Jamie Edge

Published on April nd, 2008

Jamie Edge joined Arsenal from League One side Cheltenham Town in the summer of 2009 where his rapid rate of development saw him become one of the most sought after young players in the country.

The tall and skillful defensive midfielder can also play at centre back and is expected to play for the Under 16′s in the his debut season for the club. He had been with Cheltenham since the inception of their under-nine team in the 2002-03 season and has developed into a strong, 6 foot plus powerhouse.

He was promoted to their Under 16 side at the age of 13 and he forced his way into the Under 18′s and Reserves despite being only 15. Gloucester-born Edge was almost promoted to the first-team but due to registration problems he couldn’t complete an amazing journey with the Robins.

A two week trial with Manchester United followed but it was Arsenal who were keener to sign Jamie. He played for Steve Gatting’s Under 16′s in a behind closed doors game and was then taken away to Italy to participate in the Atalanta Cup. He was thoroughly impressive in every match and a £100,000 fee was agreed weeks later.

He agreed personal terms and signed on the dotted line to join Martin Angha and Sean McDermott in switching to North London during the summer of 2009.
