As a school boy Sanchez Watt was regarded as one of the most promising youngsters in the country, so much so Spanish outfit FC Barcelona will willing to snap him up. However, the move never happened, and several seasons on, the Londoner is showing just why he attracted such interest.

Blessed with quick and intelligent feet, Watt learnt the importance of taking his chances as a first year scholar. An injury to Rhys Murphy presented him with the opportunity to establish himself, and he took it. Having already played Reserve team football as 15 year old, he scored on his home debut for the Reserves against Portsmouth, and it seemed things just couldn’t get better as now international chances had opened up.

He played and scored as England won the Algarve Tournament in 2008 and returned to Arsenal in blistering form. But after being knocked out against Southampton, he was forced to miss a large part of the year with concussion. On his return against Cardiff, Watt showed his true quality with a stunning lob from 25 yards. The exciting winger had 8 goals under his belt by the end of the season, featuring in a whole manner of positions.

After signing professional terms, Sanchez, who is also a keen musician, was granted 45 minutes for the first-team away to Huddersfield Town. He again made a stunning impact – volleying a vital equaliser as Arsenal came from behind to win 2-1. But the Academy season had barley got going before Watt was injured again. Chasing a hopeful through ball, he clashed with the West Ham goalkeeper during the 2-1 victory at London Colney. He broke his foot was missed two months.

Yet Sanchez bounced back, again. He pushed himself into the F.A Youth Cup side and scored a fantastic brace at the Emirates Stadium to send Arsenal into the final. But not content with that, goals in both legs of the final helped the Gunners claim the trophy. He also featured as the Premier Academy League was wrapped up a week later.

Whether it’s as a striker or winger, Sanchez Watt is set for a bright future.
