Arsenal play-maker Mark Randall feels he had to go out on loan because the Reserves league setup is not strong enough to develop players to a level good enough to make the successful transition to the first team.
Randall (18) joined Championship side Burnley on the final day of the January transfer window, he told Burnley’s Official website
“I definitely wanted to come out on loan because playing too much in the Reserves is not good, especially in the English league because I don’t think the reserve set-up is strong enough for the players.”
Randall has made three appearances for the Clarets all from the bench, he featured yesterday as a sub for veteran striker Andy Cole who bagged a hat-tick, Mark also spoke about how Burnley’s experienced players will help him to develop
“I’m happy to be here. I can pick up plenty of advice from all the players here because I’m young and some of them have got a lot of experience. I can learn loads from them.
“Owen Coyle is trying to help me out as much as I can to improve my career and he wants me to enjoy my time here”
So what do you think? Do you agree with Mark’s point, and would you favour a Spanish style system where clubs play their Reserves in the second division of the country’s Leagues?

I agree, I think the competition in a real team is far more valuable than reserve league football. they only play about twice a month in the reserves, which does not help. as long as he gets some games he will learn a lot there, but I dont think being on the bench is helping him. the trouble is the clubs will always favour their own players (who will all be there next season) over a loan player so its hard for the loanee.
Absolutely. This is where the spanish leagues have the advantage over us. Real Madrid have their B and evem C teams. It exposes their young players to a far more competitive league. So when they are transferred to the Real Madrid first team they have had good experience. By far better than our reserve system
it counts a lot in my opinion that in the league system there is competition for results from the other teams, so in any case the teams will meet highly motivated players. One can see from the FA cup the results and effects of highly motivated players. Are the reserves more careful in terms of avoiding injuries. The dilemma though for me is the other teams. How will it affect their stand and position? Who can compete with all these extreme quality players? Who has to go of the other teams? How will these teams be put into the system?
a lot of clubs are dependent financially and in their development schemes on being in the position they are. And for the development of players such clubs are important as some players develop late. Gilberto Silva is an example of that, who got professional past the age of 21 as far as I know
I have asking whether somebody of you knows the line-up of the Arsenal u-16s team ?
