Arsenal Need To Act As Salamanca Close To Administration

The Slogan Reads “UDSalamanca Asks For Your Help, Do Not Let It Die!”

Arsenal’s Spanish link club U.D Salamanca are in crisis this week with the club close to going in to Administration and disappearing from Spanish football for good.

Supporters this week launched a blog [In Spanish] to raise support for the club who are currently 12th in the Spanish Second division and are £30 million in debt.

David Dein set up the link between Arsenal and the Spanish minnows as Arsene Wenger and Boro Primorac were keen to find a club who play similar football to Arsenal, that they could help develop and in exchange send players who couldn’t get work permits on loan there.

Last season Carlos Vela was sent on loan to The “Union” and won the hearts of the fans with his goals and performances, Arsenal were so happy with the development of Vela they allowed new signing Pedro Silva to go out on loan to them this term, and after making two appearances he could find himself out of a job with the January transfer window shut and work permit issues meaning he cannot play for Arsenal.

On the 25th of January Young Guns interviewed a Salamanca fan and the passion for the club is obvious but after 85 years the chants of Hala Union could come to an end.

So should Arsenal step in and help save the side?, after all Arsenal are one of the richest clubs in the world, or maybe we should sign the two players we had on trial from them last month to help ease the strain.

It would be nice, but I’m pretty sure that any loans or donations made by Arsenal to another professional club would be scrutinised and almost certainly portrayed in a very poor light by the wonderfully objective “journalists”, at such bastions of righteousness such as the BBC or the Daily Mail

Dont forget what nonsense was made by the BBC about the loans to Beveren. However having said that I would be suprised if Arsenal werent at least looking at what help they could provide. Loans would only be an issue if the two clubs played in the same European competition which with all fairness to Salamanca isnt going to happen soon.

I completely agree with Davetxu,as we may well have to sit through 40 minutes of ill researched garbage from the Liverpool loving BBC or worse still have to read pages and pages of equally poorly researched biased garbage from The Manchester Mail if we were to offer one penny in support of this struggling outfit.

it would be legal as salamanca aren’t in any of the same competitions as arsenal; but 30mil in debt? Gotta question how a club that size gets into that kind of financial difficulty

Well, if we’ll know that our money can help them; yes, but £30 millions is hell of a lot money. We can’t save them alone… I think, even if we could afford a club instead of a Sheva. :-)

Why not just buy the club outright and just use it as the Arsenal reserve team, afterall we’d never play in the same competions, plus think of how much good it would have done Theo!

30 million is alot, but a small loan, would keep them going til the end of the season.

and yes buying them outright would be a good idea, not sure how easy it would be though.

I cant see how a club from the spanish second dic is gonna get £30m together. how on earth did they let that happen. this needed closer control a long time ago. Arsenal will only buy their players if they are really good enough, not because of charity.

Hi!, I’m from Salamanca and I know that you think that 30 millions it is a lot of money, but I am sure that it won’t throw it. Here, in Salamanca, there is many interest for the football, and the feeling towards our Union is very big, on the other hand, the club this one very deceived, and has desire of doing big things, just now trying to raise this one to the first division of the Spanish football, but if they do not obtain it … in end that I can say to you, we will disappear

    Hi,

I´m a U.D.Salamanca supporter. I was reading this page and wanted to say thank you. Only that you consider the possibilities to help us is really nice, although I know this will not likely be happening.

The debt of 30 millions comes already since we fell from the first to the second division, we had some long and expensive contracts with players and the incomes in the second division are really low. We were not able to come back to the first division and the situation has only become worse year after year.

Currently we are looking for something like 12-15 millions, that would be enough to survive and prepare a long term proyect.

Greetings from Spain and best wishes for Arsenal.

Hello, I´m also from Salamanca. My english is not so much better so I´m not going to write so much. This message is only to say thank you for your support.
UDSalamanca is a historic club of Spain. We have played 12 years in the first division, and 30 years in second division. We have 85 years os history. We can’t die.

Hi, I’m another “Unionista”. I just want to say that I’m really proud to check that the name of my team can be seen in one of the message boards of one of the most important football clubs all over the world. Of course you are not going to pay our debt, it wouldn’t have any sense, but your help (sending us young players) is quite important for us in order not to spend money to have good players. If we survive, we really need Arsenal to keep on looking for good players who can start their career in Salamanca.

By the way. Please, look after our golden baby, Cesc Fabregas. We need him in Austria and Switzerland
