Campbell Close To Permit Decision

Joel Campbell is expecting an answer on his work permit application in the next 24 hours.

The 19-year-old agreed terms on a £930,000 switch from Deportivo Saprissa two weeks ago, but despite Arsenal getting the majority of his paperwork verified, the club are still awaiting the final piece of the puzzle – a visa. The decision was due earlier this week, but has now been delayed until Saturday.

Meanwhile, Campbell has been training with Arsène Wenger’s first-team squad, whilst settling into life in London. Joel knows it could all be for nothing should he fail to win a work permit, something made even more frustrating by the lack of indication either way.

“Richard Law told me that I’ll know tomorrow on my work permit. I have no idea if I’ll get it. It’s 50:50.”

A negative response means a lengthy spell on loan is likely.

Let’s hope he gets one. We still need another striker imo, can’t expect Campbell to come in and be superb right away. He’s still just a kid.

Our striking options after Van Persie are worryingly average.

Love to see him in the squad on Sunday if possible instead of Chamakh and hopefully if we need a goal, Wenger won’t be afraid to bring him on

After giving a special work permit to Arsenal for Ryo, do you think Joel’s 50:50 regular work permit case shall go our way ??

Fingers crossed he gets his visa, going out on loan would be so disappointing for him!

We need all the strikers we can, I cannot wait to see Campbell and Afobe on the pitch. Do we really need another striker?

Even if Joel doesn’t get a visa now he seems to be a regular in the Costa Rican squad so I am sure it will not be long before he qualifies for the visa.

Is Joel Campbell’s application for normal work visa or a special talent visa?

If it’s a special talent visa like Ryo’s I imagine he ought to earn one based on his exploits with Costa Rica. Although they might give club football greater importance, which would explain how Ryo earned his permit without ever playing for Japan’s senior side.

But if it’s a normal work permit based on the percentage of national team games played, Campbell would surely fail with only 6 senior caps to his name.

Another question: I understand we can only apply for one permit per player per year, but is that calendar year or by season? ie. If Campbell’s application fails can another one be made in January?

A strong half-season loan spell like Ryo’s, combined with his Costa Rica caps, would then surely be sufficient for him to earn the permit.

I think the uncertainty about his visa was 1 major reason other clubs were reluctant to take him in. And this is the gamble Wenger was talking about. But I have a good feeling about this guy – he will be our next great player.

I doubt it would be a lengthy loan because he is already a full international so he would qualify soon. I can’t understand how they do all this special talent stuff. The kid is a full international. Let him play.

Agree with most of the above, he IS a regular international. Shouldn’t be more than a year on loan, if there’s any loan at all. He’s a good young player, and we have a pretty good supply of these now. Now, if wenger adds some experience, which seems likely given his comments yesterday, we will have a truly great side, with players who actually WANT to play for arsenal.

On Chamakh – most people seem not to have read Henry Winter last week who pointed out that he is fasting for Ramadan. No food at all during the day would explain his off colour performances recently. When fasting ends at the end of August, hope to see his form of last half of the season…… (rather than the 2nd half of season form) before he goes off to African nations cup.

No, Chamahk has always been this player. The problem is he stumbled on to a few goals here and everyone fell into the hype. I said exactly what he was when we were first linked with him. Everyone was claiming he would be a starter and all that BS.

Anyone getting a feeling this could be some kind of backhanded approach to get Edin Hazard?

It might just be that the 2 clubs and all parties have agreed that he signs for Arsenal then we loan him to Lille straightaway

Either that or we have heard that Campbell has been refused a work permit and we needed a quick solution.

    Loads of shirt sales

      lol!

Who knows why Wenger does anything anymore, he sits their laughing when someone calls him a bellend. He buys children for Adult prices and Adults for childrens prices. He flauts rules when he is banned knowing full well the cameras will be all over him. Now when we are after one of Europes prized assets he goes and steals a player from right under the noses of the very club he wants to do business. I know he is a wyly old fox, but some times he more like a crazy coyote!!

I think your problem is you are on the media roller coaster and simplify that art of being a manager. Who knows what is going on and bidding on a player in the free market is not wrong. By the way, didn’t the Lille president say they value Hazard as twice as much as Nasri so I very much doubt that deal is going to happen and you contradict yourself in being positive about Hazard calling him a “prized asset” but negative about signing top young players in saying “He buys children for Adult prices and Adults for childrens prices.” If we had bought Hazard a couple years ago for 12 million, you would have been bitching about it, saying “we buy children for adult prices.” Make up your mind. In a market where a world class player is going to run you 40 million pounds (look at Modric and Falcao), and even ones that are not world class yet are going run you that (Pastore), the only realistic way to get world class players at Arsenal is to buy top young talent and develop them or find a player that was on no ones radar like Vermaelen.

God the fucking stupidity that I see from some of our own fans is annoying. People need to stop thinking this is a video game and understand that in the current market where every team thinks their player is worth 40 million and every player thinks they should be on 200 thousand pounds a week, that it is fucking difficult. You act like Wenger is not trying. Wenger could easily leave this club and go to a Inter Milan, or Real Madrid (even a PSG) and spend all the money he wants and easily win titles but he bust his ass for this club to in the long run leave us in a much better position then when he got here and all you guys can do is complain.

By the way, if you haven’t heard, Wenger was told that he was aloud to communicate to the bench through a 3rd party which happens to be why we are challenging the case. Some of you give me a headache even more then the media.

I only know the rumors and to be honest, I rarely watch the South Korea games (unless they play Japan) and I never watch Monaco so I don’t know a whole lot about him but we need a new 2nd choice striker and getting into the Korean market will bring in more money as Man Utd have shown so it would not be a bad thing.

Park Chu Young’s a good player from what I’ve seen. He was very impressive in the world cup. I’ve only seen him a handful of times so I’m no expert but from what I have seen he’s got two good feet, brilliant stamina, he’s a real hardworker, decent technique and he’s pretty quick. Could be a very decent signing for 3 mil.

He can’t be any worse than Chamakh is at the moment put it that way.

Park has the skills and stamina and can be a valuable squad player. But I am worried about the 2 year compulsory military service all Korean men have to go to. Apparently, he is due to comply in 2 or 3 years. You can google this.

I really don’t think we’ll sign Hazard. Love to be wrong but I’d be shocked if I was. They’ve said he’s staying all along, nowhere reliable has actually reported that we’re close to signing him. I reckon he’ll stay one more year in France.

On a football note…. I must say that people seem to be confusing diving out of the way from simulation. I you dive out of over the tackle so you do not break your legs, that is not the same a trying to fake a situation or con the ref. I get tired of hearing announcers say that a player has, “dove” just because he avoided the bad tackle.
