should HVE to go 2 an away game b4 they can purchase home tickets to see real passion

Afobe is on a sizzling streak of form, it’s a shame the season isn’t a bit longer for him to keep it going. Still, he’s going to probably be in the play-offs and maybe play at Wembley. For Hudds to be promoted and Afobe to spend another season with them in the Championship would be ideal. Keep it up Benik!

Afobe is really kicking on now; too good for League One. If Huddersfield do not win promotion, he needs to go to another Championship side. Wouldn’t it be great if he could cut it for Bolton or some smaller Prem team next year?

you see in the utd match today, although i felt ramsey did well in his defensive play and goal, i just feel like a few other players, he just walks around when our team has the ball. if you don’t have the ball you should be getting into a space – thats why we have lost the ability we had three seasons ago in keeping the ball.

Benik afobe has been performing well, a loan to championship or premier league next season will do him a lot of good also he can spend half a session in the championship and the other half in the premier league because for me he need only one session on loan which is next session to start getting his chance in the first team as for vela he is trying now so once he get more chance to start playing regularly and start scoring goal then he can now have a future with arsenal as for miyachi i wish him quick recovery i know that the coach, the fans, and his team mate miss him including me too.

Whats the deal with Afobe, will he be loaned back out next season or be the fourth striker?

I think he could be an impact sub for us next season, although this means he may not play as much. Which could meann that he should get one more year out.

i was thinking the same thing, why do people want him to go out on loan again?
why not sub bench next season? he could grab the opportunity and shine.
loaning players out also can have negative impact on a player he doesnt get games.

Just watched the Football league show highlights. There is a million miles between where Afobe is playing now and the premiership. The championship is where he’ll get games next year and continue to develop. Really happy for him, but his breakthrough season (like Sturridge and Wellbeck this season; Wilshere last season) is still two years away at least. No pressure; it’ll come.

Galindo’s loan can’t be said to be a failure because he was hurt 95% of the season so he is just getting back on his feet. Once He gets his fitness back and is ready to go he will be quite impressive. Afobe will be good but could use some more time away. Can’t wait for Miyaichi to be with us next year

there was times when the fans got tense the players did to, you dont know how much each and every persons attitude towards the game affects the players, im not railing on everyone but we’re quick to cheer the oles but not so much helping a player who miss places a pass, or when the extra bit encouragement is needed. yes there are times when the players and management have let us down, but as fans we all have parts to play.

We have followed Arsenal up and down the country for the past 6 years and the players have let us down, and our support will continue for many seasons to come, yes there are some odd groans when a misplaced pass is made, but at the end of the day the players know when theyve fucked up and dont need us to tell them, we get nervous watching them because we know our defence has been weak and could concede at any time, our lack of defensive capabilities has made the fans nervous

I thought the team did brill today. they played well and they defended very well against some good Strikers. Whatever the problem for this team is its not the defence at Emritates. Last goal let in in open play was when? the offside goal of Saha against Everton in February!

I’m a Brighton fan and in Afobe you have an awesome talent. He’s been the game changer both times we’ve played Huddersfield this season.
If Arsenal are looking to give him a season in the championship i’d love to see him in a Brighton shirt

I´m sorry for Eastmond, I really hope that he can recover soon…. but Wenger has to get rid of him, Hoyte, Randall, Watt, Sunu and Vela…. there are a lot of young players that are not good enough for Arsenal and they have been proving that this season while they were on loan

Not sure why the Loanee report wasn’t delayed till Monday to include the other 3 player reports? Also because Eastmond is having an operation on his fibula, it looks like a break and displacement. He is looking at 6 months out unfortunately.

Afobe is overated, he’s just like Darren Bent, a goal hanger……..

Nah not really different John. Afobe is has real potential, he’s really developed physically over the last two years and it shows.

I got my first Wilshere shirt 4 years ago and never shut up teling my friends he’ll be as big as Rooney, and I’ve been saying WS is the best goalkeeper at the club for 2 and a half years now. I believe I’m a good judge of talent.

WS and JW were always going to be stars, those two are different class, world class youngsters like Fab and Casillas.

Re: Afobe he’s definately going to be a premiership player of that there’s no doubt. Whether he’s going to kick on a be a starting striker for a big club I’m not sure yet. I still think Chucks Aneke is a better prospect, he has unbelievable talent and crucially he’s a cutting edge player, the difference between fannying around and creating chances.

Lansbury is decent and would make a good squad player when he comes back. Frimpong too has more about him than a Denilson. Obviously Gibbs is here too. It will be nice to see in years to come a solid base of genuine acadamy kids in the squad.

You can forget about Miguel, and Henderson for me. It’s all about the boys from the golden generation (in which I would include Coquelin and JET as still possible Arsenal players).

BUT Wenger needs to make space for them so as not to “kill” there careers here. And to do that he needs to ship out some of his favourites/mistakes/past their besters.

    Bye to:
    Almunia
    Traore
    Clichy
    Squilachi
    Eboue
    Denilson
    Rosicky
    Arshavin
    Bendtner
    Chamack

For me they would be replaced by internally promotions (inc Vela and Diaby who would be in last chance saloon next season for me, and Miyaichi) and 3-4 key signings.

Sakho, believe me top notch, just pay the cash he will be worth it. Hazard, again top top prospect. Benzema, would thrive at Arsenal. 3 players we don’t want to miss out on and they can be got this summer. In another year they might be out of our reach.

If we loose Fabregas or Nasri I would use the extra cash to get Subotic and M’Vila.

I imagine that JET won’t get a game today because of Cardiff having too many loan players. It’s ridiculous to think they didn’t realise this, or if they did they should never have been given the chance to loan him. He needs a consistent run of games to prove himself.

JET can man up and get a run of games next year. Just like all these kids on loan. It’s not down to the loan club to meet him even half way. He’s got to make it impossible for the manager not to pick him. If you start telling young players that they are bigger than their loan club you are creating a whole host of problems. The only thing “wrong” with a loan is if the player doesn’t fit any of the manager’s tactical schemes – like Vela and WBA under Hodgson. Even then, the loan player has to work hard to be good enough that the manager will shift things around to accommodate the talent. Which is what Vela seems to have done up there. That’s my opinion anyway.

Just an idea Mr Sanderson but any chance at the end of the season giving us all a full season round up on each loaned out youngster, with maybe chances of either
making a breakthrough or going out on loan again plus your opinion on what they need to still work on? Also at the game yesterday jack wilshere made an effort to come over to our stand and give his shirt to a hot little blonde girl sitting few seats away from
me,lovely gesture that he’s done a good few times this year but it did make me wonder..was he looking for her to tweet him so he could work his magic off the field?!good lad haha

Anyone who’s been to Highbury on the days of yore would say the fanbase has declined in giving support.

Most teams will be mostly cheered on when doing shit. Our “supporters” mostly only cheer when the team’s doing good. We only expect.
