Scunthorpe United boss Nigel Adkins will no doubt be patting himself on the back this morning, 24 hours after agreeing to bring Arsenal starlet Henri Lansbury in on loan.
Henri will make the trip to Lincolnshire on Monday morning where he will, subject to a medical, wrap up the final details of the transfer. Contrary to some reports, the 18-year-old will only be at Glanford Park for the short term – until the 28th of February to be precise.
The move came after Adkins spoke of his desire to bring in versatile and promising youngsters to bolster his promotion chasing squad. Speaking to the Scunthorpe Telegraph – a paper Young Guns has close links with – on Thursday, the Iron boss said:
“We have got a youngster lined up to come in”
“It has all been agreed – but he has to play one more game for that club and who knows what can happen during that. “
“He has to navigate his way through that game and not get injured. But alll being well he will be joining us on Monday.”
“We are trying to have that flexibility and that is definitely what this youngster can provide us with.”
Scunthorpe have a strong tradition of developing young players, from the early days to where they nurtured former England international Kevin Keegan, to the present where Birmingham’s England Under 19 centre half Krystian Pearce is currently thriving.
Adkins also took Chelsea’s Jack Cork on loan last term, where he helped transform Cork from a player with flashes of potential, into a consistent performer for club and country.
The experience will no doubt mature young Lansbury, who has a reputation of being some what of a ‘party boy’. The majority of his new team mates are family orientated people, and a spell away from his friends and family in a promotion chasing outfit should do him no end of good.
Henri will pull on the Claret & Blue for the first time on Tuesday evening.

I’ve long been a fan of Lansbury and I have high hopes for him. I’d love to see him, Randall and Simpson all make it at the Arse and with Wilshere and Walcott we’ll have the future core of the England team at the Emirates!
‘England international Kevin Keagan’
^^^dude is killing it next to Lampard and Rooney, ey?
hi J
is there any truth to the rumour about Koke from athletico close to signing for us?
Cheers JS for the news. I personally rate Lansbury better than Mark Randall. But his injury meant he had to make up for the lost time a little bit. It’s good that he can now go away and gain some experience. How do you rate him compared to say Thomas, Gibbs, Traore, Ramsey and Wilshere who can also play in midfield?
Sorry to go off topic JS – we’ve been hearing about this kid called Wellington from Brazil. Is it true that we gave him a trial and he’ll join us in summer? What do you know about him?

Mirror journalists are piss poor. I wouldn’t believe them if they said the world was round.
I think Lansbury was really highly rated and big things expected before anyone thoughtn Wilshire would do anything.
Goin out on loan will be great for him and , hopefully, the loan will get extended to the end of the season and he can come back a better player and lose the charlie big spuds reputation!
Having him, Wilshire, Ramsey, Merida, Gibbs, Coquelin, Jay E-T, Simpson a year older and better next season will be effin fantasticoooooooooo!!!!
Jay E.Thomas looks too good. I also really rate barazite and frimpong, but Randalls talk bemuses me, he looks at best average.
The problem is we got too many CM, wenger keeps buying CM and playing the wide.
Lansbury will play for our first team just like how Sergi Busquet has for Barcelona. When he is 20-21…he’ll get into our first team rotation. I hope we keep a hold of him an don’t sell him. He will become a very good player in the future.
Why the hell are we not hijacking the Veloso-Bolton move? Thats probbly not goin to happen now but Sporting have shown that they are willing to sell, we need to buy. If not himm then Angelo Palombo from Samp who is superb. As well as Arsh.
Does this mean Lansbury will miss the chance to lift the FA youth cup with the boys?? It’s his last year of eligibility and he said he would love to win it..
J,
Please tell me Lansbury can still play in the FA Youth Cup?
He can when he returns from his loan. But he can’t play for us whilst he’s at Scunthorpe.
Hi JS
You from Scunthorpe then?
I’m amazed that Lansbury is still only 18 – seems like I’ve been reading about him for ever. Does he have a Peter Pan gene?
Love this kid, great potential. I’m guessing this month period is kind of like a trial. If Scunthorpe are happy with him, I’m sure the loan will be extended until the end of the season.
Could be the making of him. Hopefully he’ll impress and find a birth in their starting 11. We all know he’s got the ability, so hes most of the way there already.
