Lansbury Rejected Premiership Offer To Join Iron

Henri Lansbury has revealed how he rejected offers from Premiership and Championship club’s to sign for Scunthorpe United on loan.

The 18-year-old was penciled in for a place on United’s bench last night, after spending just a few hours getting to know his new team mates. However, a late pitch inspection saw the fixture called off, leaving the midfielder frustrated.

“I was looking forward to watching the team and see how they play tonight, but hopefully I’ll get in the team for the next game.”

Many were surprised that one of the country’s biggest prospects will ply his trade in League One – for the next month at least – and Henri admits he did have offers higher up the football spectrum, but chose the Iron after talking with international colleague Krystian Pearce and the manager Nigel Adkins.

“I had an offer to play in the Championship and with a Premiership club.”

“But I spoke to the manager at Scunthorpe and he said ‘Come down here and you’ll play football.’ I also spoke to Krystian and he told me they play good football and it’s a good club.”

“Krystian sold it to me. He put in a good word, so I wanted to come here.”

Henri is well aware that their is a competitive squad of experienced players already at Glanford Park, but should he force his way into the team, the Enfield born youngster has already set firm targets.

“I just want to get some games, I’ve come here to get some experience. I hope to get Scunthorpe promoted, and to get to Wembley.”

Lansbury’s new side have a 2-0 advantage over Rotherham from the first leg of the Johnson’s Paint Trophy Northern area final, and should they see of the Millers in the second leg, they would take on the winners of Brighton V Luton at Wembley. That’s the type of experience Henri could only dream of getting at such a young age.

he hopes to get to wembley for the vans trophy or play off, either way that seems a bit further than the one month loan he has signed! he must have assurances that if he fits in he’l extend to the end of season.

Scunthorpe is a tremendous club and will look after Henri very very well indeed. He will do well there, take it from me.

Makes sense for him really. Look at the difference Jay Simpson’s loan spell in League one had in comparison to those of Gibbs’ and Randall in the Championship

If Lansbury plays regularly for Scunthorpe, then its a good move. They play decent football and beats watching a championship or prem game from the bench/stands. he can do that atc Arsenal!

JS. Do you think Le Coq might have been left out of the CL squad because he will be loaned out? The same goes for Nordveit, might he be loaned out?

Hi Frank -lets see what Bischoff can do, he may get his chance as Arshavin is cup tied. maybe Wenger is preparing a squad that will be better equipped to deal with injuries & also less predictable for the opposition which has recently become an issue.

If you had to compare Lansbury to a current footballer who would it be? What are his strengths and weaknesses and do you think he will make it big?

Gteat blog as always. It’s so hard to find news on the reserves/youth team. Anyone know much about Cabeye? I’ve only heard reports, so I don’t know him. Probably media just fuelling the transfer fire, but anyway. Also, I have heard whispers of Appiah as a potential free transfer. I haven’t seen much of him either, anyone fill me in?

Lansbury rejected a move to our Spanish feeder club Salamanca earlier in the season. I think he is too choosy about which club to join.

Totally off subject, but when everyone is fit is this team too attacking to compete (4-2-3-1)

    Almunia
    Sagna-Djourou-Toure-Clichy
    Fabregas-Rosicky
    Van Persie-Nasri-Arshavin
    Adebayor

Suns, Fabianski, Gallas, Song, Diaby, Walcott, Vela, Bendtner

The reason Coquelin has been left out is that Bischoff is now fit and that we cannot put him or Nordveit in due to them not being academy products of 5 years standing

Henri’s Loan Is A min of 1 month but a maximum of 3 months!! which would be close to the end of the season.

drogbabas – Nicholas has gone & has been in and around the man city reserves for a while now!

bc – I’d say that would be too attacking and i can see one of the strikers leaving next season even if it is on loan. Wenger understands the need for a DM and possibly a CB but just hasn’t been able to identify an justifyable player for the ‘right’ price! Yaya & Agger would make us world beaters again next season!
