Arsenal Agree Campbell Fee With Saprissa

Arsenal have agreed a fee with Saprissa for striker Joel Campbell, according to president Juan Carlos Rojas.

Richard Law has been in Costa Rica over the weekend holding talks over the 19-year-old, and a fee of around £930,000 has been agreed. The deal was confirmed by Rojas on ADN Radio last night, before the players father revealed he expected the transfer to go through before Monday.

Humberto Campbell also said his son had agreed on a five year contract, and would wear the number 12 shirt.

More to follow.

£930,000 sounds like a bargain. Would he qualify for a work permit or will Arsenal have to apply for a special talent visa?

Law arrived on the 15th deal done by the 17th now that’s how business needs to be done at AFC
We are still haggling Bolton for their 14m asking price of Cahill. Shamefull

Anways As for Campbell fanstastic signing for us especially considering the price. For people who have never seen him play just think of a young Henry. His game is almost identical to Henry

I saw him play against Bolivia and he played on the LW at least in the second half in the first they were a bit all over the place and he tore them apart

If he gets a work permit then Vela wont even start the Carling cup games

I think that is interesting how essentially the 2 sports that started off in England and were made in opposition of the other sport are the top 2 sports in the world.

Obviously American Football is just an upgraded version of rugby football and then of course Football (soccer) which has come along way from when it was first created.

So you guys think closing a deal for a unknown 1 million pound player is the same as closing a deal for a 17 million well known player? The logic is just silly. The well known player is going to have different demands where as the unknown kid is going to be pretty straight forward. There is also a big difference between a couple hundred thousand a several million pounds not to mention dealing with all the other clauses and things that go with expensive signings.

If he is taking 12, I wonder what number Gervinho will be taking and Myiachi if he can get a work permit? Almost isn’t there a rule you can only apply for one “special talent” work permit per year. If we were gonna use it on someone I would prefer Ryo than Campell to be honest. Either way, this has to be the quickest signing in the past decade under Wenger!

Why would you rather use it for Ryo? You have yet to even see Campbell play so for all you know Campbell could be twice the player of Ryo.

And aside from that, Ryo is not ready for the prem. He is weak and very predictable in his dribbling right now. With that being said, I think he is a quality talent but he just needs some time to become a polished player first.

Gervinho comfirmed on his twitter (fake?) that he’s going to wear number 9 and regarding Miyaichi, I think he would benefit from another loan spell even though I’m as excited as anyone to see him test himself in the Premier League.

Its looking like an exciting summer so far. We are back to doing our scouting thing and snapping up some unknown talent. We have increased the quality in our youth team. We already got 1 of the experienced players we needed in Gervinho. We are getting rid of some dead weight. The only think keeping it from being all positive is of course the Nasri situation but other then that, this is why I love Arsenal. This is when we are at our best.

i dont agree. I think if we only have 1 application for a special talent visa then it should go to campbell.

Ryo will get his chance when he is ready, its just not yet.

campbell looks like he could make an immidiate contribution to the arsenal strike force next season.

You can apply for one special talent visa per person, so if it is denied and your appeal fails you cannot apply again until the next year.

Even if the player’s circumstances change, i.e. more international caps etc.

Compliments to Saprissa as well if it is true they rejected larger deals to do business with Arsenal.

It shows both a longsighted approach to boosting the teams image and that of Costa Rican football, as well as the desire to help their youth by giving them chances in a team that gives youth a chance in a very tough league.

Here on CR they are saying that the juventus offer almost half a million(dollars)more but Campbell and Saprissa choose Arsenal for less. Also about his position he plays both wings sides and with the Sub 20 he plays the 10 spot but that’s because CR has no talent around him the 9 or left wing spot is where he shines the most.

Well, seems like a great signing. I believe his international caps might be helpful in securing a work permit. Also, the first team needs a backup striker, especially with chamakh and gervinho going to the acn in january.
Vela, bartley, lansbury and frimpong seem likely to break through this season, maybe campbell could add additional spark.

about LB or CDM, i think the same way as u but im afraid mr.wenger would listen. If ever he did, maybe he should buy new CB as well, lets say verthongthen or mertasacker

After a protracted negotiating process, Arsene Wenger has finally signed “Karim Benzema” for “27 million pounds”. Which is why i have consistently cautioned Arsenal fans to scale down their transfer expectations of “Mr. Profits – Wenger”. The next ” big signings” you Arsenal fans should expect are “Gary Cahill”, “Chris Samba” and “Juan Mata”. I hope one day Arsene Wenger turns up (in a navy-blue-suit) for a match at the Emirates and ralises he is in the stadium alone with his Board.
