Cesc Present As Arsenal Return To Training

Cesc Fàbregas was present at London Colney this morning, as the majority of Arsenal’s first-team and Reserve players returned for pre-season training.

The captain made a surprise early appearance, as he wasn’t due back until tomorrow. A number of other first-team players who were involved in post-season internationals were missing, including Samir Nasri, while Gael Clichy was in the North ahead of his medical with Manchester City. This meant the early focus is on some of the fringe youngsters, including those who have returned from loan spells.

Ryo Miyaichi and Wellington Silva were both present, and could be a part of the squad that jets off on the Asian early next week.

This week will be a mixture of gym, fitness and general medical work, all designed to assess the players after their summer break.

feels like we are all in limbo at the moment, we all know the squad was not good enough last year and it seems to be getting worse :( a lot of promises made by wenger about improving the squad but we have heard it all before, should of done his business before they go to asia next week

Will ryo and Wellington not have to just go out on loan? What’s the point in them comin to pre season matches?

i’m really disappointed that our transfer business hasn’t all been done by now…

what’s the logic in holding off from making bids?

surely it’s better to have your squad settled early?

Wenger thinks it is good to wait until the last moment so he can get “incredible deals”. Arsenal this season will be significantly weaker than the version we saw last year.

Business before asia? Not going to happen. Wenger is way to slow to conclude deals. It takes at least a month from a bid is made to the player is announce because of transfer fee haggling.

    LB….
Come on and help me out here – because aside from the populist demand for big signings this is how the situation is really sorted – who have we and where are we short. Arsenal have something in the region of 70 pros on their books – as the famous line goes – who is the weakest link…..

No progress off late in our tranfer dealing. This should be Arsene’s last chance to do what needs to be done, else no more execuses. As usual i expect our boys to shine in the Asian tour and other pre-season matches.Cant wait to see miyaichi and wellington in the red and white of arsenal. Wait a minute, any news on botelho. I think he should also be given a chance now that clichy is almost gone.

When we end up in 3rd or 4th position in 2012, we are going to be told by Arsene and the Board, “we were surprised just how competitive the other teams were. Injuries and bad luck stopped us from doing better.” Listen out for a similar excuse for the 1st Team Gooners.

Nasri has got to be the biggest idiot. If he is not happy at the club’s lack of success he should look at himself first, he was shocking in the final third of the season – which was the part of the season when everything was lost. If he was a big enough player himself he should not have allowed his own ability to drop like it did especially as van persie was finding his.

Wenger should only be sackedif he does not achieve the goals and target laid down by the board. As usual theboard will be asking him to guarantee a top 4 finish and as a self sustaining club make sure that he stays within his budgets whilst doing so. they will also as usual set him bonus targets to achieve. these will include trophies and round by round progression as well as wins. he will again be assesed as usual going through the season. if he is looking unlikely to achieve a top 4 finish then he could well get sacked.

A morrow your exactly right. Okay Van Persie was injured in the first part of the season but he performed well in the second part of the season. I would rather play well in the second part of the season rather then the first. So Nasri should look at his overall season and then talk. These players never take responsibility for themselves.

Einstein once said the definition of insanity was to do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result. Well you don’t need Einstein’s brain to realise we’re doing the same thing as every other year. Sell our best players and leave it too late to buy new ones. Would you sell Samba at 9pm on 31st August when you had sold Phil Jones 2 months previously and had no time to get someone else in?

Only last year, AW made yet another )by now) self contradictory statement, saying “you take a big gamble with team stability if you bring more than 3 players into the team in a season”.

I agree that Clichy has reached his peak and was on his way down, but if we even buy some of the players you ask for (as we dream!), according to AW’s own philosophy, we would have an unstable team!

losing clichy is a defensive boost, even vermaelen can play better in that position while arsene is testing either botelho, clichy or traore plus we can buy a new left back. koscielny and djourou will be a year older. we only need 3 new players even better if cesc is staying. the anti arsenal media wants to this team fall apart. they will choke if nasri signs a new contract.
arsenal is a young team and players are maturing, its not like chelsea and man utd who really have to buy big to replace old players.

Sometimes I actually wonder if people are true Arsenal fans. I am never scared when Arsenal sell their top players. The reason why is because Arsenal dont have 2 rely on buying top expensive players in order to challenge for the title. What gets Arsenal challenging amongst the best in the world is our philosophy. At arsenal our philosophy wins us games, its not these so called QUALITY players. Our philosophy makes players seem way better than they are. For example Alex Hleb, Patrick Viera, Henry, Flamini. These players ever since they left Arsenal have not gone on to show the quality they showed at ARSENAL. My whole point is, the likes of Chelsea, Man United, Man City, Liverpool and Tottenham NEED 2 spend big in order to stand any chance of competing. Arsenal’s philosophy enables us to buy standard players and make them seem quality.

Since Wenger is targeting wingers, maybe if he sells Nasri and/or Cesc, he will move Arshavin inside. He has lost pace but is very tricky with the ball and has a powerful shot. If this is the case, Ramsey and Wilshere need to be ready to compete for honors. I really feel that these two and Szchzesny (?) are the future of the club. Keep those three for ten years and we will win.

Two years ago the club was not good enough. Last year we beat Chelsea, ManU and Barca, but weren’t deep enough to sustain the challenge. Plus we had players whose heart was not in it. Let’s regroup with an older, more mature team with some speedy wingers and one new centerback.

arsenal is bigger then clichy, cesc and nasri, if a player wants to leave then we should sell them (but cant nasri to utd – taking the piss!) – we should focus on the players who love the club and want to play for the badge not the cash. a loyal player who is dedicated is a legend what ever they win. wilshere, ramsey and frimpong are the future mf. the first 2 are ready (they cut through man u’s mf like butter), we should put the experience ‘around’ their talent!
if we get gervinho, chamberlain, alvarez and a couple of good (prem) cb’s we will be just as strong going forward and better defensively – clichy was the weak link at the back last season. we all know he’s good but he can’t defend in

if you understand this well you don’t have to worry coz it looks like arsene is running things well. cesc will only leave if barca are serious, which looks like they are not.
the media scared everyone that players will be leaving blah blah blah. seriously, clichy, bendtner etc…. i laughed when i read about denilson comments that he wants to leave. ok! bye!
if vermaelen did play left back at ajax then thats good news. then we need a new central defender, hopefully. although bartley will be probably handed first team chance one more extra body is needed for rotation in case of tiredness and injuries.
we need a big striker but with gervinho coming maybe wenger is planning to move theo in the middle this year. i am not sure that will be enough to mount challenge but i am not worried, why? bendtner leaving is just like new signing, vela on the left wing taking his place as a sub will be upgrade. ramsey taking over from denilson is also an upgrade.

Clichy gone is minor, he can be replaced and couldnt cross to save his life. So arsenal will quickly move on.

Wenger is playing poker, as he’s said, he has made phone calls, and trust that he has a few names in mind.

Nasri and Cesc need to stay for one more season at least, im confident that wenger can pull this off.

If anyone is to go, then bye bye cesc, he’s leaving to la liga so he’s no threat in the epl.

Nasri can be persuaded though, he’s the likeliest of the two to stay.

I’m over the moon that Clichy has left. It will force Wenger to react to this situation and buy a player to fill the void. If he doesn’t then he needs his head examined. He knows Gibbs has injury problems, so he better not say ‘Gibbs is like a new signing’.

Im not worried about the leftback position because im quite sure that Vermaelen will be playing there next season unsell we`ll buy Baines now when city is out of the race. If we dont buy Baines we play Vermaelen at the left and buy Samba and Cahill or is one of them good enough since we`v got SS,Kos,djourou and Vermalen that can play centerbacks?(btw I hope we get ridd of SS)
So for next season i Would like to se:
    szczesny
    Sagna-Varmaelen/Djourou-Cahill/Samba-Baines/Varmelen
    Song-Wilshere-Cesc
    Gervinho/Walcott-Van.Persie-Nasri/Arshavin

Thank u Clichy for ur contribution to the club. However, I hope we can now have someone with better crosses after a good run, some one who can head the ball out of the danger zone and someone who is not going to drop the ball in the most dangerous areas. I vividly remember that penalty with Birmingham Galas protesting but it was all about naivity and AW patience with u lads. The out of positions and the turns in and out that u exposed the team to while playing Barcelona. I hope u realise ur goals at Man City and give them better crosses. Remember Flamine was a regular for the blues while still with Arsenal but count the times he has represented them ever since he left. Mancini may not be as patient as AW. Good luck

FFS, how stupid are people to believe what the papers say over the real truth? Clichy has moved on after a few years, so good luck to him. Fabregas and Nasri? I don’t think so, somehow.

I hate people that call people glory hunters just because they disagree with a few decisions. If that is the case then you morons that agree with everything and think every thing is peachy and just blind supporters. True supporters care about their club so when they see things going wrong then they are going to speak up.

      So true.
I admit that things aren’t as gloomy as some make it out to be, but bloody hell the whole “you’re gloryhunters, wenger we trust” comments just smells of defiance for the sake of defiance.

Some people here sound more like Wenger acolytes than arsenal supporters. Yes wenger is bigger than the players, but guess what? Arsenal is bigger than wenger. Some of you may not realize this, but arsenal existed BEFORE the wenger era, and we also had past managers that were just as succesful.

Not do not read this as “wenger out”, as some of you with a black & white vision might see this, as I still want wenger to say. But simply sticking your head under the sandpit and proclaiming “EVERYTHING IS ALRIGHT, IN WENGER WE TRUST”.

I believe wenger is the best an to get us out of this sticky situation. But beyond what I believe, I also KNOW wenger is human, and there is still the possibility he might not get us out of this situation.

      Simples.

Um, my statement was not a rant at Wenger. We have no clue who is in charge of what at Arsenal. All I know is who ever is in charge of contract negotiations is dropping the ball. How many times are we going to wait until the last year to negotiate a new contract. Why has no one stood up and just flat out told Barcelona to fuck off.

By the way, I can’t wait to see Gael Clichy be a bench warmer and then get loaned out 12 times before his career fades away. Man City, have fun teaching Clichy how to hold a defensive line.

Stop fooling yourself about the “self sustained” model, it is so ridiculous it hurts!

For years we as fans have suffered mentally, when our hopes were high each time to win something, but saw all the hopes go in tatters when worthless players like Almunia, Fabianski, Cygan Senderos, Denilson, … made unforgivable mistakes one after the other, making us feel AW-ful and embarrassed. Now we see our team collapsing without even a stern defence against all the bad rumours by the hierarchy (well, at least it means Hill Wood; whose super clever statements are only matched by thos made by Prince Phillip; would not open his mouth!),

Amazingly, AW still thinks he can do the super silly and worn out “financial stability” pitch!

Amazing! Financial stability for whom? Our board demonstrated clearly how they were only interested in money, when they all at first said Kronke was bad for Arsenal, but sold out to him one after the other, when the money was right!

Now, 2/3rd of the club is owned by a US tycoon, and a third owned by an Uzbek Tycoon.

Way to go Arsene, you brought financial stability to 2 billionaires, while we as fans saw the gradual demise of our team, to the point of total embarrassment and disillusionment!

What statement does it make, what hope does it leave for future, when you sell your most experienced defender to the rival team that plan to kick you out of top 4, for a stupid 7 Million Pounds?!

Guess what people wenger promised to strengthen the squad but all he seem to be doing now is weakening the squad. Look at the epl champs. You need to sign early so as to allow the new player to settle faster. And yet he calls himself a prof. What does he has to show for the last 6season.

some of you lot need to find another club quickly. You’re sitting at your computer thinking how Wenger is ruining your club. How do you think he feels. Take over a great old club, bring them the most success in the clubs history whilst playing wonderful football. His players he developed are choosing to jump ship. He was the leading light in building a fantastic stadium while there is a global meltdown. Competes for honours each year running hundreds of millions behind the sugar daddy clubs. How would you (the moaners) feel in his position ? Were any of you moaners Gooners before Wenger arrived ?

I don’t believe it is Wenger that is the issue. It seems to be the board. At the end of the day, there is one question that we would need to know before we truly know the circumstances. Did Wenger really have more money to spend or did he not. Look, it was so obvious that we were short a few quality players and we had a few bad players that always held us back so if Wenger had the money then it would be his fault. If not then he has done the most amazing job in the world at Arsenal.

Psychological Wenger is not doing me any good by totally refusing to put in bids for players who matter, we want to go to next season with some confidence, and this can only be brought about if Wenger buys players in time, Mr. Wenger the early you the bigger the impact it shall have on Arsenal’s supporters, if you are late with your plans we shall also be late with our support.

Wengers a plank who has done nothing since 2004 (yeah yeah 2005 FA Cup win….. but if you saw the game and how we played that season you will have to admit we were lucky and we were crap…) So 7 years going on 8 of having to put up with lies, failures, poor tactics, poor judgement, inept substitutions, tantrums, and lack of ability to solve problems even when they stare you in the face and everybody who knows anything about the game has said it….i.e. WE needed new centre backs of EPL QUALITY and a goalkeeper to match. What do we get signings the likes of Squillachi,Koscielny,Almunia,Fabianski, to add to sh*t like Eboue, Denilson, Diaby, Song etc., How many other managers would have lasted this long with his record of the last 7 years….certainly none who are truly AMBITIOUS and who want to be successful!

Wenger must go otherwise the rot will continue until even the top 6/7 will become a dream!

And there can be life and success after …ask Monaco…he did the same there they sacked him after he ruined thier side and within 2 years under a new manager they were champs again!

Why does everyone always pick on Eboue? Name me a list of better back up right backs please. Also Song? Are you kidding me?…there are not many better defensive mids in football, then him. Kocsielny is a quality signing and has potential to be great. Did you have a better option in mind? Let me guess…fucking Gary Cahill. Diaby was chased by Chelsea when we signed him so stop acting like he was shit. As for “EPL” quality center backs, do you mean the guy that Wenger signed which made the team of the year in his first season in Vermaelen or the guy that went 30 games unbeaten and had a better goals against record then Vidic and Kompany in Djurou.

    Damn gloryhunter… ;)

Seriously, though, it seems that anyone who doesn’t wholly trust Wenger must have a memory to short to remember where we were when he took over, and an imagination too limited to see where we’d be without him. Wenger is the only reason you lot have such high expectations in the first place. So yes, I trust absolutely that Wenger will make the best of whatever the situation is that we’re in.

Wenger can’t control other clubs, or the ‘investment’ of their billionaire owners, but he can continue making sure Arsenal get stronger year on year on year. That means the club is the important part, not the team, or the performances of a single year. Anyone who can’t see that Arsenal as a club is well ahead of where we were five years ago, ten years ago, fifteen years ago may not be a gloryhunter, but they certainly don’t have a valid opinion.

So Mr Arsene Wenger, we needed at least 4 top class experienced players to complete the squad and challenge for trophies in May. Now it’s July and we don’t have any of them, yet Clichy has gone and it seems we are losing Fabregas, Nasri and possibly even Walcott. Players such as Denilson, Bendtner, Almunia, Squillaci, Diaby still at the club and nobody seems to be interested in them, can things get worse? (Hmm try being a Spurs fan I guess!) How can somebody be such a great manager for 10 years then such a wanker the next 5?

Wenger thinks about money too much. The first,He may be right in this team but he doesn’t be everything in Arsenal ,he is one great part of Arsenal that too small when compare to the Arsenal supporters ,they want a trophy not stable financial . The second , it ‘s not good and useful to keep the heartless players like Fab4 and Nasri,in meaning just too stupid to keep them because the first law of football management is passion ,heartless is show no loyalty and spirit for team in the crisis situation they will not give the 200% for team to win. Do you rememer Wenger

How does anyone know if it is Wenger that is not spending money or just that the board is not giving Wenger money? Do any of you sit in the board room during their meetings? I think it is ridiculous that people jump to conclusions so quickly.

In response to Shane’s answers to my comments…….. I just cannot take anyone serious who rates Eboue, likewise saying Song is anything other than mediocre is deluded at best, just watch he is slow, his passing is average, his marking deplorable and he is one of our weaklinks at dead ball situations…on top of this he gives away far too many fouls in dangerous areas a good DM commits these fouls away from the penalty area (watch Gilberto video, invariably he would foul near the halfway line to stop attacks before they reached our area. As for Diaby, give me a break! the guy has underperformed for years now, he gives the ball away too often and does some really stupid things (own goal v Man U… sending off at Newcastle etc.,) Koscielny….your kidding aren’t you….did you actually watch all of the sub standard performances he had last year, and the c*ck ups that cost us so many goals….get real!!!!! As for Wengers signings, vermalen played well for half a season, and then fell back to be one of the crowd when things went wrong, however I will agree he has been the best of a whole line of pathetic cb signings that Wenger has made … surely even you must have seen through your rose tinted specs the likes of – Squillachi, Djourou, Senderos, Tavlaridis, Stepanov, Cygan etc., You amonst other “AKB’s” have such a narrow minded, blinkered attitude that you cannot see failure where it exists! We couldn’t even win a trophy in a season where Man U and Chelsea were both of par and Man City were only just on the up. This season things won’t be so easy and with the loss/unrest of our top most experienced players do you honestly believe Wenger will be able to change things in 1 month (which is how long we have before the start of the season) when he has FAILED to do anything in 7 years since the invincibles! Write back when you understand the world and what is real!!!!!!!!!!
