Loanees – Barazite's Learning Curve & Lansbury's Debut

Welcome to this weekends Loanees Watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal currently have thirteen Reserve team players gaining experience elsewhere. Armand Traoré and Jay Simpson remain in the top flight with Portsmouth and West Brom respectively, whilst Gavin Hoyte, Nacer Barazite and Rui Fonte are playing Championship football for Watford, Derby County and Crystal Palace.

Further down the divisions, League One sides Leicester City, Northampton Town and Scunthorpe United have Kerrea Gilbert, Paul Rodgers and Henri Lansbury, while fellow defenders Abu Ogogo and Rene Steer will ply their trade with League Two Barnet and Gillingham. Two prospects are cutting their teeth aboard – Vincent van den Berg at Dutch minnows FC Zwolle, and Pedro Botelho with Spanish link club UD Salamanca.

In this update you can read about the following players in the following games.

Henri Lansbury – Scunthorpe 0-2 Bristol Rovers – (45 Minutes)

Abu Ogogo – Barnet 0-2 Notts County – (Injured)

Nacer Barazite – Derby County 1-4 Manchester United

Nacer Barazite started on the right hand side of Derby’s midfield this afternoon, as they took on Manchester United at Pride Park in the F.A Cup.

The Dutchman was part of the Derby squad which beat United on the same ground in the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final – becoming the first outfit to beat the Red Devil’s since they became world Champions.

County’s energy and work rate had United flustered in the opening stages. Tenacious Barazite did his defensive duties in racing back to tackle Evra on the touchline, he then got up and robbed Ronaldo of the rebound.

Not content with just winning the ball, the 18-year-old galloped down the field, dancing beyond Fletcher, before running into traffic up the other end.

The hosts then cut open Derby with some super one-touch football, leading to Bywater saving from Fletcher. Nacer then blocked Ronaldo’s free-kick after Nani was tripped – proving that he’s not only gaining experience in attacking roles, but also learning the defensive side of being a winger.

A dragged shot from Barazite, and then a tame penalty appeal from Rob Hulse was about as good as it got for the Rams, before Nani danced inside and smashed Man Utd into a 29th minute lead.

An unbelievably late flag from the linesman saw Ronaldo’s calm finish ruled out, giving Derby some hope heading towards the break. That was extinguished with 2 minutes of the half left when Darren Gibson lashed Ronaldo’s parried free-kick into the corner.

Any hopes of a come back were gone within moments of the second half whistle. Ronaldo glanced home Giggs’ corner, and the tie was effectively over.

That was until 3 minutes short of the hour mark, when Savage took the ball of Barazite and fed Commons the wing. The Scottish maestro whipped a deep cross onto the head of Miles Addison, who crashed home from close range.

The Rams sensed a come back. Barazite’s direct run saw County break away at pace, but the Dutchman neglected to pass early, and the latters cross was poorly controlled by Hulse.

Naz won a duel of nerves up against Ronaldo, before being substituted on 62 minutes. A brief rally from the hosts was finally ended with 10 minutes left, as Danny Welbeck’s superb finish wrapped up the win. It came after Derby showed the sort of grit and determination needed to get out of the Championship.

Gavin Hoyte – Watford 1-3 Chelsea

Gavin Hoyte played the full 90 minutes as unfortunate Watford ran manager-less Chelsea right to the wire in the F.A Cup yesterday afternoon.

The Hornet’s battled bravely in the opening stages, and could have had the lead when Hoyte glanced Williamson’s free kick into the arms of Cech when he should have scored.

A couple of slips at the back from the loanee were not punished by Chelsea, and with just 20 minutes of the tie left, Watford put themselves in prime position for the shock of the round. Tamas Priskin’s sublime lob looked like it could and should have been the winner.

However, 6 minutes later Nicolas Anelka levelled. Not content with that, 2 minutes later he put the Blues in front, before completing his hat-trick in stoppage time.

Henri Lansbury – Scunthorpe 0-2 Bristol Rovers

Henri Lansbury made his Scunthorpe United debut as a second half substitute yesterday, but couldn’t help his new side avoid defeat to Bristol Rovers.

Scunthorpe began the brighter, and could have taken the lead through efforts from Hayes, Hooper and McCann. However, it was Rovers who bagged the opener, when Daryl Duffy finished a sweeping team move on 21 minutes.

10 minutes later Jo Kuffour made it 2-0, leaving the Iron chasing a fixture they had dominated. The half time whistle saw Lansbury replace the injured Martyrn Woolford, in a midfield switch around.

Henri’s best moment came when his right wing cross was turned against his own post by Steven Elliot. But he couldn’t make the difference, and it finished 2-0.

Kerrea Gilbert – Leicester 1-1 Swindon

Kerrea Gilbert played the full 90 minutes as stuttering Leicester City drew 1-1 with Swindon. Simon Cox’s 38th minute opener looked like it had decided the contest, before Andy King’s late strike rescued an unlikely point.

Armand Traoré – Portsmouth 2-0 Manchester City

Armand Traoré was forced to sit out Portsmouth’s 2-0 win over Manchester City yesterday through injury. Glen Johnson’s solo strike put the manager-less outfit in front, before Herman Hreidersson completed the win 5 minutes later.

Pedro Botelho – UD Salamanca 1-2 C.D Xerez

Pedro Botelho played the full 90 minutes as UD Salamanca’s promotion push took a further setback with defeat to C.D Xerez. After just 11 minutes the Union were behind, when Momo finished well after good work from Jozy Altidore.

A second half own goal from Antonio Calle brought Salamanca back into it, before Calle made amends with the winner 16 minutes later.

Botelho received one of the highest scores from Union fans in their player ratings, after several powerful runs and crosses, which deserved to be converted.

Rene Steer – Gillingham 0-2 Rotherham United

Rene Steer was an unused substitute as Gillingham slumped to a 2-0 defeat to Rotherham United. Goals from Jamie Clarke and Jamie Green sealed the win.

Abu Ogogo – Barnet 0-2 Notts County

Abu has returned to Arsenal to receive further treatment on a stomach injury. He subsequently missed yesterday’s 2-0 defeat to Notts County.

think you’ve got the salamanca score wrong in the title – should be 2-1 to the opposition?

Ogogo doesn’t seem goo enough to be honest. Same with Gilbert. Pedro Botelho seems like a very interesting prospect and i’ve like Lansbury whenever i’ve seen him play.

1 slight mistake, it says salamanca 2 CD Zerez 1

I watched Gavin Hoyte have a very good game against two of the sharpest forwards in the world in Drogba and Le Sulk. Thought he handled himself well at right back and did well against Kalou. He’s a prospect

Nacer still has a bit to learn but that’s two games more he’s had against Man U than he would have done without the loan opportunity. Good 60 minutes worth. I thought he looked a bit locked out on the right, for me he’s better in central mid-field.

Is that jo kuffour you mention the same as the jo osei kuffour who were in our squad a couple of years ago? What ever happend to him if he plats for Bristol now? Thought he was a decent prospect… And off topic, anyone remember that arsenal youngster who died in a traffic accident in italy on his vacation some time ago? I Believe his name was omer riza, is that true?

Jo Osei Kuffour was in our squad about 8 years ago, not a couple. And our youth back then was nowhere near the standard it is now. The youngster you mention who tragically died was Niccolo Galli, a young Italian centreback tipped to do big things. Omer Riza is still playing football I believe.

just went to derby united game to chek on barra and i was mostly impressed with his defensive abilities and certainly showed glimpses of his attacking prowness by knobbing and another player but found it hard against one of the best leftbacks in the world.

I watched Football Matters yesterday on Setanta Sport and Ian Holloway mentionned that Beckham is finding playing in the MLS difficult because he is a very good passer of the ball but nobody in the MLS is making those clever run and so he cannot pass. Barazite is having the same problem, even when he lead a break nobody is making angle run. By not making those angle runs the defender does not have to make any decision.
Nowadays the main difference between Premisership and Championship is not the level of fitness nor the technical ability but the cleverness and football brain.
Moft Championship team have been properly coach, so often their original position is OK, but when face with unexpected movements they do not know how to adapt or do not react quickly enough to close down dangerous situation. It is the same in attack, often they often rely on somebody running quickly on the wing and crossing the ball without knowing how to create the danger in the first place.

For Nani’s goal, you could clearly see that the right back should have stick with him, but because there was three Manchester United players on the left and only one Derby’s midfield player, Derby righ back kind of stop. Not knowing to stick or twist. The extra yard of space Nani got let him shoot and score.
