Walcott, Bendtner & Vela Among World's Best Kids

Young Arsenal forwards Theo Walcott, Nicklas Bendtner and Carlos Vela have been named among some of the brightest talents in world football.

Italian sports newspaper Tuttosport announced their prestigious ‘Golden Boy’ awards earlier this month. Manchester United’s Anderson collected the 2008 trophy from fellow South America Sergio Aguero, but the Brazilian had to fight of Arsenal’s Walcott in a tight battle for the crown.

Just three points separated the duo in the end, but Theo will be eligible to try his luck again next season. Should he manage togo one better, he will join his captain – Cesc Fabregas – on the list of Gunners who have won the award.

Not to be outdone, Nicklas Bendtner finished a respectable 11th, beating players such as Gareth Bale, Angel Di Maria, Micah Richards and Juan Mata. Three further votes would have pushed the flamboyant Dane inside the top 10.

Further down the rankings, Carlos Vela joined Bale, Richards and Mata in joint 20th, with three votes each. Aaron Ramsey was one of the youngest players short listed, however he failed to pick up a single vote. Chelsea’s Franco Di Santo and Tottenham’s Giovani Dos Santos were also left voteless.

You can see the complete list and what votes they received Here.

Good news for Arsenal fans though Vela should have been higher. Anyway Wilshere will be surely pushing next year and watch out for Danijel Aleksic. I know Arsene was interested but the guy is the biggest striking prospect from Eastern Europe since Berbatov. Big clubs do battle.

Much as I love those players, the award’s not really prestigious at all, is it?

More like why are people voting for Anderson? He can’t kick the ball at all. There was once he took a free kick 20 yards from goal and it went so far wide it turned out to be a throw in for the opposition.

Anderson has never scored for Man Utd and he won it – why?

It is very prestigious. It’s the main award that recognises young talents in the world.

Aguero and Rooney have been presented it before games, and the United fans have been siging songs about Anderson winning it.

Can’t believe Anderson won it. He’s not even a regular in the Utd squad. But looking at the list of names, can’t say that any have been significantly better than the rest over the past year.

Anderson is overrated. I was a fan of his last season but he seems to have gone backwards. I still think he could turn out to be quite a player but he should never be ahead of the likes of Pato, Vela, Bojan or Richards as the best talent. Also to degrade this list: Almost all of the players there are strikers or very attacking minded players. Plus, somebody actually voted for Freddy Adu.
To be fair, I would say that Bojan and Aguero were both bigger prospects than Walcott.

The award is prestigious but why in the world did Anderson win out of all those players. What the heck, Sergio Aguero and Theo are better then him. Vela too

The reason why we didn’t sign Anderson was because Porto wanted 20 million pounds for him. It’s as simple as that.

phader…the crazy money and great gamble united took for a quite unproven player might be the case. was over 20 mill bucks i believe. like wenger said about ronaldo, united took the gamble he bailed out because of the sums for a young player. think the sum is 23 anelka was about 27,wenger bought among thierry henry, pires and lots of others for that.so great gamble, something to wonder about thinking the debts of utd. ronaldo was a good one

The reason we did not sign Anderson is because we have Francesc Fabregas and also he cost Manchester United around £18 Million Pounds from Porto and Arsene Wenger does not have that kind of money to spend on a single football player.

Walcott? No 2?? Lucky to be in the top 20, even though I’m not sure about how good a lot of them are, but there has to be at least 20 gifted young players with a better football brain than lil Theo..

well they had to have saw him when they saw Vela in the World Cup because Mexico beat Brazil. Don’t know if we didn’t need him or just didn’t want him.

Walcott? So overrated! I mean, sure, there was the Liverpool run at the start of the year. And how he dominanted the Milan full backs. And then the first English player to score a hatrick in forever in a competetive game, and from the wing. And those run of games at the start of the season where he was constantly man of the match (twente/blackburn/bolton etc.). But overrated. Obviously.

Oh, and that United game at the Emirates in which he made Evra look a bit rubbish and confused the hell out of Vidic. But who are they? Any defenders can be current Champions League Winners these days.

I don’t think Theo has a great footballing brain either but if you think about it, he’s still 19 and he is playing out of position (although he should be more intelligent positionally than he is after playing in that position for quite a while) and without him we’ve looked incredibly flat and one-dimensional. I’m assuming Aguero wasn’t up for the award this year, and if he was, then he should’ve won with ease because he is genuinely world class and much better than any of the other players on that list.
