Arsenal Yet To Make Decision On Trialist Wellington

Contrary to reports on several websites over the past two days, Arsenal are yet to make a decision on whether to sign Brazilian forward Wellington. Furthermore, the 15-year-old has now returned to parent club Fluminense.

The diminutive striker recently completed a 7 day trial with Arsenal, and showed his quality with a quadruple of strikes against Norwich City in a 8-4 romp. However, despite tentative enquiries, Liam Brady and his staff are yet to give the green light to push through a deal.

Reports emerged yesterday that the Brazilian was still at Hale End, and scored a double as the Under 16’s brushed aside Ipswich Town. This was completely unfounded – as it was Jernade Meade and two Under 14 players who secured the win for Steve Gatting’s side.

What’s the skinny on Amaury Bischoff, Jay? After appearing on the bench vs Bolton he quickly disappeared and was replaced by Fran yesterday. Is this all part of AW’s acclimitisation plan?

“You might have read in the recent past about a young Brazilian called ‘Wellington’ being on trial with the club. Well, I can tell you he’s signed from Fluminense and will join us in the summer. Cue all manner of boot related quips.”

    Arseblogger.

    Hmmm.. usually arseblogger’s pretty reliable.

And he’s been around a lot longer than J, so probably has more/better contacts in the club.

Fran Merida replaced Jack Wilshere on the bench yesterday, whereas Bischoff was replaced by the returning Alex Song.

He wasn’t dropped for any reason of his own, just Song had returned to fitness. Bischoff should play against Stoke on Tuesday/Wednesday.

    Also –

I don’t think how long you’ve been posting is a fair way to judge who has more contacts or sources. A poster asked me about Wellington’s potential signing, so I asked around, and this is where we’ve come to.

Sorry about that comment J, you may be right. On the other hand, Arseblogger does seem very well connected.

No problem mate, I’m not trying to step on his toes, but we’ll wait and see.

Athlon – SkySports reported today the same news about the trial that we did in midweek. No movement on the deal as of yet.

I can let everyone know that a decision has been made about signing Wellington! He will sign on his 16th birthday which is on the 6th of February. He can not sign before this as he is from another Fifa confederation.Luis Gustavo Conte has signed a pre contract between Arsenal and Mirrassol as he is also to young to sign for a European club.

I read that Wellington has signed and will return in the summer

Jay you did a piece on a 14 year old spanish winger earlier in the year think he played for barca what ever happened to him as he looked as good a potential player as anyone I have seen.

Heh. There’s so much that needs correcting in there it’s hard to know where I should begin. Safe to say it’s not an academy decision, and the coaches wanted the club to sign him after a couple of days of training, even before his trial match against Norwich (which was 8-5, not 8-4). And the u-16s played at Shenley yesterday, not Hale End. And… never mind. He’s coming, in the summer, that’s what’s important.

But at least you did get the date right.

My sister works in the Arsenal shop and on Friday whilst working, as the first team have a team meeting at the Emirates the day before a weekend game, Bischoff came into the shop and my sister served him.

He was a bit shy, but she did ask when he’ll be involved with the first team games more regularly and he said in maybe a month, but that its upto the boss. I think he will have 2-3 more reserve games in that time, plus may also be on the bench this weekend vs Cardiff.

“what’s going on with frimpong and coquelin in terms of progress?”

They’re both progressing well in my opinion. Coquelin looks like he could be a brilliant replacement for Flamini in a season or two, but possibly better, and Frimpong always reminded me a bit of Essien and looks like hes gradually building the confidance he needs to perform to the top of his abilities and improving technically. As long as they both avoid serious injury over the next couple of seasons both look like they have a real chance of doing something here, especially Coquelin although Frimpong hasnt been given the oppertunities that Coquelin has had.
