Norwich City have signed 18 year old Arsenal Left Winger Kieran Gibbs on loan till the end of the season.
Arsenal and Norwich are yet to fully confirm the deal, but Skysports understands the deal is done, with the Lambeth born player moving to the Championship club till the end of the season.
Young Guns speculated it would be Armand Traore who would be leaving after the Norwich manager Glenn Roeder confirmed on Sunday he had the option to take one of our young players on loan.
“As far as I’m aware, Arsenal are only going to let one lad out because they’ve got a lot of injuries and are still in plenty of competitions,” said the Canaries boss.
“We might take him and have first option on him anyway”. Said Roeder
Southampton were also keen on Gibbs who signed pro terms in September 2007 and has been a regular for the Reserves this term, mainly plying his trade on the left of midfield but he also featured in the centre against Liverpool in the Youth Cup defeat, and can also play left back as he did against Sheffield United making his first start for the club.
There is no clause in the deal for Norwich to keep him on a permanent basis, and he is apart of the long term future, with Wenger saying recently Gibbs along with Lansbury will be in first team last season.
He was the hero for Arsenal during the Youth Cup run last season, scoring in both legs against Man Utd, but he couldn’t prevent Arsenal from going out, he was also given a start in pre-season in the Emirates Cup match against Inter Milan and was excellent and unlucky not to get on the score sheet against the Italian Champions, after the match Arsene Wenger compared him to Ryan Giggs.
The silky winger who loves to drop his shoulder and come inside is one of the more experience players in the Reserves this season, and will finish wih 3 goals to his name.
We will of course keep you updated with Kieran’s performances this season on Young Guns.
