Arsenal's Botelho Fined Wages By Loan Side Salamanca

Arsenal defender Pedro Botelho has been fined €3000 Euros by his loan club UD Salamanca after skipping training and travelling to Madrid to watch Real’s Champions League clash with Juventus.

The 18-year-old Brazilian is in the final campaign of a two year loan with table topping UDS, and has featured in nearly every League encounter this season, although mainly from the bench. Pedro is known for his flamboyant life style and love for the Spanish night life, yet so far it’s been harmless.

However, Botelho angered the club’s management after organising the trip with friends, to see the Spanish Champions, without informing anybody associated with The Union. But watching the game was not what angered chairman Juan José Pascual, it was the fact that upon the full time whistle he took his friends to a Madrid restaurant, where they spend the majority of the night.

Pedro did not return to Salamanca until 5am the following morning, where a call from Pascual was waiting for him. As punishment for his antics, the club have taken away €3000 Euros of his wages, and dumped the former Figueirense utility man in the ‘B’ team.

It will be a true test of his character, desire and mentality if Botelho is to turn his career around and fulfil his awesome potential. Arsène Wenger is known for helping transform the fortunes of “bad boys” like he did with Tony Adams – some of the Frenchman’s vast experience of people skills will definitely be needed with Pedro.

Perhaps his next loan period should be at Pompey then.

If this was an English kid who had done this people would question his attitude but because Pedro Botello is not he will probably get less stick.

Not okay, simple as that. While he is still 18, he has to cut that kind of behaviour out… You do not make it in top flight football if you are skipping trainings for pleasure rides, no matter how talented you are. Grow up, Pedro.

Harsh no? All he did was watch a match with his friends.

Should be just let off if it was a one time thing…considering he’s not their player.

Seems as if the management don’t even rate him over there and have been looking for a reason for a long time to keep him from the first team… Salamanca need to start being a true partner club and start playing these talents we ship over there who are clearly head and shoulders above the majority of the players they already have! I can see another Nordtveit situation goin on if he remains in the B team, he’d be better off with the reserves depending on the work permit situation!?

he is a total idiot , makes you wonder if gallas was actually rite in saying what he said. Why do these players think they are superstars , they should just buckle down and work hard. Watch a game of footie is not bad but playinh hookie from training is.

I think it’s good to see that Salamanca have shown a strong attitude in relation to this. It shows they are not willing to accept misbehaviour, which bodes well for our linkup with them for the future. Arsenal need Salamanca to prepare young talents to develop into top level professionals, and thus, it should not be a holiday camp for kids who think they have already made it…

Of course we only hear the end of the story. If UDS have been having endless trouble with him, this is the only thing we’ll actually hear, and then we’ll make a judgment without knowing the full story.

I remember with Pennant how he scored the hatrick against Southampton and Wenger was quite reserved in his comments afterwards. Wenger knew what we didn’t – that Pennant was full of nonsense and his future at the club was limited. He went on to prove how right Wenger was.

But then again, players like RVP and Diaby prove that you can come right when you make the choice. It’s up to Pedro to decide, and this kind of thing is just part of growing up.
