Arsenal Begin Reserves Clear Out

Arsenal have begun the process of trimming their Reserve and Youth squad sizes ahead of the new season, with several young Gunners expected to leave the club in the coming weeks.

The tough decisions kick started last week, when Jamie Edge and Steven Smith were both released, with more to follow suit. Edge, a £200,000 signing from Cheltenham Town in 2009, struggled to develop his game with Steve Bould’s Under 18’s, and he joins Ireland Under 17 defender Smith in looking for a new club.

Arsenal are also prepared to listen to offers for Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Rhys Murphy, with the latter heading North for training with Middlesbrough this week. Boro’ have struggled to raise funds all summer, so should Murphy sufficiently impress, it’s likely he’ll only go loan.

Elsewhere, Dagenham & Redbridge are looking to sign James Shea on loan for next season, after he played for them in a trial game against Leyton Orient. Shea would provide competition for Daggers legend Tony Roberts, who will step up his role in coaching Arsenal’s Academy goalkeepers.

Mark Randall, Thomas Cruise and Roarie Deacon were all released earlier this summer.

Wellington did start against Club Brugge but did not score actually. It was Barkero.

1m for JET is pointless. The money isn’t a reason to sell him, he’s not on massive wages, he should be loaned out or given a chance at the club.

He has something that deserves the club pursuing further. At Arsenal since a kid and very talented, 1m isn’t much compared to the potential.

You must be kidding he is on £10k a week minimum. More like £15k I bet as he was considered a very very good talent.

We pay our kids way too much and we need to of load alot of these fringe players who are not of real top quality to free up cash elsewhere

I am surprised to see JET’s stock decrease in value so quickly over the past year. Is it a talent issue or a mental issue?

Maybe the only way he’ll get his act together is when Arsenal let him go, in which case wasting more time on him is pointless.

Just a few clarifications: Wellington started against Cercle Brugge (not club that is another team)

And then tonight Levante played against Lierse. And they play only 10 minutes away from where I live. If I would have known that then I would have been there tonight. F*ck…sorry.

Anyway Wellington opened the score in the first half for Levante and the final score was Lierse 2 – Levante 6. Wellington played the first half. In the second half a lot of new faces like in most pre season games

JET is on at least 15K /week which is far from being negligeable. That money could be use to give some of the first team a raise.
The deal is also likely to include a hefty sell-on clause. Remember when Bentley was sold to Spurs, Arsenal was entitled to 50% of the fee, the same happen when Fabrice Muamba was sold to Bolton by Birmingham.
That was also the reason why Birmingham did not wanted to sell Larson in January as most of the fee would have gone to Arsenal. It was not worth it for them.

Maybe the fact that Arsenal is willing to listen to offers for him will be the kick up the back side that he needs to smell that he is on his way to waste his talent in night clubs, boozy accidents. I can see future a la Pennant, except that he has a lot more of talent that Jermaine Pennant ever had.

Regarding Wellington, the change of coach seemed to have done him the world of good. Maybe with somebody who has a different approach to human relation.

This page from Levante’s official site talks about the match (in Spanish).
    http://es.levanteud.com/noticias/levante14123.html

The article mostly praises Rafa Jordà who scored a hat trick in the game, but it also gave good words for Wellington Silva as well.

Regarding Wellington, they basically said that the pace of Wellington (Weli) and Higón on the flanks was the decisive factor in attack as well as making it difficult for the local team to get forward from their own half.

We can spend that1m on joel campbell. jet has had plenty of opportunity on loan to impress but has failed to deliver. sure he has a talent but he is losing his way at arsenal and like many others is simply not at the level required. Like murphy watt and sunu he is so far down the attacking pecking order anyway that they will not be missed.

A loan would be the worst move. 90% of these loans are not to see how good these players are, it’s to hope they do well, bump their price up by a couple of million, sell them and provide a very welcome income stream for little expenditure.

Simpson, Stokes, Muamba, Larsson all succesful on loan, didn’t count for anything – the purpose was always to sell them. Song’s was a success, both Hoyte’s & Gibbs were not yet they ended staying for a couple of seasons or more after. Bendtner no better than the other 2 at Brum but that was always with the intention of him staying.

If we send him out on loan again a) he will hardly play – one weekend last season of our 12 loanees 11 never played and 1 came on as sub – and b) the decision on whether he will be staying has probably been made already.

The problem is no B team. There is a awkward gap between 17 and 22 where most are not ready for the first team but are to good for the youth team so our only option is to loan them which does not train them in the arsenal way and is really just about the luck of the draw.

Every young talent in any academy out to find themselves a good agent to represent their interest before signing their first contract with a club.

The youngster think because a club offers them their first contract the clubs have their best interest at heart. But the reality is clubs are only counting the potential monies they hope to earn off each individual player.

Young people see the carrot and buy into the false promises, but football academies are fast becoming a chicken farm. Even my team would have looked better had they off loaded some of the dead wood in our B team and given some of our best reserves a chance.

We know the model Arsenal has become is a money, money, money making intuition.

It was not until after the play off the JeT was branded a failure at Cardiff, because they lost! Check the records.

As I recall his very important goal got them to the play off, they even wanted to extend his loan deal with Arsenal. Check the records!

When the team lost the play offs, he took the blame for everything that went wrong. I recall the JeT played both for the First Team and their Reserves squad. Someone check the records. Was not Bellamy the BiG star they obtained to deliver them Premiership football? What happened? It shows it requires an entire team, putting in a team performance to stand a chance of winning any game. We Arsenal supporter ought to know that after six years of failure. Which individual player have we blamed, was it not the entire squad and the Manager?

For Arsenal he has always delivered!

His dream was to wear the Red & White and play for the first team. Look how we rewarded his years of service 10 min in one match and 15 mins in another. Imagine Gervinho given ten minutes in his first game, he would not have even touched the ball. Arsenal is callous.

It is no longer the home of football, but a place where dreams die.

What is the purpose of a loan spell? To gain vital experience it’s not that you develop into a superhero.

The best clubs negotiate playing time, positioning, areas of learning. Arsenal just farm them out to cut the wage bill down it appears!

Wenger has been signing too many kids and a reality check is needed. He wants his players to be technical. However in the epl, brawn and speed are needed beside technicalities.
By the way the whole squad is lopsided with too many attack minded players.Thatis why Arsenal will continue to lose to the top teams if they don’t bother about defence.

    Just a theory on JET

he does well for reserves, did well for Blackpool and rubbish for Cardiff.

similarities with arsenal reserves and blackpool is that both teams play quick passing football, whereas Cardiff play long ball and defensive football.

Just a theory that he may only be good in teams where he is not on the ball for long periods. At Blackpool it was a similar pass and move to what we play at Arsenal, whereas when I saw him for Cardiff he was running down the wing trying to beat players who were doubled up against him.. He had too much time to think of what to do on the ball.

Maybe he would do better at Arsenal than a team like Cardiff or West Ham.

Am, I am afraid that JET’s loan at Blackpool was not a success. His stint at Plymouth and Cardiff resulted in the same comments by the managers brilliant but very inconsistent and does not apply himself to the game.
When allegedly at Cardiff, he kept popping up in nightclubs in London.
Ian Holloway refused to extend its loan and said that he has to realise that his talent will only carry him so far.
At what point do you decide that he is not listening and is not worth keeping? I think that Arsene Wenger has made the decision.
When other players have tried to do extra work in holiday to come back fit and ready to impress in the pre-season, JET comes back unfit.
A couple of years ago, Lansbury, Frimpong, Wilshere asked to have the training centre open during summer so they could prepare the new season. Strangely enough despite being the captain of that team I pretty sure that JET was not one of those extra eager ones.
Arsene Wenger is ready to give his chance to Conor Henderson who IMHO has less talent than JET. That means that our coaches values team ethics and consistency above JET’s brilliance.

I expected a clear out at Arsenal at some point. With us wanting to buy up every wonderkid that becomes available around the world. We well know that is about a global fan base! But Team England needs to benefit likewise.

I would like to see a day when trainees start to become a little pro-active by approaching teams themselves to do their loan spell and not be restricted to clubs in the Uk. Seek to widen their vision, experiences, learning and opportunities.

In a similar manner now that they have graduated be involved in the process of sending out Resume instead of the clubs selling them like meat.

My point was making even the people we brand “great, hero or legend required a lucky break in their career. Not everyone were able to make an impact where ever they are sent. With the trading of and continous movement of footballers today. Not all will be like Gervinho. Consider Torres in the Chelsea strip thus far. (I must add Torres might require a longer period).

What I have is some insight into the destructive pain children and young people encounter as they realize all they had worked for, in an instant is taken away. Some can rise to a new challenge, while others carry it around like a shut gun. And yes this industry produces that.

Adrian syd – finally someone who realises that there will be a lot of casualties under the new ruling. arsenal are not a man city. we cannot buy up all the players just to stop them going elsewhere and in any case we have more class than that. No the simple fact is we will stick within the 25 man rule. the decision to let 19/20/21 year olds leave the club is not a decision taken lightly. it is not a selfish decision either. it is done for the good of the player and the club. lets face it we currently stand at 24 players 21 and over yet we all want more signings. players have to leave to save their careers whether it be on loan or permanent with a hefty sell on clause wenger very rarely makes the wrong call. As for bartley being better than squillaci, why did sheff utd go out and buy? do you not think wenger can judge when a young player is better than what he has already? he knows JET is way off the level to even be in the back up team at arsenal. he knows that even without bendtner murphy is way off dislodging rvp chamakh vela. he also knows that even without squillaci bartley would be 4th choice at best. once he signs a new cb bartley will be even further behind. he is best served getting another loan. if i am not mistaken bartley falls into the year below murphy and jet so he has another season to force his way in. imo though miquel is better than bartley now. that is coming from someone who watched every minute of his time at rangers.

Few and far in between. JET is a good player perhaps a bit overhyped and right now his head is not in the game amongst other reasons i can list out but that would be rather long winded…. and as of today arsenal needs a lot of players dedicated to football if we are to overcome the lull we are in.

6 months ago I’d have said we’re mad to sell JET but he did very little for Cardiff and was woeful in the play-offs.

But then Gibbs had a poor loan spell & was kept, Stokes an outstanding one & was flogged.

At lot of these loans are complete pot luck as to whether they end a success.

Either way, we needed a clear out of 10+ players, Denilson, Randall & JET have gone, as have one of the 3 LB’s. Bendtner, Almunia & Eboue look like they’re on their way, so will Squillaci when we get the new CB.

Squad starting to look trimmer & more quality based finally.

Doncaster – good loan 14 apps 5 goal 2 ass
    Blackpool – good loan 12 1 3
    Cardiff – poor loan 16 2 2

Winning captain of FAYC and League in 2009 plus 11 goals in 9 reserve games in 2010/2011 including goal v Everton. With RVP and Bendtner injured at the start of last season he should have got playing time. Other players of similiar age apart from Lansbury have had no loans but have got more opportunites. Why ? This is either personal, Wengers blindness or prejudice. No other player in his age group has performed consistently anywhere near his level over the last 3 years but look at the players who have got 1st team experience Henderson and Miguel- complete bollocks. Maybe if Jet was a yes sir/ no sir character the club would step up and work out a programme for an elite athlete to improve his mobility, but thats expecting too much. Jet has faults and needs to work on some aspects of his game but to sell him for 1 million is criminal when Bendntner has disgraced the shirt and is on 52k p/wk
but i guess its ok for him to get 5 years to break into the team ?

Then can I ask you something? How come no PL club have bought him fast as hell? If he is that kind of talent then surely many PL clubs would have gone for it cus yo can’t fail right? I Like JET a lot too but he didn’t got the chance cus Vela and Chamakh needed them. Chamkah did a great job but Vela didn’t, but he needed the chances to become better. Unfortunately he never took the next step and thats why so many fans think JET would been a better option. You can never know for 100% if he would be better but I think he would. It doesn’t really matter now when Benik Afobe is starting to mature and shine and now he needs those chances to improve. If Ryo get work permit he will need those chances to improve… Arshavin will not be forced out by a youngster… Not in the beginning of the season. Maybe a bit later. We have too many players with the first team who needs to up their game. I hope will all my heart that Watt, freeman or another youngster from the local take a place in the wings.

you miss the point of youth systems yes they would like to churn out 3,4 or maybe 5 players to go into the first team but youth players are like true world greats only a few make it to their full potential.

i think we have had the spoils of this generation in Gibbs(hopefully eventually) Wilshere, Scezney, Frimpong and Poss minnone thats 5 players from the same generation that may make first team and the rest sold at a profit to fund other ventures.

next generation is Afobe and Aneke and a few more and the rest being sold off again its a cycle. look at barca they average about 1 player a year and they are greats the likes of puyol, pique(who they bought back) xavi, Inesta(xavi was first team long before inesta came along, Busqutes and Messi then pedro (possiby)the rest they have signed for over the odds from other clubs i.e alves, villa, affaley and ibra.

Who have man utd, Chelsea, Liverpool and man city brought through or even Spurs an Everton. Villa are the only real team bringing players through apart from us in the top half of the table this system is more successful than you think and will continue to be we have a great future.

SOOO upset about JET. has a MASSIVE future in football… makes me question the arsenal youth set up.. If a player is STAND OUT for 5 seasons at youth level that doesnt mean theyll get a sniff.. last season we took him on our pre season tours and he was shining… no sense in this.. and i dont care about attitude.. IF we ever signed ronaldo as a youth his attitude would av been a problem aswell eh?? ridiculous. NOT to say the kid is actually a GOONER!

Mate, if he didnt have the right attitude, then he wasnt going to be allowed to bring that to the first team. Are you the type that is still complaining about bad pennies like Pennant and Bentley being allowed to leave?

Unless he wanted to be sold, or had been involved in something dodgy, it is a bad end to a promising player who had been at the club since he was a kid.

1m barely covers the training cost, not to mention potential.

Can’t see why the likes of Eastmond, Miguel, Henderson are staying around, they haven’t a hope and are average players. Chop them and keep the talent. Nothing to lose loaning JET out and giving him more time.

Can’t see Chuks or Afobe getting a shot in the next years. Lansbury will be sold too.

Lol @ bringing Bendtner into this debate. Bendtner was an absolute beast in the reserve, scored and assisted far more than JET has. He went on loan aged 18, scored 13 goals got 9 assists and played a key role in their promotion to the EPL. If anything he’s one of the few youngsters in our team who earned their way into the first team. I like JET as much as the next person but you lot are talking out of your backsides.

p.s,52k a week? is it any surprise the sun and notw are/were the biggest selling papers in the UK with gullible cretins like yourselves, incapable of displaying a single ounce of critical thought.

“Imagine Gervinho given ten minutes in his first game, he would not have even touched the ball. Arsenal is callous.”

hahaha. didn’t Gervinho score in his first ten minutes?

a good sign of a world class player in the making is being fast tracked at a young age to train and play with the first team i.e Jack Wilshere and Cesc Fabregas they came through at a very young age and were placed in the preassure cooker anyone who is over 17-18 and is not a first 11 player or first team rotation player will not be kept by aresnal i.e Jet, Lansbury and Bartley ect players who could have made it if it wasnt for their attitude like bentley, pennant and bendtner

The Arsenal youth scam. If i’m correct in saying Ashley Cole is the only English player to successfully make it through the ranks to the first team and be first choice in his position. Please correct me if i’m wrong. Other players have been brought into the club at the age of 15/16 which include current squad players such as Cesc have had much more sucess. I’m scratching my head here. Have Arsenal fans been blinded by a few league cup games when Mr Wenger plays his young guns? Or do the english young guns truly believe they will be future first team players? or plying their trade at other EPL clubs?

I think all this attitude and obsessive focus rubbish is cock rot. It seems the goal posts get shifted time and again for Jet,Watt and Lansbury whereas others are given a free ride. Why are they farmed out on loan(s) when others stay comfortable in the ressies stealing a living. You have to have attitude/personality to play top class pro football unless youve got no chance. Man utd are looking after Ravel Morrisson a player with enough attitude to fill 5 changing rooms. Is Fergie getting rid of him ? Thats the main difference between him and Wenger who wants weak willed pussies to roll over and cry (Birmingham Carling cup) Management is about dealing with tough challenging characters eg Cantona not a room full of losing jessies. Its funny but no one on here has suggested the street/race element in this but i feel if some of these guys were from Radlett and not Hackney and spoke differently then the issue of your face not fitting wouldnt apply as much. Certain players off the field booze and girl beating battles show more attiude on drunk filled saturday night. Lets be honest if Jet had done any of these things he would have been sold within days. So cut the Jet attitude bollocks its boring lazy and cheap and reflects shabbily on arsenal/bloggers.

Truth is most aren’t going to come all the way through the youth setup to the first team. Look at Barcelona’s true stats even tho they have a monopoly on spanish youth players, still only like 3 came all the way from the beginning to the first team. Our thing is buying talented teenagers and early 20 players not on everyones radar and turning them into quality professionals. Fabreagas, Djurou, Diaby, Walcott, Toure, RVP, Song, Gibbs, Clichy, Vieira, Anelka, etc.

Sell all the rubbish youth and keep the proven ones like JET! Also Arsenal should stop signing players under th e age of 17. None of them made it, especially the foreign ones. Only well known award winning ones from youth levels like Cesc have make it and one unknown in Clichy (if he really made it:-)USE LOCAL KIDS AND SAVE SCOUTING MONEY. I CAN TELL YOU THE BEST UP AND COMING YOUTH JUST BY WATCHING YOUTH TOURNAMENTS, THEY USUALLY ARE THE ONES WHO GET THE AWARDS!!!

‘Upset’ – “sell all the rubbish youth and keep the proven ones like JET” He is not proven at all. Yes good in his comfort zone but obviously not felt good enough to step up. AND the club are also letting him go to get games so it will suit him too.
