Arsenal Tracking Danish Centre Back Jørgensen

Arsenal are among five Premiership clubs who are tracking F.C. Copenhagen’s exciting young centre back Mathias Jattah-Njie “Zanka” Jørgensen.

Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham and Newcastle have all made checks on the giant 18-year-old, who recently became a full international with Denmark. Mathias started out with home town club B93, where he played for his country at Under 16, Under 17, Under 19 and Under 21 level.

In 2007 he made his first team debut aged just 16, and his run in the side coincided with B93 going on a four game unbeaten stint. His then coach said he “could be the best defender in Denmark’s history” and with the praise still fresh in his ear, Copenhagen came calling.

He was snapped up the the prestigious outfit, who began work developing his abilities. At 191cm he is obviously very commanding in the air, yet at the same time, possesses the talent and intelligence to pass and move the ball out from the back. It’s those qualities which has seen the biggest teams come calling.

Jørgensen only has 23 appearances for FCC’s first team under his belt, but was deemed experienced enough to make his International bow against Wales during the recent round of friendlies. He also has the eye for the odd goal, proving he is as much a threat in attacking situations, as he is in defensive ones.

Before the start of the current campaign, Mathias collected both the Players’ Talent of the Year and Arla Talent of the Year awards. Nicklas Bendtner has previously won both prizes, after his break through season with the Gunners.

It’s believed a fee of around £3 million would prize away the highly rated youngster. Let the chase begin.

We just love those Danes don’t we? How’s… Ramusson, is that his name, doing J?

Sounds as exciting as Nordtveit and Senderos (when we bought him) were, lets hope we can sign him, we are a little light at the back at reserve level considering I kind of expect Nordtveit to push for 5th choice in the first team next season.

We had similiar hope with a young man named Phillipe Senderos. Hope he’s not a lumbering oaf like the man at Milan! But an uncompromising CB is definately whats needed. J, you think this lad is the answer? What about Havard?

If he’s the guy on the right, he looks like the big, ugly, brutish centre-half we need. Bit old, though.

An eighteen year old would fit, but too young for a defence role.

It would be a good signing for the future but we need to buy a more experienced centre back and that should be our main aim. We already got nordviet and djourou battling for first team, we need someone more experienced but i won’t be too disappointed with this signing.

Also I don’t understand what the picture is showing. Why is Wenger walking with those people, who are those people?

We definitely need a new centre back, but with all the other clubs that are interested in him, I think it depends which club is willing to pay the most for him. It would be good if he decided to come to Arsenal, that is if he decides to leave his present club. But a lot depends on the players agent, if he’s greedy like a lot of players agents then he would advise the player to go to the one that’s willing to pay the highest fee.

I was watching part of that match against Wales but I was concentrating on another debutant; Ramsey. Didn’t know he was playing in what wasn’t the greatest to be honest.
We have two very promising centre backs in Djourou and Nortdviet who are good on the air and the deck especially the former.

He is not worth 3 mill thats for sure – he would no where near the Arsenal 1st team – maybe in 3 or 4 yrs time or so, but right now he is even being a pushover in the danish league… People were just blinded that he got the chance for FC Copenhagen at the age of 17 and there has been this unrealistic hype around him since…

If AW really sin this young danish defender and things don’t turn yurn out it will be I told you so. Arsenal have too many kids not proven although showing enormous promise /potential like Senderos. It has set back the defence by a few seasons.
AW has to go for the finished product athough such a player will cost more and will be at least 5 years older. But the positive side is such a player is more reliable.
    Think about it.

When will people get that Youth buys are unrelated to the first team when they are bought? It’s like OMG THAT LUKE FREEMAN IS THE REASON WHY ARSENAL SUCK RIGHT NOW. Like, seriously, these people just don’t get it.

The archetype Wenger Youth signing (i.e. not Cesc or Denilson) spends years in the reserves, in the Carling Cup, in odd sub appearances and out on loan. Look at the names, Vela, Bendtner, Song, Nordtveit, Pedro, Djorou, Senderos, Merida, Traore- they all follow an archetype of learning their trade before they break the first team. If they are given that responsibility too early for unfortunate reasons (Ade, RVP, Eduardo injured giving Bendtner a chance; Flamini and Bert leaving for Song to be needed too early) then don’t blame them.

These are players that are coveted around the world but the difference is that they wouldn’t be making regular first team starts at other big clubs, they’d still be in training and not having the exposure and expectations most youngsters don’t deserve like our team. The next batch, and I’m talking about the 15/16 year olds won’t have the responsibility Song and Bendtner have right now, because they will be treated to a regular time to adapt as our current first team grows more experienced and bigger, the Afobes and Miquels will be given time to go on loan, to make the cups their own, to spend time mastering sub appearances etc. Talented youngsters, unless they are Leo Messi, don’t deserve to be dropped into the deep end at 19, they should only be dipping their toes. Give them years of diving practice and teach them different strokes and by the time they are about 23 (like Flamini but without the fucking off, or Mikel, or Iniesta etc. etc.) their education should be complete.

If we buy this Jorgensen kid and give him 5 years of an Arsenal education, Djorou+Senderos will be starting to hit his prime, Toure will be peaking, and him and Nordtveit will be starting to hit that age when CBs stop becoming liabilities and start to become dominant if they are given the correct time and training.

You just have to remember that before you shit on Young Guns and younger players, almost none of our current team has peaked or even hit *that* age yet. Where was Drogba at 20? Slumming it in the French 3rd division, and yet you all shit on a regular international like Bendtner who is still only learning his trade. Remember Senna at 20? God no – hell Wikipedia doesn’t have any info on him before he moved to Spain at 26, and it sure isnt because of the lack of love and documentation of Brazilian football, its because he was just a nobody learning the game until he was good enough in his mid 20s to make a name for himself and move to a rubbish Spanish team, with another couple years to become a star there. And yet you shit on 20 year old Song.

It’s not these players fault they are given too much responsibility at such a young age and with very little experience around them to fall back on. It is unprecedented to see something like this happen in sport and once our team starts to grow up, it is likely it will never be seen again. But it does not mean we should stop looking to buy youngsters, and it does not mean we should ruin the names of our current youngsters. It just means we have made a huge mistake in relying on them.

Look at Steve Rowley with his 24 carat gold chain around his neck. The little guy can’t seem to remember his name on the tip of my tounge or fingers as I’m typing this.
I think Senderos and Djourou could make a great partnership but the former does make a few too many mistakes but everything else of his game I like. Mentally a bit weak maybe and knowing when to get tight or not.

He might be another Senderos. Big, lack of pace, error prone and a false dawn after Adams and Sol had left. You remember all the accolades when Senderos arrived? Eventually, he was a waste of money and time.Arsene, don’t get into the hype.

Senderos was a beast until the Carling Cup final. Don’t rewrite the past just because Drogba killed his confidence dead. Remember he was so great in the Champions League run, remember he was nearly given the captains armband until Gallas pulled seniority rank and it was given to Henry. AC Milan, the home of insanely great centre backs no less, wanted him, what a terrible player he must be ey!

Senderos was no beast, a hopeless young player we wasted money on. Arsenal refused to bring in Curtis Davies for 10 million; now look at what Curtis is doing at Villa? Tabulate all money spent on developing and paying salaries for Senderos and it all went waste.

Senderos lost us the CC finals, CL with POOL and also our lost against Blackburn in the FA semi-finals.Remember the CL game at Serville where Senderos turned into a GK? Why Arsene kept Senderos when he proved to be hopeless was beyond me. Kanoute, McCarthy, Martins, Drogba all ‘roasted’. He was tall and big yet Senderos was poor in the air because he never liked jumping and never used his body. Thanks Arsene finally let go a loser.

This boy might be another hyped useless player. Most foreigners we’ve brought in have been waste. In fact, since Arsene, showed interest in recruiting foreign players, we’ve won nothingand we might not do ell again unless he start scouting infusing local player into the team. Upson, who was let go is now a better player than all the CB’s that we have.

Howard, the fact that in the Blackburn game Gallas and experienced full back stayed in the centre and the less mobile Senderoa was played at right back is the reason we lost. Gallas’ ego means he couldn’t be moved where he was more useful to the team, no one on the planet would suggest Phil is a quality fullback.

Most foreigners have been waste? I suppose you could just ignore all the good ones (Like every top scorer since Ian Wright left) then you would be left with some that didn’t work out, but that is football. There are quite a few English boys who failed to make the grade, and it is only really this year with the likes Wilshere, Randall and Lansbury that a glut of high quality looking, Arsenal trained English boys have been pushing to be included in the first team.

Impatience has lead a few to slip through Arsene’s fingers, everybody wants first team football now, and some were clearly not ready (Upson and that chump Bentley for example) to start for us.

BTW J, Your great run of predictions fell short when Merida failed to make it off the bench much less start tonight. I was starting to quote you like the bible after Hoyte! Keep up the good work, you are still right more than you are wrong.

RE KAT: Miquel is still young but has lots of good attributes to be a Arsenal player but it is to early to judge. Tall and a good passer. Vela can make it as a regular in the starting XI as early as this season but could be more likely one or two seasons later as he has a lot of stiff competition but is progressing nicely.
Once he gets a few real starts can really stake his claim.

I think the only thing standing in the way of Vela being a first team regular is Wenger’s reluctance to use him. He is simply awesome and for me he is a better player than RvP and Nick. RvP was pretty bad yesterday (not as bad as Denilson though). Robin did pretty much nothing apart from those two amazing free kicks that could so easily have been converted. Maybe that’s the main reason for him being there, taking the free kicks we get on the right.

He would be a great signing for you. Definitely has a promising future.

And for the guy, sirwenger, who said that he’s not even worth £3M and he just got hyped – that’s not true! No, he’s not worth £3M – FCK’s chairman said that he would refuse 5M euros for him.

And he’s hyped? No. He IS really talented. Not many young players got a chance at FC Copenhagen. Actually, they’re known for not using young players, but still he’s a first team regular.

I hope you’ll not buy him though, because we need him in Copenhagen :)

    Best regards,
    A Dane

It is no coincedience that when Senderos was playing last season, we had our lowest average of conceding in games. It’s no coincedience that he became the main componant of the CL run defence. It’s no coincedience that when he plays for the team, we go on runs 10 games a time with clean sheets. Senderos is known for occasionally lapses in concentration and Drogba gets the better of him and isn’t as good out of position- wow, he’s every young player! Tony Adams, no less, was nicknamed ‘donkey’ at the same age as Senderos. Cannavaro was at Parma, looking eh… alright. The boy clearly has talent, he’s just suffering from young player syndrome! Let’s wait and see what a year of learning from Nesta and Maldini (no coincedience such a centre back ended there either) can do before we right him off.

Oh, and no new young player deserves to be written off because of how someone elses career turned out. “Hey, i’m going to start a band!” “Why bother, Duran Duran were shit.”

kat: Gai Assulin is like a talented Yossi Beneyoun. And not just because they are both big jews. He plays like him, but with passing, crossing, shooting and defending ability. Not the next Messi, just the same way that no new midfielder at Arsenal is not the next Cesc, but has the opportunity to become a good, dependable player at Barca or a star somewhere else.
