Afobe On Target For The Under 16's – Arsenal 2-1 Cardiff

Arsenal striker Benik Afobe continued his amazing goalscoring form, by netting the winner as the Under 16’s beat their Cardiff counter-parts 2-1 at London Shenley this morning.

Steve Gatting, included Sam Byles and Oliver Nicholas in his starting line up after playing a part in England winning the Montaigu Tournament last week, Jason Banton partnered Afobe up front, the England school boy has been in excellent form since returning to the club after a brief swansong at North London rivals Tottenham.

It was Banton who got the game’s opener, after clever work from Benik Afobe, the ball was rolled into Sam Byles he got in around the back, and placed the ball on a plate for Banton who had the simplest tasks of rolling it over the line to give the Gunners a 1-0 lead.

Then in the second half Afobe took his season tally to 18, after racing clear, his first time shot was saved, but as the rebound came back to him, he kept composed, and lobbed it above the Cardiff stopper to double Arsenal’s lead.

However there was time for Cardiff to snatch one back, but they held on to gain the win, Gatting’s men are back in action next week as they take on MK Dons Under 16s.

    Brilliant article.

When will Afobe make the step up to the Reserves? He seems to be scoring in almost every game.

Keep up the good work Sanderson ;)

I am chopping at the bit for Benik to get into the first team. I know it sounds ridiculous as he is so young, but hopefully he is our Bojan Krkic

Keep the good work, I always read your articles much informative than most redundant circulated same piece of information which clogs Arsenal news. Your articles are fresh air for real Arsenal fans all over the world. I for one who lives in Northern California enjoy keeping up with the upcoming Arsenals talent for the future.
