Amaury Bischoff – Great On The Pitch, Not So Good Of It

Amaury Bischoff made his much anticipated Arsenal debut on Monday evening, but whilst many left the ground or turned off their streams/televisions, little did they know of what was going on outside Underhill.

Bischoff played a little under an hour on his first run out of the season, operating in his favourite ‘number 10’ position behind strikers Rui Fonte and Jay Simpson. Whilst it was his first game in several months, the Portuguese Under 21 International showed some neat, positive and intelligent touches, but drifted in and out of proceedings as time ticked down.

Neil Banfield spoke about his technical qualities before and after the game, yet after the full time whistle yesterday – Amaury proved he is already adapting to life in London.

Wearing a thick woolly hat and a large coat, the 21-year-old left Underhill only to climb aboard the wrong coach. He sat in the Stoke City team bus, clearly oblivious to the fans who were shouting instructions to the Frenchman.

Eventually he realised his mistake, and showed good spirits as he finally found the Gunners coach, even enthusing in a joyful spirit – ‘Fucking Hell!’.

It turned out to be an interesting night for the youngsters, with Jay Simpson leaving the dressing room late and being forced to walk home. In all fairness to the striker, he was more than happy to chat about all matters Arsenal with the fans, after all, he is a Gooner.

Away from those antics, Mikael Silvestre applauded the performances of the Reserve players, and confirmed he came through the 90 minutes without any problems.

Luke Ayling, Francis Coquelin and the aforementioned Silvestre were all recipient’s of praise from the manager, you can read what was said Here.

Plonker. Seriously though, it’ll be good to see him get some games under his belt, so we can see if he is a real DM. Arsenal have 3 major problems at the moment:
    1. Can’t defend corners.
    2. Can’t pass there way to goal through 10 defenders in the box (like Sunderland).
    3. Leave a big hole in front of the back four for opponents to have a crack from 25-30 yards out.

Our lack of a next Gilberto is the reason for no. 3. Denilson has some good points, but shutting down opponents in that space is not it. Diaby is coming back, so he has next go at it. If he fails, maybe Bischoff will have his chance.

    1. Bischoff is not a DM and never will be.
    2. The comments about Denilson are unfair. We have conceded two “wonder” goals. The first against Hull was out on the left and technically speaking you could also blame the left sided midfielder for not closing down Giovanni. The second against Sunderland was Song (who many consider to be the better DM) losing possession playing in the DM role. The difference between Denilson and Flamini is that the latter only passed the ball 10 ft to Cesc (Obviously he didn’t, but you get my point). If you look at the stats Denilson has been one of the best players in the premiership, let alone Arsenal. He misses the odd pass, however the completion rate is still over 80% and he doesn’t look for the easy choice.

Agree we can’t defend corners, however more specifically Gallas can’t defend corners.

Hi J, thanks for the close watch you keep on our youngsters. Being from Holland it’s the only way for me to get some rock solid info on our future pearls. Keep it up mate.

    Thanks.

You like the word ‘aforementioned’ don’t ‘ya Jay ;) .

Poor bloke, must have wondered what the hell was going on. Also, Jay Simpson did an interview with ATV last night, could this be part of the reason why he had to walk home?

Hi JS do u think Kyle bartley and havard nordviet have a chance of making it at arsenal i do. We have toure who is 28 gallas who is 30 and we have djoruou who is 22 and they are our proper CBs, i see song as a DM he looks the part. I can honestly see nordviet and bartley pairing up or am i being to delusional. I reckon if havard nordviet bulks up he could be our daniel agger-he has similar size around 6ft 1/2. And bartley could be our rio ferdinand

Notdveit has a good chance, with Bartley I guess we’ll see. Not all of the players we have at the moment will make it. Wenger paid £1m for him though, so he must rate him pretty highly.

How many of our youth players do any of you think will stay at club long enough to be given a testimonial? Even if Fabregas (i no not youth player) ses out current contract he will not have reached his best when he leaves.Merida,Wilshire Afobe if they all stay 10 years they will only be about 26, our bank balance may be great but we could then face these same players at their best. Just a thought.

Good article. I saw most of the match on Arsenal TV. I think Silvestre would be more than capable of doing a job for us at C.B. Bischoff looks good as well, as has been pointed out : not a defensive midfielder…good though!

I think havard nordviet is a very well-balanced defender..he is very composed on the ball for a young lad.. Very similar to daniel agger in that way.. If nordtviet could build a good partnership with johan djourou that would be great.. Now all we need iz a holding midfield player.. ie: jack rodwell from everton..
