Gnabry Scores In Sunderland Defeat

Arsenal continued their build up to the new Premier Academy League season with a 2-1 defeat to a Sunderland XI yesterday.

Steve Bould’s crop of Under 18′s, only playing their second game of pre-season, were unlucky to lose to a Black Cats Reserve side that boasted first-team defenders Nyron Nosworthy and Matt Kilgallon.

After a difficult start, Arsenal finished the opening period on top, and could have been in front just before the break. A raft of changes disrupted the flow in the second half, but with time running out, former Gunner Roarie Deacon lashed home following some poor defending to put Sunderland ahead.

An excellent strike from Jordan Cook doubled the advantage soon after, but Bould’s boys kept plugging away, and pulled one back when summer signing Serge Gnabry bagged his first for the club.

Arsenal had further chances to equalise, but the game finished 2-1.

that’s 2 in 2 for Deacon now at Sunderland hmm i’m getting a bad feeling about letting him go he was in my class in school best in our year by far

  • Well Deacon was one of our best reserve players last season, so no surprise scoring against our U16/18s.

Do you have the line-up Jamie? sounds promising on Gnabry, still eligible for U16s this season I think

  • why are people so happy that an ex player scored a goal against the team your supposed to support? what fucked up logic is that???

    • Chill, man.

    • Because we’re happy to see that he’s getting on well, and I’m sure Arsene Wenger’s happy to hear that he’s settled in somewhere else too. We support Arsenal, but it’s nice to see a former Gunner that wasn’t beaten up about being let go. That must have been a hard time for him. It’s nice to see he’s gotten past it…or would you rather he failed miserably because he doesn’t play for the Arsenal anymore? I hope he does well and makes a great career for himself, he was a joy to watch. ^_^

Supporters are getting upset about our player and transfer policies. We have been told our academy will produce these great players but as we speak Arsene is selling JET to Ipswich and Lansbury to Norwich. I really thought these guys were going to impress. But my biggest problem with it is that Wenger uses this as an excuse to not buy quality. So he wont spend 17 mil on Cahill or 18 mil on Mata because he wants to grow them. Well if that is the case than get these guys up and get them some time.

  • Can you give us some team news mate? no problem with our 16/17 yrs losing to older, touogher, experienced players
They will get better this way

  • Team sheet would be instrusting as i hear we had U15′s playing and they all did well.

lol no offence but that’s not really an achievement… i’m sure every kid in the arsenal reserve and youth set up is the best in their school by a mile.

  • So many on this site saying our academy is a failure because we let some popular reserves go, dumbassses. JET was a great talent at 17 problem is, he isn’t 17 anymore and he hasn’t improved since then to sum him up he is very talented but hasn’t improved despite the efforts of the club Wenger said he was close to the first team and needed to make that final step and JET did nothing I would have sold him too.Barcelona and AJax let lots of youngsters go, for every Xavi there’s 3 or 4 segunda division squad players. The point of most reserves is ultimately to fill up the numbers so the likes of Wilshere can be part of a team at underage level that plays Arsenal football. We wont hear of half the guys we release now again but I always hope we will and that these guys will have good careers at a high level. It’s good to see Hoyte,Larsson and Muamba do well.
