U18's Step Up As Eduardo Completes Reserves Tenure

Eduardo da Silva’s rehabilitation from a fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle stained during the 2-2 draw with Birmingham last February is now complete.

The 25-year-old striker was named on the substitutes bench for today’s goalless draw with Tottenham at White Hart Lane, bringing to an end a four month spell with Neil Banfield’s Reserve team. ‘Dudu’ will also return to the International fold in midweek, when he’s expected to play 45 minutes of Croatia’s friendly with Romania.

During his time with the second string, Eduardo has featured in four matches. First up, he played the closing stages of Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest in a behind closed doors friendly, before pushing on to a start against Portsmouth‘s Reserves at the back end of December.

His first goal’s came against the Gunners Under 18’s as Banfield took on Bould at London Colney. A hat-trick against the Youth’s inspired confidence and kept him ticking over. The last fixture he played in was away to Stoke in the middle of January, where he put in another 90 minute shift and had a goal disallowed.

Tomorrow’s second clash with Spurs in 31 hours sees the 2nd place second string aim to keep the pressure on at the top of the table. Without Eduardo, Jay Simpson, Rui Fonte, Amaury Bischoff, Rhys Murphy and Benik Afobe, Gilles Sunu and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas are expected to lead the line.

Sunu – Young Guns’ Player of the Month for January – already had goals at this level, but has struggled to gain a starting birth up front this campaign. Luke Freeman and Roarie Deacon should provide options from the bench, but both are struggling for goals even for the Academy side.

It promises to be an interesting evening, where we’ll see a glimpse of potential Carling Cup talent for the 2009-2010 season.

Why haven’t we got Amaury Bischoff? Injured or international call-up?

Did Merida get called up by Spain u-21 or u-19’s?

I wouldn’t be surprised if Arshavin played tomorrow. He’s been released from the Russia Training Camp and Wenger will want to give him some playing time to get match fit again. He didn’t get on today so you never know

The stuff about money is a quote from a recent Myles Palmer blog. And we all know how reliable a source he is…

Actually before people talk sh*t about myles palmer, that fact about arsenal and how well they pay young players is true. Its common knowledge aresnal pay like that. Barcelona said, when we took cesc, they were not prepared to match the wages we paid morally.

    not as huge*

They probably do pay them alot like a grand or two but i doubt chelsea, man utd or liverpool, who have a fair amount of foreign talent in their academy and reserve sides dont forget (its only cuz of our lack of english players in the first team that we always get used as an example) and probably pay them just as much. In fact id be as bold to say Chelsea probably pay players like Dos Santos and Mikel back when they first got him about 5 to 10 grand. I doubt fabio and rafa r on less than 5grad at utd either.

I hope Educardo partners Van Persie in Ade’s absence. Dudu looks really sharp in those reserve matches and he was just as fast as before he was injured.

Myles Palmer is wrong to criticise the stance of the club on youngsters to be fair and Arsenal have earned all that money back on selling the youngsters that cannot quite cut it and on sell-on clauses. The club is not stupid. I think if you loom at Manchester United they do the same and liverpool. Man Utd just spent £17m on the two serbian kids and that is investing in the future to avoid lulls occurring between successful teams. Myles Palmer can criticise the stance Arsenal takes, but have a look at Chelsea, where is their next team coming from? Cesc is proof the system works, along with Clichy, Djourou, Song and others. Wilshere will soon fit into that category and will be a successful first team player.

The source, Anonymarse, is actually quotes from Sir Alex Ferguson. I think his information is likely to be correct. It makes sense – how else would our wage bill match United’s?

Merida is in the Spain U19 squad for the game against England U19’s in Bournemouth tomorrow.
Lansbury, Wilshere and Gavin Hoyte are in the England squad.

You’d be nuts to think our wage bill matches United’s. We just pay everything as salary and declare it all. The other clubs hide payments in image rights, signing on fees, loyalty bonuses etc. We have a very rigid pay structure, and only a few highly paid prospects like Wilshere.

Of the 50 highest paid players in the world, 9 were at Chelsea, 7 at United. Only one at Arsenal, and that was Arshavin who’s salary was so recently decided that it was almost certainly estimated incorrectly.

Chelsea have around dozens of kids on £10-15k a week – in the last two months they’ve been desperately dumping them and loaning them since Roman’s cashlines have been drying up.

Liverpool have signed 63 players under Benitez – think of the signing on fees and agents commissions.
