Lansbury On Target As England Cruise Past Albania

Arsenal midfielder Henri Lansbury sealed victory for England Under 19’s this afternoon with a fantastic header to help secure a 3-0 win for the Lions in the opening qualifying fixture for next summers European Championships.

Lansbury has had a difficult few weeks, summed up after his red card against Aston Villa for a terrible two footed lunge. But it’s been captaining his country where Henri’s real qualities have come to fruition, and after he glanced home the final of the three goals on 79 minutes, the 17-year-olds top performances show no sign of ending.

Manchester United’s Danny Drinkwater bagged the opener, Rhys Murphy’s strike partner Nathan Delfouneso made it 2-0, before Lansbury stuck the decisive third.

Gavin Hoyte, Rhys Murphy and Henri all started the fixture, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was named among the substitutes. 6 points from the next games against Northern Ireland and Serbia should all but secure a place in the next qualifying round, the Arsenal quadruple are all expected to be heavily involved.

He might be a fringe reserve player, but he is doing so well for the England youth squad in the CM position that we should hold him, for £££ value alone. He hasn’t yet cracked into the first team squad, however we’ll see how injuries pan out in the next few rounds of the C.C. (should we make it far, and not pull a slip up). Anyways, good job henri!

I feel for Lansbury, before his fever he looked a real prospect and since then he’s been pushed out to the right and certain people who never saw him before the fever, are rating him as all kinds of things.

He’s a top prospect and when he plays in the middle (like he does for England), he’s a very very good player. I just hope Randall goes on loan in January to give Lansbury some real game time in the centre, he deserves it.

I always thought Lansbury would get in the 1st team before Randall, but Randall’s shown he has that energy and tough tackling that a certain Flam did for us last season…

Am I expecting too much from the fella?

    Erm, probably!

Fringe reserve team player Lol he is still only 17 FFS he has been out with glandular fever for 6 months and it will probably take him another 6 months to get back to his best and he is mor than good enough to make the grade here at Arsenal

He is also highly rated by Arsene, so as long as he is patient, he will get his chances.

Well Arsene playing him on the right shows he has a lot of faith in him. He has been out for long and other CM’s have made good progress and look better atm. but Arsene knows Lansbury has the talent, and giving him playing time, even on the right, will make him a better player.

I do think he can make it, but the fever maybe extended the time when he reaches the first team to a year longer. He’s got the potential he needs to make it here.

First he has to grow up abit, last weeks attempt at a tackle was terrible. Hopefully he can transform his form now for Arsenal, once his ban is over.

When he is played in the centre of midfield he is excellent to watch. Very elegant and a very good passing range.
Can sit deep and dictate the play of a game or play a more attacking role just as well.

I would like to see him play in this role in the next Carling Cup game but doubt it will happen.

Anybody who watched the England U19’s vs the Dutch U19’s game a couple of weeks ago can see that the boy is class because he ran the show from midfield

i really hope lansbury makes it at arsenal. From what i have read and seen he seems very talented. Are the rumours true bout his party lifestyle could affect his chances or is this rubbish.

Why do so many mor*ns hope Randall will taken out of position/sold for Lansbury. Despite being 1 yr older, Randall has been involved in the Austria Pre-season since he was 16, has PL and European appearance for us and apart from Randall, Gibbs & Szczesny no other youth players that have 2nd contract with club [1st contract is only for potential, 2nd is determined by Wenger].

Thats not to say Lansbury is not talented, but he has to strive for improvement with same applying for Randall because there are always talented players belolw ready to take your place but people should disrespecting Randall’s talent.

Hopefully Carrick comparison will come to fruition. http://www.arsenal.com/news/reserves-news/young-guns-mark-randall

Henri Lansbury is seen as someone with bigger potential, and although Randall has this experience (and I’m really coming around to Randall, he’s really impressing me), I still feel Lansbury can be the better player.

Randall has made the step up from player with potential to someone who’s really showing ability aswell as potential, something only Wilshere has done in the last year or so, hopefully he’ll be prepared to wait another year or 2 for a real chance at the first team.

Yes he has got a couple of caps for England at U16’s and U17’s level but if he was really rated buy the England coaches he would have a lot more, P.S according to Setanta it looks like Chelsea have beat Arsenal to the signiture of Barcelona’s 14 year old wonderkid Gerad Deulofeu

    @ Gerard Deulofeu

Like Scott Sinclair, Michael Mancienne, Seth-Ofori Twumasi and Franco di Santo, he won’t get a sniff at Chelsea so long as their best players are fit, unless he has the potential to become one of the best players in the world and his develop fast tracks, like players of Messi or Ronaldo when they were 17 / 18.

As much as I’d like him to come to us, when will the youinger clubs learn that with the money Chelsea earn, they’ll forever be buying new players for expensive players whilst ignoring the players who need to play to get better. Hell probably be sent out to 3 clubs per season (like Sahar and Sinclair) and he’ll come back and used sparingly, maybe the Carling Cup if he’s lucky. Which is a shame tbh.

Ell: We get it, you have a blog. I also agree with you. Shocking that any young player would go to Chelsea knowing their track record. When Scholari decides he is going to play a couple kids will be the same time he leaves (it was the same for Jose) and it will become a sham once again. I genuinely think they’d let a Messi or Cesc be ignored.

Why is Jack Wilshere not selected for the under 19 or even under 21 tournament for England. If he is good enough to get a first team no. for Arsenal and playing regularly for Arsenal reserve, he should be good enough. Arsene definitely rates him ahead of Gavin, Rhys Murphy, Henri and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas. Stuart Pearce and the U19 coach better seriously look at Jack as the future of England midfield. If he manage to get into England World Cup squad in 2010, that would be a crowning achievement of the Arsenal Academy.

I don’t know about that, Mikel plays doesn’t he? That said their record for promoting youngsters is nothing compared to united or even Liverpool and especially us. Its not surprising kids join them still though. Its easy for us to sit here and say well they haven’t thought about their career! These kids are 14-16 in the main, even the most intelligent of kids don’t think too far in the future at that age, they probably get turned by the money. Also they are probably confident enough to believe they are good enough to force their way in anywhere and they likely get reassured that Chelsea would give them opportunites, regardless of how true that may be.

The reason Randall gets some undeserved flak is simply because a lot of Arsenal fans are fickle and proponents of the knee jerk reaction. The evidence for this can be seen before and after the end of last season when he impressed in the first team. All of a sudden he was a good player in most peoples eyes. Then comes pre season and he doesn’t play all that well and now he is rubbish again. Then comes a top performance in the carling cup, along with some good performances for the reserves and he is good again. The same pattern can be seen with Denilson, Bendtner, Walcott and pretty much any young player at the club that has ever suffered from a loss in form. As Kent Paul aludes to above, you can say the same about Lansbury, great prospect, star for England u-17s, everyones high on him, then he gets ill last year, his form is affected and a lot of people start saying he isn’t any good, now we are seeing the real Lansbury in his performances for England u-19s and he is flavour of the month again. All it takes is one month of poor form and he’ll be rubbish again though.

Opinions or views of Arsenal matter to me more than England youth coaches cr*p, at the moment Randall is rated more highly than Lansbury at Arsenal end of so just because England are picking dont mean sh*t. Also look at the link that posted before, injury was the main factor in cutting his national youth appearances short like B Amos cannot shift Steele from the U19 team bcuz just the last U17 WC, Amos got injured and cant get back in even though he is better.

Just wait till the humble pie is served.
