Player Profile – Jonas Rasmussen

Danish midfielder Jonas signed for Arsenal in the summer of 2007.

Arsenal and Lyon had been scouting him but it was the Gunners who moved first and he was offered a trial, and played with the Under 16s in a tournament in Italy along with fellow countrymen Kevin Mensah who currently plays for Viborg FF.

Jonas made an assist against Inter as Arsenal beat the Italian Champions. and against Juventus he scored a penalty. Arsenal were impressed and snapped him up, Mensah returned to Denmark.

Jonas Told Forza.dk

“It’s really exciting to play for such a big club”

His father added:

“We are going to London tomorrow to sort out formalities. We have got a really good impression of life in London”

Following in the foot steps of Nicklas Bendtner, an impressive debut goal for the Under 16s make a perfect start to life in London, and then he pushed on to play for the Under 18s aged 16.

Jonas is in and around the Denmark Under 17s squad despite a previous reputation for being a disruptive influence.

Classy and intelligent Jonas is a holding defensive midfielder, who can play as a right winger, or up front, already well over the 6 foot mark he is imposing and loves to tackle, the the few under 18s matches he has played he looks a real top quality player.

In January 2008 he signed a 2 year scholarship deal with the option of 2 year pro after and was given his own Arsenal.com profile,

The future looks very bright for the young Dane, with Randall and Merida being loaned out, he should feature for the Under 18s and maybe Reserves before the season is over.

Great stuff mate. Looks a great prospect. Quality footballing DMs are hard to find, so hopefully we’ve got something special on our hands.

Its only him and Frimpong in our ranks that can protect a back four I’d imagine so hopefully at least one will make it here.

On this site….http://www.fodboldnyt.com/nyheder.php?id=32029 this is what is said about Mensah, who couldnt make it here….

“Viborg will have a two-year-old contract with it only 15-year on Wednesday written Kevin Mensah, who is picked up in Viborg Søndermarken. That is what the club’s official homepage informs today.

Kevin Mensah is described as one of Denmark’s greatest talents, and Viborg-manager Morten Jensen conceals neither his enthusiasm over having made sure the young gold bird.

    – Nobody is in doubt about Kevin’s qualities. He is an obvious talent, who can drive his football correctly far. He has a giant potential, which hopefully will put our SAS Liga-teams to good in the course of time, the manager says.

Kevin Mensah himself is also very glad for his agreement with the SAS Liga-club.

    – I am both glad and proud over this agreement. It’s a proof that hard work is worth it. At the same time it shows that Viborg appreciates me, just as I am also glad for the frames, I just got permission to evolve in as football player till now, says the talented aggressive-player, who at the same time doesn’t conceal that a contract with a football club obliges.

    – It’s clear that this contract indicates an that there are large expectations of me. That I have it fine with. A bigger pressure will make me to a better football player, and I hope that I can play myself firmly in about the SAS Liga-team within the two years that the contract runs, young Mensahs ends.”

And he didnt make and and Rasumussen did. Make of it what you will…
