Arsenal Trialist Joins Portsmouth

Sources close to Skysports claim Portsmouth have beaten a whole host of clubs including Arsenal for Queens Park Rangers keeper Liam O’Brien.

Arsenal’s offer was thought to have been, two year scholarship with two year Professional contract after that but O’Brien has accepted a deal until the end of the season and will sign a three-year professional contract when he turns 17 with Pompey.

Young Guns reported last month Liam has been on trial, and Arsenal.com confirmed he had featured for the Under 18’s against Ipswich, but he has also been training with Aston Villa, Newcastle, Sunderland, Manchester United and of course Portsmouth who it appears have won the race for his signature.

With Vito Mannone expected to go on loan next season, Liam was thought to have been brought in as cover for Wojciech Szczesny, and James Shea.
