Martin Angha-Lötscher, known simply as Martin Angha, joined Arsenal from FC Zürich during the summer of 2009 but did not complete his switch until January 2009.
Born on the 22ndof January 1994 in Switzerland, Angha joined the FC Zürich Academy as an 9 year old. He went on to develop through the ranks as a centre back before earning the rank of captain of the their Under 16’s.
Martin was soon included in the Swiss youth teams where he was again named skipper – once more at Under 16 level. Angha’s big break came during the 2009 Nike Cup where he led his Zürich side all the way to glory against FC Luzern in front of watching scouts. The stopper described the Cup win as a ‘dream come true’.
Arsenal moved quickly and invited the whole Angha family to London where the 6 foot powerhouse was shown around the stadium and training ground before being given VIP tickets to watch Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Stoke City. Clearly in awe of the Emirates Stadium, he was then given the opportunity to play on the surface when the Under 16’s beat Chelsea 4-1 the next day.
After being taken to Anfield with the rest of the squad to watch the Gunners lift the F.A Youth Cup, the prospect signed on the dotted line with a small amount of compensation changing hands between the two clubs. The classy and composed centre half is blessed with pace, technical skills and strength in abundance – like any modern central defender. He also takes a mean penalty.
He should start his career with Steve Gatting in the Under 16’s but should push on into the Under 18′s by the close of the campaign.
