Arsenal's Sunu Set For Summer Switch To Lyon

Gilles Sunu is set to quit Arsenal in the summer, with reigning French Champions Olympique Lyonnais ready to take 17-year-old back to his home land.

Sunu joined the Gunners in January 2006 from Chateauroux, but injuries dogged his opening campaign with the club. However, this season has seen a complete transformation in his fortunes, with four strikes for Steve Bould’s Under 18’s.

Gilles has been given a new lease of life on the wing, but has found his chances to progress into the Reserves heavily restricted. The fleet-footed prospect was also frustrated by being left out of the Carling Cup squad this year, and has made his disappointment known to the coaching staff.

Lyonnais are famed for their amazing Academy, which sees players live at the training ground full time, and undertake a strict daily routine. Players must wake at 6am, before having breakfast, and then school. They begin training at 4pm, and return to their accommodation at 8pm. All services are provided at the training complex.

On two separate occasions Lyon have attempted to sign Sunu, and it’s believed that come the summer, they will finally have their man. His departure would be a disappointing one for Gooners, who saw ‘Gilou’ touted as the new Thierry Henry upon his arrival in North London.

He would also join French Under 19 team mates Clement Grenier and Yanis Tafer at the Stade Gerland, safe in the knowledge that performing on a regular basis in his home land would enhance his chances of further progression on the international scene.

The kid is garbage and i said that the first time i saw him play, and whoever scouted Giles Sunu must have had an off day.

Lyon are the reigning champions i think you mean ;) good blog though, but I cant really see it being a terrible loss. What will the cost of the transfer be, and will there be a buy back clause?

    Ahhhh…
Well, I guess Sunu might have also been frightened by Arsenal’s overall performances of late.

Wow, what a waste. Buy him for a million and when he finally starts to play well we’re gonna let him go? Let’s hope this isn’t true.

I’m a little bit disappointed, but i can’t say i have been too impressed whenever i have seen him play.

We should include a sell-on clause when we sell him though, as generally players leaving Lyon leave for big money.

    So is this for sure?

It would be a shame that he doesn’t have the patience to wait it out. Lansbury is England u-19 Captain and he didnt get a starting berth in the Carling Cup.

How much would he go for if he went? I should imagine we would put in a first right to buy clause in the contract if he signed for Lyon.

Done better but tbh would he have made it as a decent winger when he prefers being up front (where we are already congested).

He was supposed to be the new fucking Henry. He will probably become a great striker at Lyon and Arsenal will hav made another terrible blunder. Sad to see him go.

He’s extremely talented and the comparisons to henry are just because he has a similar style to Henry and i could definitely see him being as influential for us as Henry was. I just hope these reports are false. J, where did you find this info?

Okay, old story, but this must surely be rubbish?..
Just asked Benik Afobe on facebook if Gilou is leaving for Lyon this summer and he said no. Btw, the two of them were out shopping with Francis Coq. ^^
