How To Use And Abuse The Premier League's Plans

Players Like Nicklas Bendtner Could Profit From The New Idea’s [Picture From Arsenal-Mania]

As we all know yesterday Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Scudamore announced plans to include an ‘International Round’ a new round of 10 competitive fixtures to be played across the world over one weekend in January beginning season 2010/11.

All 20 Premiership clubs have apparently given the go ahead to this including Arsenal who even posted it on the clubs official website.

I am, like alot of people very angry/upset with these plans, for me this is the final nail in the coffin for the traditional English football match as the half time bovril is replaced with an Tall skinny latte.

The Online Gooner have set up a petition, which i fully support, and i urge you all to sign it, you can find that Here.

I am for one surprised Arsene Wenger would accept this proposal, because it was only a couple of days ago he was moaning about International friendlies and now he is backing sending us all around the world in just one weekend? seems unlikely.

But the pathetic wankers people at the Premier League will surly push this idea through so what good could come of it?.

Well why not use these few games like the Carling Cup, lets play the second first team and some of the Reserves + Youth players?

The Positives.

1) We would still win games, we have beaten top sides in the Carling Cup with the youngsters.

2) They would be getting experience of playing in different temperatures and climates for European matches, plus match experience.

3) When the people of New York, Sidney and China, pay the money and turn up, how long will they put up with only seeing the second string ? (no offence to the second string) and after the organisers have payed a reported £1 million pound a match, just to see the Reserves I am sure it would bring this madness to a halt.

So What Do You Think About This Idea? As Well As The International Round In General?

Anybody got the time to run an e-petition on the No10 Website for the government to get involved as this is a direct attack against our culture. TV coverage for FA Cup etc. was protected through similiar lobbying

would be good if a win wasn’t worth 6 points which is a massive incentive to win the match. it could have a huge baring on the title, the UEFA places and relegation. I fail to see how the foreign countries can make it financially viable. I dont suppose they have to. Places like Dubai are happy to lose money over such ventures. tickets wont go to the real foreign fans anyway, just the richest fans.
If I was a player I would want to get the hell out of the PL as soon as possible. its turning into a bloody circus.

What if people stayed away from a couple of league games that might make them think.

Firstly, Arsene hasn’t agreed to anything. A club spokesperson said that they would ‘explore’ the idea, that has nothing to do with Wenger. Second, it’s Sydney not Sidney, at least if your gonna bag a city spell the name right, Third, I agree with you even though Im from Australia, this idea is madness, but playing a second string wouldnt be a good idea if we were in the position of this january, in the title race well and truly, and the points count to the premiership table.

Also whatr gazzap says is 100% true. I drink at an Arsenal pub or wake up at 4:30am to watch every arsenal game, but there isnt anyway I could pay the $400AU one of these games would cost without bankrupting myself for a month. The only people who would get to see these games aren’t real international fans but prawn-sandwich corparate types.

I’d be less against the idea if it was on a friendly basis ie no premier league points to be earned just revenue and new fans/ merchandise sales etc. However imagine Arsenal pip United to the title on the 38th game by 1 point then get drawn to play this 39th game against Chelsea and United draw say Derby, a draw for Arsenal and a win for United would swing the title to United by 1 point. Fair competition I think not! What a farce!

I would love to see Arsenal again….I only been a fan since ’92 and been to Highbury 3x and loved it.I resorted to away matches, but if the Mighty Gunners came across da pond I’ll pay for family and friends even if it’s 6ibbs and Walcott came they are the future .So in short bring them to Florida weather here is sweet in Jan.

Hi, I don’t believe that this has anything to do with the article above, but I’ve been browsing for a while now about this other thing.. When Wenger said there was som talent in the U16’s, he meant a guy with a greek-sounding name and one more I, that I can’t remember. Does anyone know anything about these U16’s?

    Excuse me for going off-topic.

I LOVE the idea. The Arsenal is a worldwide club now, get over it mate! I try to get over to London at least once a season from America to catch a match… why is it so horrendous to think that others can’t do the same once a year… or else stay home for ONE match and watch on telly. OH THE HORROR. Bloody absurd.

MagicHat, you are following me around! I will say it again, all these countries have their own leagues. Help develop them then play against their teams. Otherwise you will destroy them. The Portuguese will follow, so will the French and the Germans.

I love Arsenal and English football. But I will stop loving them if my local football has to play second fiddle to them IN MY OWN COUNTRY.

I find the total knee-jerk over-reaction to this quite baffling.

Gee, one game that wasn’t part of the normal calender now being played somewhere else to cater for the now world-wide fan-base, and now this is a reason to throw everyone’s toys out the pram?

At first pass I don’t think it’s implementable in the first form proposed, but there’s plenty of time to get a solution that would work.

What about it rather being a “Tour Cup” similar to the CC instead of a league fixture?

There are plenty of possibilities, and it is hardly the end of the world, I find some of the histrionics quite absurd to be honest.
