Arsenal Football Club, have employed English language professor Peter Murphy to tutor 18 year old Brazilian starlet Pedro Botelho while he plays on-loan with Spanish link club UD Salamanca.
The Gunners, made the move after issues with Carlos Vela, who despite being signed over 2 years ago, can only speak very few words of English and is far from being able to hold down a conversation, something Arsenal wanted to make sure was not the case with the talented left-wing back Pedro, Murphy said:
“They approached me and said they didn’t want a repeat of what happened with Carlos Vela,”
But the tutor also admitted things are going well, with his new star pupil, and Botelho is committed to learning quickly, ahead of his expected arrival in the summer.
“Pedro is already at a level of English which will help him have daily conversations in general life, English is a universal language”
Arsenal agreed a deal for Pedro in June 2007, after a short trial basis, and he was quickly loaned to the Spanish outfit Salamanca, but due to rules regarding Brazilian players not being able to play in Europe until they are 18, he did not feature to December, however since his registration forms have been sorted, he has become a regular, playing at both left back, and left midfield, offering pace, and skills to the attack.
Young Guns has been following his progress all term, you can keep up to date with all reports on his matches, in our loanee’s section.

Is Pedro gonna be in the gunners squad next season?
I would expect so, i mean splashing out on English lessons, would suggest so.
I think this is very very very amateurish behaviour by Arsenal because if you go to all the trouble of buying a kid from abroad like they did with Carlos Vela and you have extreamly high hopes for him as a football player, then you should give him a full time English tutor strait away, and not leave him to learn the language by himself IMO
Imo i think Vela will be a future star, imo i also think this is a fantastic blog, also imo i believe Kent Paul’s comment is spot on imo.
Chris imo, you are a very opinionated person! But imo i agree with your opinion!
