Jack Wilshere had a double celebration when he woke up this morning. Not only was it the wingers 17th birthday, but his scholarship deal turned into a professional contract with the Gunners.
The terms are unknown, but it’s believed to be as long as eight years in length. It will see Jack become a full time player with the club, meaning he will now stop attending extra school lessons in a bid to keep total focus on being a footballer.
Many believe Wilshere has the potential to become one of the greatest players in the club’s history, but today marks a significant step in his development. He can also expect to add a couple of zero’s to his current pay packet – matching the sort of money that Chelsea offered him last season.
SkySports pundit Andy Gray picked out the prospect as one of the stars to watch out for in 2009, in a list which included Manchester United’s Rafael da Silva and Chelsea’s Franco di Santo.
Despite media reports, don’t expect Wilshere to be leaving on loan anytime soon. It promises to be an exciting few years in Jack’s development, but Arsène Wenger is known to keep his most exciting youngsters at the club.
Young Guns would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Jack on his new contract, and wish all our readers a fantastic 2009.

That’s cool, come on Jack!! :DD
J! Do you know anything new about Lenny?
Fantastic news.He is gonna be a superstar!!!
Would like him to finish high school, at least.
yeah! the great news i’ve been waiting for ! jack is going to be an arsenal legend in the future
Woohoo, I’m so happy he’s signed his contract, this guy is gonna be a real gem at Arsenal.
Our first signing of 2009 and it is a blinder. Well done to Jack. He has looked mint when playing and we have alot to look forward to.
J, I’ve been told that he is on a £15,000 a week contract from a reliable source. Isn’t this a bit much for us to pay a 17 year old, as we are normally a club associated with not paying players as much as they could get elsewhere?
excellent news,i bet wenger will use him a lot more now that hes signed up,i was getting a little worried with chelsea sniffing around him, this guy is absolute class.
We published an article about a month ago about Lenny. From what I was told, it’s simply not true.
H – I’m not sure about that, maybe around £8k a week.
Do all players stop going to college once they turn 17?
It’s £12,000, and he hasn’t signed yet, all details will be tied up in the morning and it’ll be signed after training tomorrow. Not sure when Arsenal.com will make an announcement, probably on Saturday or Monday.
awesome mann….da guy is brilliant…hez goin to b a legend im sure:) btw every1…check out ma new blog.. http://arseneknowsbest.wordpress.com/
i want readers…a blog is nothing without readers!
Will he be giving up his paper round now?
J, ive been away for a while and wanted to know about the news of us signing the two serbs Aleksic and Ljalic, is it going to happen. And do you have any news on us highjacking uniteds move for Tosic. Would surely be worth it?
thanks
J will this wellington or conte be that south american we would get will he go on loan, can he??
spike, he has to give up his tesco job now not paperround jeez.
Unfortunately, yes. :)
but now hes a professional footballer
Great news. Great stuff as always J.
All I pray is that we keep hold of the likes of Cesc, Nasri, van Persie etc by the time Wilshere is strong enough and ready for the premier league. It will be a joy to behold.
about lenny chck out Wikipedia. He is on loan back in brazil should be in our squad in june. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenny_Fernandes_Coelho
You can’t trust Wikipedia for this sort of things you know. Even I could edit, say, Messi’s page and write that he is going to join Ebbsfleet in the summer. About Wilshere, all I can say is great news!
Oh and how can we loan him back as part of the deal, anyway? Surely as his contract has expired yesterday he is not bound to any commitments to Palmeiras hence not needing to negotiate anything with them. In fact if we indeed sign him he should already be at Arsenal now, or Salamanca if he didn’t get a work permit. Why should we send him back on loan to Palmeiras of all teams when we could send him to Salamanca in order to get a work permit.
8 years is along time.
HAIL TO THE FUTURE KING OF NORTH LONDON!!!

great…great young talent. prodigy comes to mind. pay the lad the money he’s worth and deserves for his future years of service and brilliance to the club. well done Arsene, you’ve produced the best young talent that England has seen in a quite a while.
I hope he could be a great replacement for Cesc Fabregas.
Hehe…funny how close a relationship Daily Star has established with Hill-Wood lately…he must be spending a lot of time on the couch with the editor :)
H – You’re completely wrong there. We don’t pay TOP level players as much, but our youth players are on massive contracts compared with their contemporaries at Man Utd/Liverpool. Wenger likes a degree of equality. So I can believe Wilshere may well be on £10k. Traore has been on £15k for some years.
Weir you are right. Perhaps we dont get him cause he just have not the stamina to play in EPL! We will see! Hope we will sign Arshavin and Rosina on loan and 1 holding midfielder!
Our only signing off 2009
i always knew he was young, but only realised that he just turn 17. huge prospect for english football.
its fantastic news! I love the hobbit’s football style! Go jack!
Fantastic news, thanks JS!
Very well done and congrats Jack!! :)
8 years is a big risk because my fear is that what if he thinks he has made it then a change of attitude and he might turn out to be like pennant.but so far wilshere seem to be level headed so hopefully he will stay that way
I don’t know why this web site selectively disables certain person’s blogs even when they follow rules.
arsenal4ever: That information is wrong. Lenny hasn’t signed and will not. That information could have been written by me or you and is wrong. He is not on loan from Arsenal, he is on loan to braga.
J, just out of curiosity does Wilshere play for the reserves, U-18s or both? And who is the captain of both? Thanks in advanced.
Just the Reserves mate.
Gavin Hoyte was the captain of the Reserves, but he’s left on loan, so maybe Nordtveit will retake the armband.
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas is the skipper of the Under 18’s, Frimpong and Ayling are vice-captains.
Well done Jack. Hes a brilliant player, i was exited about him for ages nd then i saw him play for the reserves against west ham (the first time id ever watched a full game where he was included) nd he took my breath away.
btw…whats with all this Lenny stuff? Must be a hoax, why would we sign a 20 year old striker whos hardly ever scored, couldent even get into the Braga side when he was on loan there for a season, nd will get in the way of Bendtner nd Velas development not to mention balls up any chances Barazite, Fonte or Murphy have of playing for the club.
Is this definite about Wilshere signing? with all of the media clamour over Wilshere I would have thought Arsenal would have put it on their own website that he’d signed.
£15k a week and a huge signing on fee. i was with his bro when he came home that day. iv’e been waiting for jack to turn pro for a very long time now and i can honestly say it was a very proud moment for me because me and his brother have been pretty much best friends for our whole lives and we got jack playing football so all you arsenal fans owe me a drink ;) lucky buggers on having such a great talent
