Özyakup Strike Not Enough As Arsenal Lose To Chelsea

Although Arsenal’s Under 18’s romped away with the points against Chelsea on Saturday, the Gunners’ Under 16’s suffered from International duty – going down 4-1 at Hale End.

England Under 16’s Victory Shield campaign robbed Steve Gatting of Chuks Aneke, Josh Rees and leading scorer Benik Afobe, whilst four of his regulars were called into the Under 18’s. Jason Banton was released last month, this left depleted options, 14-year-old Zak Ansah plugged the gap.

However, new boys Ignasi Miquel and Oğuzhan Özyakup were available for selection, they were both in the goals last week, Özyakup would act as the link up man behind Ansah.

A rampant Chelsea thumped four past keeper’ Charlie Mann, yet Oğuzhan made it 2 in as many fixtures with a tidy finish.

The defeat will come as a frustration to Gatting with his sides’ stunning recent form, but with their being no League standings and with half of the team missing, better things are certainly ahead.

Maybe, but we also suffered with the likes of Dunne, Steer, Rodgers and Ogogo away, players had to be pushed on.

    Injuries didnt help too.

That’s not true, what about the Under 18’s result? they were beaten 2-0, and it could have been many more.

This site is reporting on Arsenal youngsters progress it’s not a competition about who has the best young players. Youth football is more about development than results. Plenty of players who have been part of winning youth teams are no where to be seen now. A team might actually win because they have bigger, physically stronger players but over time they lack talent or the commitment to really make it in the game, so I wouldn’t read too much into it.

Chelsea would have missed Deen-Conteh and Blackman really. Chalobah’s not yet a full u16 regular but should probably count, whilst MacEachran is playing with the u18s this season anyway. u16 captain Billy Knott played in the u18s Saturday as well, so it’ll have been a weakened team compared to what it could be at its best, but we are pretty strong at this level.

Anyone got a lineup or scorers? I know it’s not the prerogative of this site to deal with info on the oppo but if there’s anything.
