Video – Watch Jay Simpson's £3,750 West Brom Goal

Jay Simpson‘s first goal for West Brom proved to be an important one on two fronts for the Baggies. Not only was it key to helping his new employers through to the fourth round of the FA Cup, but it also proved to be a money spinning one for Tony Mowbray’s men.

The prize money for booking a place in the fourth round is £7,500 – meaning Simpson’s effort was worth £3,750, as was Paul Robinson’s well taken second – which safely saw the Albion past a defiant Peterborough United.

You can watch the Arsenal loanees goal below, along with the best highlights of the 3rd round replay. Note that the commentator is the same man as Arsenal TV’s Academy League Highlight show.

The prize fund is actually 75,000 for winning the third round, they will also receive a minimum of 7,500 for being in the fourth round for the highlights of the match, a further 160,000 if the match is chosen for TV and another 80,000 if the tie goes to a replay which is shown on TV. The prize fund for the fourth round is 100,000. If the match is on the radio they get another 9,000. Gate receipts go on top of that too.

So WBA have earned a lot more than 7,500 as you say

Damn it tells me I can’t view the video because they are having “technical issues”. I guess because I live outside of the UK. Shiiiiittt! Do you know if youtube or any other website might have the video of the goal?

Hey JS, do you know anywhere else I can see this goal? I don’t think the video plays for people here in the U.S.

Lets just hope they get United in the next round and Simpson strikes again to blow away the reds without Rooney and Evra.

best wishes to all gunners fans and thanks to Wenger for allowing this bright young man to help us. as a club we always try to follow a similar philosophy on and off the pitch to Arsenal, albeit on a smaller scale so we are grateful for the help in trying to stay up this time. he looks a great lad for the future for you and hopefully he will develop his Premiership experience in the 6 months at the Albion

    wooo….that one flew in.

Like i said on a previous atricle however, hes always had a habit of scoring scortchers, any1 whos got atv online can check the old reserve highlights where he was involved nd see that. The question isnt can he do that cuz he can, or can he do that again because thats a yes aswell, but how often can he do that. Thats the difference between him being good enough for a side like west brom nd a side like us. 5 times a season for west brom + a few assists is fine, but for us hes gotta show more, hes gotta beable to score twist and turn like he can against any opposition in any compatition at any level. Im not saying he has to show it this season because hes still young but he has to show it in the coming 2 seasons nd thats the only thing im not convinced he can do. Still, considering his versitality meaning he can play on either wing, front front and probably just off a lone striker and his performances over the last season and pre-season, plus the loan spell to premier league opposition, plus the contract, the future is looking alot brighter for Simpson than it did a couple of seasons back.

    up front not front front*

Only thing im concerned about is now Simpson’s future is brighter where does this leave Barazite? Hes younger i know but not that much younger and will undoubtably be hoping for some first team football come next season. If its a choice id like us to go with Barazite. Despite Simpsons nationality, personality and the fact hes a gooner, Barazite has just always shown a confidance and ability that makes me believe he can be awesome for us and Holland one day given the oppertunities.

Johnny M: It’s cool. Barazite has been playing at RW for Derby, and you know Wenger chooses where they go based on things like how they play them (and how long) – so they might not be competiting with each other (just the likes other Bendtner/Vela for Simpson and Theo/Wilshere for Barazite – lol… *gulp* it’ll be esay!)

Lol…if someone told me i was competeing with Theo and Wilshire id give up there and then. But i guess thats why Barazite is at Arsenal and im sat at home reading about him rolling a cigarette not having kicked a ball for 4 months.

Still…i duno where it leaves Murphy, Fonte and Sunu. But no matter, only time will tell.

Just been watching the Wenger interview about Arshavin nd the 100million man Kaka, i meen you give Wenger 100 million he could probably set up another team. Getting abit worried that Arshavin is the only player we’re linked with nd even that, what ever Wenger says, doesnt look all that likely unless he’ll pay out 20mil+ which he probably would for a 28 year old (come the end of the season) he once said didnt have enough stamina to play in the premier league.

Talking about our young forwards, we have almost too much talent there it seems. If we count those who can play up front and are 20 or less:

    ’88 – Bendtner, Simpson
    ’89 – Vela, Walcott
    ’90 – Murphy, Fonte, Barazite
    ’91 – Sunu, Watt

Obviously most of those players will leave us within too long. Vela and Walcott are future stars and already established internationals. Murhpy might never express his potential because of his constant injuries. Fonte is not good enough despite improving this season. Sunu is a mystery I think, Watt is not agressive enough and will not make it, I think. Barazite definately has the potential to make it but will have to work very hard with all this competition. Bendtner, I believe and have expressed very often here, will still be with us for years to come. He is great and will show all you doubters what he is capable of. And Simpson is like Sunu, they have the right attitude but the question remains if they are talented enough.

Simpson still isn’t better than Barazite, Walcott, Bendtner or Vela. Walcott scores for England all the time and hes a year younger than Simpson. We cannot have so many strikers and Simpson is the same age as Bendtner. One of them must be sold and Simpson is a weaker player than Bendtner.
